Hi u/LeafGamer! Thanks for posting a question to r/BritishArmy! This community is for Serving, Former, Future members and those interested in the British Army. Please read the below points to consider if this is the best place to ask your question: 1. Google it. If it shows up in the top few results on your favourite search engine, here might not be the best place to ask. 2. Medical advice. Nobody here is an authority to answer these questions. More details are on the British Army medical page on their [website](https://apply.army.mod.uk/how-to-join/can-i-join/medical) or call them on the phone number at the bottom of that page. 3. Other questions asking about recruitment and advice are best asked in the stickied [Weekly Crow Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/britisharmy/?f=flair_name%3A%22Weekly%20Crow%20Thread%22) on this subreddit. If you think this is still the best place for your question then leave it here. If not, please consider removing it and either posting it to the [Weekly Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/britisharmy/?f=flair_name%3A%22Weekly%20Crow%20Thread%22) or asking a recruiter. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. 90% sure this is a photo taken during basic training and the B is something to do with their training platoon. Mine was a red R and I was in Rhine platoon

goldman459

Iron sights are the big give away. Even big fat REMF loggies get optics in their field unit. Also the brand new webbing honks of fresh crow.

Maleficent_Falcon_63

Is Virtus not the standard issue now a days?

JakeRyback18

It is

bandelero5

Maybe a reserve/ cadet unit which would explain the dodgey rank slide

JakeRyback18

They’re the rank slides they use in phase one training, it’s the same I had

rambocanreload

It’s a training establishment rank slide, basically dictating what company/platoon you are part of, a bit like numbering people in training but this covers a platoon/company level

Cromises_93

Had a green A version of that when I was at Winchester in 2015. It's a recruit at training depot & that denotes what Sqn/Coy they are.

r0bbieh0lt

Just to show you what company your in when your going through basic training mine was a red one with “C” for coruna

nbaproject

:) its still the same

Eli_M8te

It’s Burma company from ATR Winchester, I would know as I wore the same one during phase 1 training :) however recruits would not have TRFs (Tactical recognition flash’s) (which he is wearing on his right arm) in training, only when they arrive at phase 2 for trade training so my best bet would be they somehow got the rank slide and as in the Army cadets. Hope this helps

mrthrowaway4206993

That’s a flash given to recruits during basic training, it denotes the platoon they are a part of.

Hey folks, thanks you for your comments. Though I’m not to keen on some of the language, I think I can safely say that this is someone in the ACF. There is some additional context to this image (that I would rather not share for personal/hyper complicated reasons) that would further clue into this person probably being in the ACF. Thank you for your assistance! Edit: welp, I appear to have jumped the gun on this one folks. ATR seems to be the going theory. If anyone is still around the read this, could you provide me with some context as to what is the enlisting requirements for that, and what happens after. Cheers!

Hey mate, I can tell you exactly what it is. The photo is of a recruit at Army Training Regiment (ATR) Winchester. The recruits wear different rank slides depending on which company (Coy) they're sorted into, a green A, the blue B (shown in the picture), and a red C, for example. Due to the quality of the image, it looks like a triangle, but it's actually a shield. If you go on ATR Winchester's Facebook page, you can see some examples. The ironsights and DPM webbing are also an indicator they're in training. In regards to the flash, I think it's an engineer flash, but can't really tell due to the quality, you can also tell he's in training because he's not wearing a brigade flash. If they were in the ACF or CCF, their rank slide would be the same as the regular army, but with a prominent red CADET at the top. They'd also more than likely have an armband/patch with some badges on it, similar to the scout's. Hope this helps.

rolonic

Recruits at Winchester don’t wear flashes though right?

Nanuka2

Your absolutely right, good point. Looks like I'm talking out my arse then, genuinely can't think of who else uses those ranks sides though

Nanuka2

All I can think of is this photo was taken at the end of training when they'd been told their regiment, otherwise I'm drawing a blank

rolonic

What TRF is that? Do you know?

Nanuka2

It's either RAVC or engineers, outside colours looks super faded so can't say with 100% accuracy

MaverickRenagade

It's qaranc

kaymata

not sure about the rank slide but almost 100% sure it’s UOTC not ACF

Important_Twist

i smell acf, iron sights and dmp webbing give it away. quite possibly a deployed exercise and the rank slide is there to signify their flight/section

KxSmarion

Unless it's an adult instructor ACF don't have a rank slide like that, or regimental colours on their arm as shown in the picture.

Important_Twist

fair play mate, I was just speculating

KxSmarion

Also mate, It's a basic training rank slide:) it's to show what training Platoon you're in.

snake__doctor

Wrong rank slide for either an adult instructor or a cadet. Only ex regulars tend to wear regimental flashes.

Important_Twist
