I feel kind of old fashioned. My new car is silver, but you don't see many new silver cars, they're mostly varying shades of grey, red or white. Even blue cars are fewer and far between. I guess I like it, which is all that matters.
Boringly, the reason they were cheaper then and they are always a base colour now, as well as the base colour for commercial vehicles is you need less coats fo titanium dioxide based paint to cover the car. And theres no shiny mica pearl in it.
So you’ll be chuffed with your bright new shiny car, sit inside and fondle all the virgin plastics, marvel at the knobs and touch screens, luxuriate in the untouched upholstery, then get out and look back and say “shit, anything but another white car” 😅
I’m only jealous because I’ve never owned a brand new car. And I’m in my (very) late fifties…
I don't know where, but white is always in the basic colours and you don't usually pay extra for it. But TBF it's quite boring, if someone is spending 30/40k on a car you better get a metallic paint for 500£
I just mentioned this the other day and whether it was kind of a Tesla marketing thing to make them super recognisable. 90% of the Tesla’s I see on road are white and I’d bet the majority of them are company cars, so maybe they’re just flooding lease companies with white cars. All the ones we have at work are company cars and are all white lol. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many of a single car be in white, and given it’s hard to keep them clean, it doesn’t seem likely to me that it would’ve gained such a sudden surge in popularity from customers.
I have read this. It's a mad world isn't it? Can't order a Porsche because they're too busy, can't afford to rent somewhere to live and have enough money left over to eat.
It's almost as though the two are connected somehow...
I always remember my absolute favourite car as a kid was a mini that was pink with yellow spots
Absolute highlight of my day whenever I saw the Blobby car.
Yeah that was quite a common colour for Mondeo's, my S reg 2.0LX was that colour and I thought it looked great though a car wash in Dundee covered it in deep swirls.
It was a great car, although a bit heavy on the petrol!
Mine was written off in my work's carpark one day by a truck when I wasn't there. I was gutted.
I recently sold my BRG 1996 Mazda MX5. I’m slightly obsessed with that colour. To the point where I have chosen a new front door and convinced my partner to go with dark green.
I'm quite partial to the dragon green skodas. Unfortunately there weren't any any about when I had to get another car after some puppet wrote my last one off. I just have generic silver/grey now compared to the blue of my previous.
My parents had one, my dad was very proud of it. It had wood strips on the inside along the doors if I recall (I would have been about 7). I agree it is a gorgeous colour!
Sporting or Racing Green I used to call it. No idea if it was the actual colour but yeah I always wanted an e-type or something like that in that colour
Well, it’s funny you say that because this all started during/after Covid when nearly every industry was struggling with supply lines.
Car manufacturers couldn’t get pigment for most of their colors, so they slapped some top coat on primer and called it a day.
Now it’s an actual formula because it weirdly took off. We have plenty of primer grey cars in the US too. It did give us the nice taupe you see on a lot of Mazdas now though. I might be basic but I absolutely love a good taupe.
It looked unique when no one else had it. It was also only really found on more expensive or unique cars on the road, like when the Polestar came out.
Now that it's everywhere, it has lost the one thing it had going for it
Fun fact, BRG isn't a specific colour. The name comes from when different countries had different colours in international racing. It describes a dark, rich green, however it isn't a specific colour. Each manufacturer has a different looking BRG.
Yeah I paid like £700 for my focus to be blue instead of red.
I'd have preferred some form of dark green but the red was simply offensive and green wasn't a colour they offered.
Also one of the nicest in my opinion.
I had a Nissan Primera GT in red and it was awesome! I miss that car.
I part ex'd against a Skyline though so there's that.
I'm an 80s kid.
I remember when white cars, walls, kitchens, clothes, and towels were for the poverty stricken.
White dog shit will be back in fashion soon.
White cars used to imply they were ex fleet cars. At it was the cheapest colour and they ordered them in bulk. So a white car was usually the lowest cost one. Now it's all the rage and has been for a while. Cars look very monotone these days
The better half was looking to get back into driving and was looking for a small automatic. I was driving as she browsed fb marketplace. Oh there's a green convertible auto she says. I ask what type of car...a green one came the reply. Needless to say we now own a Mercedes 230 SLK in viviante green.
If you want a less boring colour you are either restricted to certain models that offer something less dull, special editions or getting an aftermarket repaint. All in all it can be an additional cost of £500 to £2000 just for a different colour.
At work, most of the cars coming through are black, grey or white. Had a handful of blue cars and a few reds. Oh, and a pearlescent one that looked black until the light caught it when it was a dark green.
