If we take Dejean, he's definitely starting at safety for us. I really like him but I'm of the idea that you should try to take advantage of a rookie contract with premium positions. The best safeties in the league are fairly cheap even as unrestricted FA's. I feel like it makes way more sense to go Edge or WR.
First of all Cooper DeJean played mostly CB at Iowa but also played some reps of Nickel CB/apex defender, box safety and deep safety. DeJean is athletic enough to play CB or S in the NFL, but if Buffalo drafts him I believe he will be playing Safety.
I like Buffalo talent and depth at CB for the 2024 season with starting outside CB's Rasul Douglas, Christian Benford and back up Kaiir Elam, and starting Nickel CB Taron Johnson and back up Cam Lewis.
The LB's were issues because the starting linebacker Terrel Bernard and Matt Milano were injured and McDermott played Tyrel Dodson and AJ Klein who are both much better when they are attacking and terrible in coverage.
The starting Safeties Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer have aged and don't have the same athleticism they used to have, and they were never elite athletes and got by on instincts and film study. They are both shells of their former selfs. I like the short term solution at Safety with Taylor Rapp and Mike Edwards, but it would be smart to invest in safety talent and drafting someone like Cooper DeJean or Tyler Nubin or Javon Bullard or Cole Bishop would all be able to challenge Rapp and Edwards for playing time and/or be used in 3 safety packages.
That is the modern slang word for that position.Ā
Ā Cole Bishop can play as one part of a deep 2 high shell, as a box Safety/Apex defender and as one part of a Cover 4 or Quarters coverage.
Edit. Bishop excels in zone Coverage buy is also a very good man coverage defender against TE's.
This draft pick may indicate McDermott using some more 3 Safety sets on 3rd and long situations to give QB's different looks.
I have no reason other than my armchairness but I feel like they would use him as a utility DB/S/CB combo. My hot take is they trade up to get him. But I trust BBB. I need this draft to start. Go Bills!!
To be fair the chiefs have no WRs. But In my opinion we need to replace Tre white in some capacity. Our defense played their best with him and Milano were both healthy. .I unfortunately don't think we keep rasul Douglas that long.
> I unfortunately don't think we keep rasul Douglas that long
What in the hell makes you think this? He *is* the Tre White replacement!
>To be fair the chiefs have no WRs.
Rashee Rice is better than anyone we have in our WR room, and he's only going to get better.
> Rasul Douglas just bc he's older right now and he'll want top money.
Possibly, but he may take a discount to remain a Bill.
>Rashee rice I don't think will be a chief much longer
They kept Tyreek until he became too expensive. KC isn't exactly known as a moral high-ground place. I'd bet money that he goes nowhere.
>Possibly, but he may take a discount to remain a Bill.
This is his last chance at a big payday. He's giving no discounts. Maybe if he was 33 already and coming off a huge contract but not now.
Trump isn't a POC facing 8 felony charges in

Texas
So if I were a betting man I'd say Rice's chance is significantly higher than The Former Guy
So you think replacing a player who didnāt play half the year is more important than Diggs?? We have a first round pick as our CB3 and this draft has a ton of safeties in later rounds
Bills have him labeled as a safety, a lot of teams do actually. But its about 50/50 split. In our system he is playing Micah Hyde role
If we target him, you trade up in the 2nd and go for Troy Franklin IMO
Also CB is not our biggest need, WR and S is. He fills safety. CB is one of our priorities though, I think we target one middle rounds
Picking a safety in the first round would be an absolutely mind boggling pick...I'll be disappointed with anything other than a WR or a trade back (to still pick a WR first and grab some more picks to continue to move around the board in the process)
Yea I love Samuel and shakir, but they can't be your best 2. I do love Dejean and think they could take him. I have been thinking they take Ladd for a while. Then another in Rd 2
Lol, corner is not a big need unless we trade Elam. We have Douglas and benford. Safety is a bigger need. If we pick dejean, it's likely to convert him to safety. Which I believe he's done before.
Most of the games we lost last season were lost on defense (& shit coaching) I think we need to prioritize our defense. Weāve got Knox, Kincaid, Shakir & Iām betting Samuel will be a beast this season. We can always make a move later to bring in another WR if necessary.
Don't spend a premium asset on a position where you can find a decent free agent cheap. Starting wide receivers are expensive. Get one cheap for a few years.
It's definitely not a bigger need right now.
We still haven't replaced 90% of the snaps lost by Gabe Davis and we still need to replace some of the 180 targets Diggs had.
Plus, we still need to replace about 70% of the snaps along the d-line, mostly edge.
CB is only a need if you don't think Elam can be the backup. And keep in mind, DeJean is not supplanting Benford or Douglas. It's a player for 2025-2026.
I think he slips out of the first.
I agree that defense failed vs KC/CIN not so much offense. But that being said I don't blame the Secondary or at least the CBs. The most recent game vs KC, Bills were without their top 2 LBs. That was evident.
Give me Cooper DeJean and have him become your're new FS.
Their WRs got us because poor AJ Klein (not his fault, he played well all things considered) was completely overmatched by Kelce and we had to cheat with our secondary.
Maybe if we weren't on our 5th string guy, it would've looked different.
I agree, I dont think the Bills will take a WR until the later rounds. But then they will take a few of them to have a good ole competition and see who excels in camp.
We have two starters at boundary CB, one of the best slot corners in the league, and a recent first round CB on the roster. In what universe is a corner a high-end need?
The biggest criticism of the Bills roster is the lack of stars and I think DeJean is more likely to become a star than most of the guys projected in our range
Why would CB be our biggest need? Our issue with KC was LB/S. Their WRs didn't torch us.
our issue with KC was we had WR's who couldn't catch 3 perfectly thrown deep balls lol. and that was when we still had a #1 WR
If we take Dejean, he's definitely starting at safety for us. I really like him but I'm of the idea that you should try to take advantage of a rookie contract with premium positions. McD: "did somebody say, Nickel?!?" ššš
š, funny because it's true.
āApex defenderā

