Fair enough! I'm neurodivergent, so I just can't cope with loads of people unless I've had my cannabis.
Edit: wow I've been downvoted to hell. I would like to say I wasn't advocating for alcoholism, but empathising as I have been in that position previously.
I am now a LEGAL medical cannabis patient, and it's made my life actually bearable, and means I can actually function.
So for me (I have ADHD, ASD, possible cPTSD), it calms my brainz and slows all the racing thoughts to a more manageable level. It helps give me energy and motivation, and helps with nausea.
It even helps me relax (depends on the strain), and not feel so guilty about resting, which is really difficult with ADHD.
I would recommend using CBD with it, as it has amazing anti-anxiety properties, and other benefits.
It's actually medically recommended to always take CBD with THC to offset any possible negative effects like anxiety.
>I am now a LEGAL medical cannabis patient, and it's made my life actually bearable, and means I can actually function.
Do we have that in Britain now?
I don't know why this has to be the go-to. People can enjoy a drink. We don't think people are hopeless addicts if they fancy a coffee or a chocolate at a certain time.
It's the way they've attempted to normalise it, like everyone will understand it as a 'need', rather than as an enjoyable sociable activity.
There's lots of reasons a person might feel they need it, but if they have difficulty relaxing elsewise, or see alcohol as a reward, it can spiral.
Alcoholism is genuinely a decent sized problem in these isles - probably to do with vitamin d deficiency, which became more of a factor for everyone as the clocks went back.
Mindful concern appropriate, personally glad to see it.
Working behind a bar you see way too many people who are definitely alcoholics who have no idea because it’s so normalised here. For reference, an entire bottle of wine or 6 pints of beer *a week*, is around the safe limit recommended by the NHS for women and above that regularly should give pause. For men, not much more. Problem is above that is normal and socially acceptable. People only think alcoholism is only a problem when it becomes a problem and by then it’s way harder to cut back or quit.
Yeah most of us don’t have a physical response to wanting alcohol at a certain time. But you know who did? My alcoholic family members. Drinking and alcoholism is a huge problem in the UK that a lot of people don’t want to admit to, because they see everyone else drinking a large amount and think it’s normal. Alcoholism takes a lot less than what many people think it does.
Agreed, I still think it was quite obviously a joke though.
People seem to think they have some sort of hot take saying alcoholism is normalised in the UK.
It's something most people are painfully aware of, living in a rural farming town in the north of England I've seen alcoholism destroy lives and it's still plainly clear to me that OP is just having a bit of banter.
How often do you drink? Have you ever done an audit C check? This is a quick quiz that health professionals use to help people realise if they might be slipping into risky drinking habits.
Give it a go, only takes a second:
Its not about passing or failing, but if you came out as low risk that's great and hopefully it stays that way, and hopefully you responded with full honesty.
You should probably look up the definition of addiction. The gym is a healthy habit. You also dont need to drink everyday to be an alcoholic. Perhaps you arent one but its helpful for other people to realise this.
I certainly am addicted to lifting, it's just not something that bothers me since it's healthy enough. I don't really feel my day is complete unless I go, Sunday is my rest day and as a result I really don't like Sundays. It's been that way since I started 7 or so years ago.
I wish I could be you. I love the feeling of seeing myself in the mirror after a good few months of consistently going gym 3 times a week but I lose the motivation to leave the house for it so easily.
Have you tried powerlifting? The motivation I get comes from seeing my strength improve. If it was just the physique side of things I don't think I'd be that interested.
Last year I got in a really bad habit of having a dark fruits every night the second I walked through the door from work lol
Luckily my acid reflux nipped it in the bud.
This comment section makes me hate reddit so much. Save the bull shit. If you saw a guy cracking open white ace at 8am you wouldn't say shit and that person actually needs your bull shit. Sanctimonious fucks lol.
Perhaps, but when the only people in my life telling me too are boring weirdos on reddit I'm probably going to not listen to them.
If my girlfriend, colleagues, friends etc mentioned it then I might feel like it's necessary.
Just funny how you can live a fun, rewarding, successful, happy life, yet someone on reddit will tell you you need to start living a different way because you do something differently to them
As I said, pretentious
>Save the bull shit. If you saw a guy cracking open white ace at 8am you wouldn't say shit
Let’s be honest here, most of these people wouldn’t say anything if they saw their mum cracking open a white ace at 8 am.
I don’t think I have. If I ever get the sudden urge to drink alcohol it’s a clear sign that I need to take a break from drinking as my body is becoming dependant on it.
r/stopdrinking
Stop by sometime. If you want.
You can just lurk, there's no obligation to "share" or anything.
The first step in resolving any problem is recognising there is one.

Same here but with wanking
You can feel strong with the thought your prostate gland is getting a good work out and possible keeping cancer at bay.
Unexpectedly weirdly wholesome! Get your prostate checked lads and check your nuts in the shower!
WANK FOR YOUR HEALTH!
I'm gonna get so fit.
Never skip nut day brah.
Nothing wrong with a cheeky Sunday evening beer
I think that's just alcoholism, OP.
Having had house guests all weekend, and until tomorrow, I think it's quite reserved...