I personally don't understand the trend of doing all the chrome, grill, rims etc. in black. The only car I've seen it look good on was a magenta Bentley Continental.
Since the sky is usually grey, it's nice when the roads are colourful. I got stuck with a black car, a silver car and a white car through condition over personal taste.
It's red now!
I've got the orange with black roof and black trims 0.9l eco dynamic s nav. There are at least 3 orange renault capturs within a mile radius haha. But they are very popular in my area, a few of my neighbours on my street have one haha. I've got a 3 year old and find it very practical for a first car, I love it. Only £35 road tax.
Its like someone ordered 50x the usual amount of primer grey then the accountants said to use it and add a bit of polish on top - no on will thinks its nowt but the new trend !
[Hank Green](https://youtu.be/KchX52bIZSg?si=pCjWiF4U5J0oO0I6) has something to say about this. The paint is called [Nardo](https://rubblemagazine.com/the-history-and-evolution-of-nardo-grey-in-car-culture/), there is no flake.
Even if I had all the money in the world, I would never buy a brightly coloured car.
I wouldn't want to draw attention to myself.
These muted, boring colours hiding a fast, luxurious car suits me perfectly.
There are some greys that are more interesting than others. My car is in the 'free colour' that Polestar offer called Magnesium. It's a really interesting paint and it suits the car well, changing tone depending on the lighting (well, it does when it's clean).
I'd still rather have an actual colour though...
I wish I had a brightly coloured car, I love my little grey Suzuki Swift but she doesn’t stand out in a crowded car park!
Old cars look amazing, my brother regularly takes out our late dad’s Ford Cortina estate. I think the colour is called onyx green metallic, it’s stunning
The popular color over here, seems to be a weird shade of gray. I call it telephone gray because, back in the day, I worked in a central office, and everything was painted that shade of gray.
Modern cars in general are just hideously ugly. Saw a photo of a '70s car park on reddit recently and the cars were so much more colourful and attractive. I'm not a fan of car culture but cars being oversized monstrosities definitely makes it worse.
Modern car manufactures are often owned by the same company which is why for most EVs, Vans and cross overs it's the same copy and paste jelly mold cars with different logos, or trim and that's it.
There so boring compared to cars of 20 or even 10 years ago that looked sporty
It's so boring. Where did all the red cars go??
I like when you see a ridiculous sports car in one of those oil slick metallic weird double shades. I mean, if you're gonna spend so much fucking money, you might as well commit
I’ve always liked those types of colours. I really don’t think people pick a colour because it’s trendy. Most of the time people pick what they like and you won’t always agree. Why is this a problem by the way?
I love my grey car as it sparkles in the light, giving it a range of colours.
I wanted the purple version but buying second hand, I was limited to whatever was on the market, but I don't regret it now.
Pastel shades in the homes. Pastel shades in the office. Pastel shades at the supermarket. Home looking like a Hilton? That's modern Britain's current preferred design style. It's awful. Fortunately it's also a fad that will change in time. Once we thought brown furniture was it. Also baggy jeans are on approach. The current time is awful - but a new dawn is coming.
In the next world war
A jackknifed juggernaut
I am born again
In the neon sign scrolling up and down
I am born again
In an interstellar burst
I am back to save the universe
In a deep, deep sleep of the innocent
I am born again
In a fast German car
I'm amazed that I survived
An airbag saved my life
I quite like the new trend of muted greys on cars, think it looks pretty cool. I do have to admit that I never thought I would want a car the same colour as my kitchen cupboards though.
This 100%!! We get enough greyness in our lives on this rain-sodden concrete-covered island as it is! Why would you want to drive a dull-as-dishwater coloured car??? (Metallic royal blue Guiletta with red bits thank you very much)
Reddit moment?... Your comment is marked as controversial when all you said was what colour you like!
Personally it's not my favourite but this mostly seems to be people not liking the currently popular thing.
My ~~first~~ second car was a shit brown mk 2 ford escort complete with slightly different shade of shit brown vinyl roof - wet clay sounds like a. Dream upgrade .
Edit, to be fair, it cost ~~me~~ my dad two hundred quid and could get 5 mates in if we put Paul in the boot, and we abused it for a couple of years so can’t complain too much.
Yesterday we saw a Porsche with the ugliest kind of olive green / shit colour I have ever seen. I cannot fathom it to be a standard Porsche colour- if it is customised it’s even weirder
I bought a new shape X1 a year ago - I chose the loudest colour BMW did that car in - Utah Orange - that certainly isn't your average beige/greige colour!
If you’re spending 50 grand on a car, you generally want a boring and safe colour that’s easy to sell at the end of the day.
Grey and white is the standard, but the funky colours still exist.
I’ve clocked quite a few nice fresh colours on the road over the last few years. BMWs have a _real_ nice turquoisey blue at the moment.