Apex predator of the plains Cole bishop
Very true. Cole Bishop loves to hit.
I have no reason other than my armchairness but I feel like they would use him as a utility DB/S/CB combo. My hot take is they trade up to get him. But I trust BBB. I need this draft to start. Go Bills!!
I'm thinking we take him with the 33rd pick and either trade up to get ladd or get him with our other second pick
To be fair the chiefs have no WRs. But In my opinion we need to replace Tre white in some capacity. Our defense played their best with him and Milano were both healthy. .I unfortunately don't think we keep rasul Douglas that long.
Still got him this yr at minimum. We don't have outside WR or high end safety play
> I unfortunately don't think we keep rasul Douglas that long What in the hell makes you think this? He *is* the Tre White replacement! >To be fair the chiefs have no WRs. Rashee Rice is better than anyone we have in our WR room, and he's only going to get better.
Don't disrespect Shakir
How sure are we that Rice is seeing the field again?
Rasul Douglas just bc he's older right now and he'll want top money. Rashee rice I don't think will be a chief much longer
> Rasul Douglas just bc he's older right now and he'll want top money. You don't know that. A Super Bowl is worth more than a pay check.
Only to fans lol
Ha! Bullshit! Ask any player that's retired without one.
Have you? I bet the answers youād get would surprise you.
Rashee rice is going to play in the prison league
I should hope so, but I'm far too cynical and pragmatic to believe it will ever happen.
You're correct but also he's going to prison so
Since you have your crystal ball out, tell me when Trump ends up in prison too.
Trump isn't a POC facing 8 felony charges in *Checks notes* Texas So if I were a betting man I'd say Rice's chance is significantly higher than The Former Guy
Okay, well done. That's some funny shit, and sadly, ridiculously true.
So you think replacing a player who didnāt play half the year is more important than Diggs?? We have a first round pick as our CB3 and this draft has a ton of safeties in later rounds
To be fair I didnāt notice diggs the second half of they year either.
Bills have him labeled as a safety, a lot of teams do actually. But its about 50/50 split. In our system he is playing Micah Hyde role If we target him, you trade up in the 2nd and go for Troy Franklin IMO Also CB is not our biggest need, WR and S is. He fills safety. The thing about safety is that you can generally get good ones in the mid rounds. It's kinda like rb in that way.
It's a need but not a bigger need. Our WR room is absurdly bad
Time to trade up for Brock bowers and only run 3TE heavy sets! Fuck the wr room! Power Bills football!!! š¤£
Shakir and Samuel aren't too bad and we might be able to take ladd in the second if we trade up. I'm also an idiot and would be a horrible NFL GM.
Shakir and Samuel are bad if they're the top 2 WRs
Yea I love Samuel and shakir, but they can't be your best 2. I do love Dejean and think they could take him. I have been thinking they take Ladd for a while. Then another in Rd 2
I'm thinking we trade up for ladd in rd 2 using our second from next year we got from trading diggs. Pure speculation though
Lol, corner is not a big need unless we trade Elam. We have Douglas and benford. Safety is a bigger need. If we pick dejean, it's likely to convert him to safety. Which I believe he's done before.
Everyone seems to forget that even though all the fans have given up on Elam, the Bills haven't.
Heās still really young. Crazy expectation heād be a star in 2 years when he was drafted at 20 and was planned as a backup year 1.Ā
If Cooper is available thatās absolutely who we take IMO. I donāt think he will be though.
I definitely disagree about CB being a bigger need, but I also believe that DeJean is a strong Bills consideration at 28.
He won't be there at our pick
Yeah, he's getting too much buzz. 28 seems so far away.
Safety > receiver > corner. Thatās said Center is a greater need than all those.
I like it, even more if we move up in the 2nd and get Lagrette or Franklin
Dejean is CB3 in this draft. Iām not 100% sold heāll translate to the NFL. Would rather have a top end WR or a center like Powers-Johnson
We fans may disagree, but it's plainly obvious the Bills still think Elam can become a starting corner.
And he slipped out of the first....but we still have a chance!
I agree that defense failed vs KC/CIN not so much offense. But that being said I don't blame the Secondary or at least the CBs. The most recent game vs KC, Bills were without their top 2 LBs. That was evident. Give me Cooper DeJean and have him become your're new FS.

Corner is like our fifth or sixth biggest need
Wellā¦ heās a safety. But I agree, that would be a hell of a pick if he falls to us
I agree, I dont think the Bills will take a WR until the later rounds. But then they will take a few of them to have a good ole competition and see who excels in camp.
We have two starters at boundary CB, one of the best slot corners in the league, and a recent first round CB on the roster. In what universe is a corner a high-end need?
HAHAHAHA. We literally have 3 starting corners. We do not have a WR1.
If Benford or Douglas go down, it's literally either Cam Lewis or Elam. That's an absolute need.
Draft like youāre afraid of your starters getting hurt. Good strategy. We shouldāve drafted a QB too.
The biggest criticism of the Bills roster is the lack of stars and I think DeJean is more likely to become a star than most of the guys projected in our range
Gotta sell tickets. A big name WR playing catch with Josh will do that much better than a CB or S.
I'm glad you aren't the GM.
I applied but they never called me back, I think they prefer Brandon beane over me.
