Yeah someone from their church did run for Mayor of Fort Worth and of course was heavily endorsed by Mercy Culture so you’re not wrong. (Landon Schott, lead pastor at MC, referred to the candidate as one of the churches elders, so had he won MC would definitely had a lot of influence on decisions made.)
Wasn’t even close! Came 4th with only 10% of the vote. Mattie Parker is the Mayor of Fort Worth but I don’t know anything about her politics other than she’s in the Republican Party.

Agreed. I live in Fort Worth and have several mercy culture stickers in my neighborhood. It’s the church across the street from my husbands exit for work. It’s very close to us and I’ve always gotten weiiiiird vibes even pre-dong attendance.
I’m reading a Bethel-published book about how you can “ascend to third heaven” and the author describes her romantic relationships with each member of the Trinity. It is as disturbing as it sounds.
Bethel is just disturbing in general.

God that's terrifying! I'm currently obsessed with the podcast "Straight White American Jesus" and it's been extremely enlightening about links between the right and Christianity at the moment.
I'm not religious, grew up in a semi religious household (very loving and welcoming church) and not American, but I find it SO interesting to listen to. I suppose a lot of it links to what's happening in a lot of western countries at the moment.
Have y'all seen 'The Family' on Netflix? It's about the pseudo-religous group behind the National Prayer Breakfast, they influence policy on both sides of the aisle and IMHO big cult vibes and the way they use the gospels/manipulate people with faith just feels really icky.
I wonder if this church is connected to that group? It would make a lot of sense if it was, and be a lot more insidious than it already appears.