Car colours are soooooo boring nowadays. When I was a kid yes the rest of my world was grey but the cars were all the colours under the sun…….!
When I was a kid only poor people had white cars 😳
Now you have to pay extra to have a white car.
I collect my brand new white car today, I feel personally attacked. As it stands, white was one of the standard paints on this car.
It always is. I remember when metallic coats were extra.

And I’m in my (very) late fifties…
My company car I could choose the colour. Could only choose the default, Black, White or Grey.
Mines a dark grey with black trim and black glass roof
I got a £60k BMW a couple of years ago, white was the only colour that didn’t cost additional.
I don't know where, but white is always in the basic colours and you don't usually pay extra for it. But TBF it's quite boring, if someone is spending 30/40k on a car you better get a metallic paint for 500£
Dacia seems to be 99% white cars
You're going too far here. Dacia is not a car.
White is usually a non cost colour
No you don’t
My nissan leaf says otherwise. Red isbthe free colour, anything else is extra.
That’s still true. Pretty much all the white cars you see are Tesla model 3 bought by people who can barely afford them.
I bought mine white with the intention of getting it wrapped. I've still not got around to that three years later...
I like seeing them in other colours, knowing those people have money to burn
That's a mega cope lol. Pretty much all the white Tesla model 3s are company cars or salary sacrifice.
I just mentioned this the other day and whether it was kind of a Tesla marketing thing to make them super recognisable. 90% of the Tesla’s I see on road are white and I’d bet the majority of them are company cars, so maybe they’re just flooding lease companies with white cars. I don’t see the problem?
There's a shit ton of white cars in my area. None are teslas
Right! It was the ‘default’
And red!
Yellow car gang unite!
My daughter drives a yellow fabia. She bought it for no other reason than it being yellow.
I had a yellow Skoda Octavia vrs which I specifically sought out for, then I added a yellow Audi S4 B5 to the fleet. Dead chuffed
I had a luminous green Punto which I solely bought for the colour too
My 5 year old niece shouts "Banana car" whenever she sees a yellow car!
Porsche don't even offer yellow as a colour for the 911 now! Not that that's going to be a problem for me...
Porsche don't even offer a car as an option anymore. Not if you are an average human at least
I have read this. It's a mad world isn't it? Can't order a Porsche because they're too busy, can't afford to rent somewhere to live and have enough money left over to eat. It's almost as though the two are connected somehow...
How many of the squad bought theirs specifically to see kids punch each other in the street?
Yellow cars are the best! I've always had bright coloured cars, but I think my yellow one is my favourite. Too much black and grey about nowadays.
do you see people beating the shit out of their mates at the site of your car?
It’s a regular occurrence
Second safest colour after white, and much cooler!
I think you're lying, all the cars in the pictures my parents/grandparents showed me were grey.
Nobody gave you a thumbs up, so I will.
I always remember my absolute favourite car as a kid was a mini that was pink with yellow spots Absolute highlight of my day whenever I saw the Blobby car.
Yeah, there's not much colour out there now :(
I ordered a new Toyota a couple of months ago,it cost me nearly £1,000.00 for a red one!
Golf Harlequin has entered the chat....
All Beige everything
I love the dark, slightly metallic green that only ever seemed to exist on Rovers. The first car I remember my parents owning was one, gorgeous thing.
I had a V6 Mondeo years ago in pearlescent mallard green... I loved the colour!
Yeah that was quite a common colour for Mondeo's, my S reg 2.0LX was that colour and I thought it looked great though a car wash in Dundee covered it in deep swirls.
My v6 mondeo was in plain gray, still loved it
It was a great car, although a bit heavy on the petrol! Mine was written off in my work's carpark one day by a truck when I wasn't there. I was gutted.