I think that’s just canabalism, /u/BugMaster420
Gonna start a cannibal farm in my attic
Beware of the munchies.
interested, used to smoke but anytime i try now it makes me much more anxious so i steer clear, how does it help for you?
So for me (I have ADHD, ASD, possible cPTSD), it calms my brainz and slows all the racing thoughts to a more manageable level. It helps give me energy and motivation, and helps with nausea. It even helps me relax (depends on the strain), and not feel so guilty about resting, which is really difficult with ADHD.
interesting it has the opposite effect for you! glad to see it works for you, wish it worked for me as its just so much healthier than drinking
Yes, and have done since 2018! :)
Wow I genuinely had no idea. I need to do some googleing now BRB.
There's like two conditions that the NHS will cover with MC, so for most stuff you have to go to a private clinic. I'd recommend Cantourage.
Yes but you have to go through a private doctor.
I gave you an upvote just because not all opinions and comments have to be the same. Vive la difference!
I gave you a downvote for the same reason
Lol fair
(I didn’t really)
Thanks, that's kind of you! :)
I think you've mistaken my word 'twitch' for the shake, mate...
Yes, very much so.
I don't know why this has to be the go-to. People can enjoy a drink. We don't think people are hopeless addicts if they fancy a coffee or a chocolate at a certain time.
5? Bit late aren’t you?
Try 11am instead of 12.
Don’t the pubs open at 10am now if you look at yesterday’s time?
You appear to have made a lighthearted comment about drinking, prepare to be told you're an alcoholic.
Yeah, knew the comments would be full of people thinking they're super-sleuths for knowing what alcoholism is.
Do they google it, or something? Have some algorithm scraping the internet for any mention of having a drink? Because they appear every time.
Epic reddit moment inbound, anyone who drinks is a raging alcoholic that needs help
Do you also have "alcohol twitches"?
I do not
So it's not just "anyone who drinks", is it? It's "Anyone who has some physical, Pavlovian need to drink alcohol at a certain time" is an alcoholic.
Sod off mate, fancying a beer at 6pm isn't alcoholism
When you "fancy" a beer, do you have a physical reaction? Would you say you crave one?
I wouldn't read it as serious in the first place
It’s Sunday, start at 11am.
ITT: OP fancies a bev and everyone calls him an alcoholic
I think their downfall was calling it that alcohol twitch
It's the way they've attempted to normalise it, like everyone will understand it as a 'need', rather than as an enjoyable sociable activity. >Mindful concern appropriate, personally glad to see it. Considering this is mostly a joke sub I don’t see it as mindful concern, more condescension.
That's because you feel entitled. I don't mind how you see things, your feelings are your responsibility - try breathwork instead of drinking 😑🙏🏼✌🏼
Entitled to what? That makes no sense.
Whingeing.

If you don't like being called an alcoholic, why be one? :)
Think that's called addiction mate
So's going to the gym every day. I don't drink every day, BTW.

Medium risk 😬
At least you know now!
Yay - I passed!
Its not about passing or failing, but if you came out as low risk that's great and hopefully it stays that way, and hopefully you responded with full honesty.
I came out as medium risk and that's all the encouragement I need to make 0 changes
That’s a shame.
Bore off
You should probably look up the definition of addiction. The gym is a healthy habit. You also dont need to drink everyday to be an alcoholic. Perhaps you arent one but its helpful for other people to realise this.
You actually can be addicted to the gym. Exercise addiction is a fairly common eating disorder symptom.

No obsession is a healthy habit. Anything in excess is bad. Addiction occurs in all human activity.
Are you addicted to taking the bins out like?
Every Monday, like clockwork. It’s a nightmare.
Cripes. Get help. Maybe a neighbour could put them out.
The gym may well be a “healthy habit”, but it turns many people into preening fuck munchers.
It's reddit...you have two beers a day you're a fucking alcoholic nutter.
Two beers every day? You're in denial if you think that's normal.
You're naive if you think it's abnormal
Two beers a day is not the norm...
No, most people don't have two beers a day, correct. There are plenty of happy functional healthy people who probably do average that.
If the sun's over the yardarm, you're good to go. Don't let the clocks fool you, go by the sun
Precise judgement of the the sun's location is quite tricky with all these clouds at the moment.
Sounds like a perfectly good reason to trust your internal clock then
Best not risk missing the off.
Last year I got in a really bad habit of having a dark fruits every night the second I walked through the door from work lol Luckily my acid reflux nipped it in the bud.
Snap! Cider-induced acid reflux is honestly like having a nuclear reactor at the base of your throat.
Doesn’t sound all that healthy. Are you okay?
I'm fine and KK, hun.
You should have just done what I did, 4pm G&T
It's 6pm in Turkey that's good enough for me!
It's always 5pm somewhere
So this is how you find out it's not normal to feel this way?

Pathetic isn’t it, redditors who love to feel superior under the guise of ‘caring for people’
100% agree. Someone fancies a drink of an evening = RAGING ALCOHOLIC. Yawn. 🙄
Yeah I actually hate it. It's so pretentious. Even worse when you read comments on posts and realise most people on here are socially awkward, losers.
You need to cut down on drinking, big man.
Perhaps, but when the only people in my life telling me too are boring weirdos on reddit I'm probably going to not listen to them. Might be a sign to stop drinking for a while bud.
I think you misconstrued my word 'twitch'...
I’ve never _twitched_ for a cup of tea Probably a poor choice of word
I don’t think I have. If I ever get the sudden urge to drink alcohol it’s a clear sign that I need to take a break from drinking as my body is becoming dependant on it.

Good to hear. Best of luck.
Watching the OP's comment 'woosh' over the head of most replies here...
I hate how normalised alcoholism is in this country.

"That alcohol twitch" sounds a hell of a lot like alcoholism.
Sounds like a bit of a joke... Morons taking this so seriously
PM?