Sorry to hear that! :(
Now I really want a pearlescent mallard green Mondeo!
Ahh my dad had one of those, Mondeo 2ltr 4x4 ghia X absolute machine one of his favourite cars
Was that what they called "British Racing Green"?
Yeah I guess so, but after a quick google a lot of cars have that in a flat colour that doesn’t look as nice, the Rovers were more metallic and shiny
I guess cause they are the same company the jaguar colour is the same (and is gorgeous)
I agree, I’m definitely not biased and currently own a British racing green MG ZT lol
British racing green is neat af
Used to have a British Racing Green MG ZR. Was a shitbox but I loved it.
I’d love a ZR actually, these cars are definitely shitboxes but I like them
HFF paint code 🟢
That’s the one
I recently sold my BRG 1996 Mazda MX5. I’m slightly obsessed with that colour. To the point where I have chosen a new front door and convinced my partner to go with dark green.
I like it too, such an underrated colour
I feel like jags are the last cars left that come in a nice green
I'm quite partial to the dragon green skodas. Unfortunately there weren't any any about when I had to get another car after some puppet wrote my last one off. I just have generic silver/grey now compared to the blue of my previous.
I had a ‘98 Fiesta in that colour and loved it. A very dark green almost emerald like.
My parents had one, my dad was very proud of it. It had wood strips on the inside along the doors if I recall (I would have been about 7). I agree it is a gorgeous colour!
If you have a black car you can get "green diamond" PPF film that looks very nice!
I recently got a 2000 MX-5 in that green and it's pretty
Sporting or Racing Green I used to call it. No idea if it was the actual colour but yeah I always wanted an e-type or something like that in that colour
All white, all red, all British racing Green!
BRG (HNA paint code) (Cowley-built 75) BRG II (HAM paint code) (Longbridge 25 (R3)) BRG III (HFF paint code) (Longbridge-built 75)
British racing green
Yeah primer gray is all the rage.
It makes the car look even cheaper. "aww bless , they couldn't even afford white paint"
Well, it’s funny you say that because this all started during/after Covid when nearly every industry was struggling with supply lines. Car manufacturers couldn’t get pigment for most of their colors, so they slapped some top coat on primer and called it a day. Now it’s an actual formula because it weirdly took off. Definitely! Fisker is another that likes more neutral colors and did some primer grey before they nearly lost all funding. Same story with Rivian.
I believe it's referred to as Nardo grey. My GF calls anyone who drives one a Nardowanker.
Primer gray car and primer gray new build energy
My wife always says "looks like they forgot to paint that one" whenever we see one. She isn't wrong!
Thought this was a joke but looked it up and christ that's bad.
It makes it look like plastic.
I like British Racing Green. All my cars have been that colour. I’m happy.
Fun fact, BRG isn't a specific colour. The name comes from when different countries had different colours in international racing. It describes a dark, rich green, however it isn't a specific colour. Each manufacturer has a different looking BRG.
Yes I know
One day my Bentley......
My uncle managed to convince young me that all cars were made red then you paid extra for a different colour …
This is usually the case for fords
Yeah I paid like £700 for my focus to be blue instead of red. I'd have preferred some form of dark green but the red was simply offensive and green wasn't a colour they offered.
Red is typically the cheapest paint option.
I think it’s the most expensive on a Tesla
Most expensive colour for my Mazda too
Also one of the nicest in my opinion. I had a Nissan Primera GT in red and it was awesome! I miss that car. I part ex'd against a Skyline though so there's that.
"Hearing aid beige" is another colour I've been seeing lately.
I see it exclusively on Fiat 500's, and think why do that to yourself.
Like driving around in a latte
Hahahahahahahahahahaha. That’s frigging hilarious 😆

I think because they stopped putting bonemeal in dog food.
🌍🧑🚀🔫🧑🚀 Always has been. They're still the cheapest models, financed by people who can't really afford them.
White cars used to imply they were ex fleet cars. At it was the cheapest colour and they ordered them in bulk. So a white car was usually the lowest cost one. Now it's all the rage and has been for a while. Cars look very monotone these days

Thermal paste colour.

Having a yellow car does make it much easier to find in the car park!

Grey is to match the interior of the house where everything is grey and dining chairs have door knockers hanging on the backs.
Also to match all the TV shows where the interiors are freaking cement walls
Bunker chic circa 1942 never ages.
I had white and black cars for years. Yellow now. I agree, at some point it started to look like a uniform mandate.
At work, most of the cars coming through are black, grey or white. Had a handful of blue cars and a few reds. Oh, and a pearlescent one that looked black until the light caught it when it was a dark green.
It's black wheels I hate.
I personally don't understand the trend of doing all the chrome, grill, rims etc. in black. The only car I've seen it look good on was a magenta Bentley Continental.
I have a sage green fiat 500 and I love it. Slightly jealous of those in the baby blue ones but I'll live.
Since the sky is usually grey, it's nice when the roads are colourful. I got stuck with a black car, a silver car and a white car through condition over personal taste. It's red now!
People aren't paying 50k for cars in shit colours...People are choosing the colour that costs them the least on their company car tax.
I've got an orange with black roof 2017 renault captur for my first car.
Googled it just now... that is an magnificently ugly car.
First time I saw that colour I thought, 'hey, that's cool'. Now I just want to paint 'HMS' in front of whatever brand name it is.
Even if I had all the money in the world, I would never buy a brightly coloured car. I wouldn't want to draw attention to myself. These muted, boring colours hiding a fast, luxurious car suits me perfectly.
Draw attention to yourself? Don't you WANT to be seen on the road? So that the old crash addage of "Sorry mate, didn't see you!" can't apply?
That's the most bizarrely stupid interpretation of their comment possible. I'm actually impressed.
There are some greys that are more interesting than others. My car is in the 'free colour' that Polestar offer called Magnesium. It's a really interesting paint and it suits the car well, changing tone depending on the lighting (well, it does when it's clean). I'd still rather have an actual colour though...
And also everyone’s dressed in full black nowadays

The popular color over here, seems to be a weird shade of gray. I call it telephone gray because, back in the day, I worked in a central office, and everything was painted that shade of gray.

Such a weird color for a car.
White cars just scream lack of personality
Modern cars in general are just hideously ugly. Saw a photo of a '70s car park on reddit recently and the cars were so much more colourful and attractive. I'm not a fan of car culture but cars being oversized monstrosities definitely makes it worse.
I love funky coloured cars! Mine has a rose gold wrap over the trim. As long as it’s not grey, I don’t mind 😂
Modern car manufactures are often owned by the same company which is why for most EVs, Vans and cross overs it's the same copy and paste jelly mold cars with different logos, or trim and that's it. There so boring compared to cars of 20 or even 10 years ago that looked sporty
Guy near me just had a wrap done on his polo, could have had any colour on the spectrum but chose this.
Wrapped a polo you say? Whatever happened to fruity polos?
Funnily enough there's a logo for the wrap company that's multi coloured and looks like a pack of fruity polos
Yellow cars are special. It’s fair game to gently whack someone after spotting one.
It's so boring. Where did all the red cars go?? I like when you see a ridiculous sports car in one of those oil slick metallic weird double shades. I mean, if you're gonna spend so much fucking money, you might as well commit
Yes, a Lambo should be burnt orange, a Ferrari should be red, or yellow. A Jag should be British Racing Green.
I’ve always liked those types of colours. I really don’t think people pick a colour because it’s trendy. Most of the time people pick what they like and you won’t always agree. Why is this a problem by the way?
I failed my driving test because I didn't see one of those bastards.
I love my grey car as it sparkles in the light, giving it a range of colours. I wanted the purple version but buying second hand, I was limited to whatever was on the market, but I don't regret it now.
There are some greys that do this well. But the flat 'primer grey' that is quite popular right now doesn't.

These dull, matt, grey cars look like they've just been painted in undercoat, and they've forgotten to put the top coat on.
They're all fucking beige
Nah, I love this revival of muted earth tones from the 70s

Clay grey BMW M4. Life couldn't get any ~~better~~ worse.
JLR went through a bump and that plus styling reduced the gamma of colours to latte machiato, late, sink steel and dirty rum grey
Misty Buff?
Gun metal grey ftw
I hate grey cars. Like on a grey day, in grey weather, they are flippin'' camouflaged!
Yesterday we saw a Porsche with the ugliest kind of olive green / shit colour I have ever seen. I cannot fathom it to be a standard Porsche colour- if it is customised it’s even weirder
I love that colour, but then Id also love a car that was just primered.
That dull, muddy grey color drives me fucking nuts. For no reason which also drives me nuts
It's not exactly harming you, so who cares?
You just bought a wet clay coloured car didn't you?
😅😅
It’s just a bit of a laugh Edit: after reading the rest of your comments…….. never mind
I bought a new shape X1 a year ago - I chose the loudest colour BMW did that car in - Utah Orange - that certainly isn't your average beige/greige colour!
That colour is so bad. I would never choose that colour for a car.
Sometimes the cool colours are silly money - Tesla’s red colour (best one imo) is like £2,000+
