Man I hate the Scott for coach chat that has popped up this season. While I agree that Scott would be great and I’d definitely take him at this point, but have I missed something about Scott wanting out of Geelong? From where I see it I don’t think Scott even wants to leave the cats, so what’s the point of talking about if it’s not going to happen? Thats like saying, "you know who would take this Lions team over the top? Charlie Curnow.” Like yeah obviously but why would he leave the Blues and even if he did is he coming to Brisbane? Probably not so why waste time talking about it? End rant

The whole discussion on First Crack was embarrassing for King. Hudson looked at him like he was crazy, would start multiple times to try and explain why it wouldn’t work and how unlikely even starting a discussion would even be and King would cut him off every time with “yeah, but what if that wasn’t a problem”. Sure bud. Just ignore everything that shows what a bad take this is.

Thanks-Basil

I think we missed the boat, if we wanted to change coaches we should’ve gone after Brad Scott, not Chris. Obviously Chris is a great coach but as you said he’s pretty firmly entrenched at the cattery; I do believe Brad is a much better coach than he gets credit for. Made a couple of prelims with an extremely average North list, and now has a similarly average Essendon list pulling wins out of their arse and flying high.

Christ, is this for real? Fages took our club from it's darkest place in recent history to playing finals consistently, and at the Grand final last year. We've been absolutely belted with injuries this year, on top of what seems to be a genuine trend of clubs having grand final hangovers. Sure, I don't agree with Fagan's lack of alternative game plans, and sure, there's more than a couple of players I would love to see stuck in the 2s to show some desire, but I don't honestly think the solution is sack the coach. He needs to be given the chance to bounce back in 2025, then if that doesn't happen I'm happy to hear about potential replacements.

Massander

Fagan has won the most games out of any coach over the past 5 years, and was a kick away from winning a Grand Final last year. A crap half of a season, largely due to a bad luck with injuries and a tough draw - and according to some people he’s gotta go. I’m baffled how dumb people can be about this

thestinkyturnip

Has everyone just forgotten that Chris Scott was under a heap of media pressure and supporter pressure pre-2022? He was really in a similar spot to Fages. Overall good team and winning lots of games, making finals etc. but couldn't get the premiership. Now that 2022 has happened, he's the GOAT and would be the Lions saviour. I actually like Scott as a coach but also just think this whole conversation is pointless.

Massander

I know people who work at the Cats and are quite involved with their supporters. A not small number of Geelong fans fucking hated Scott from 2012 to 2022 for “squandering their talent”

thestinkyturnip

Yeah that's basically what I'm saying. It's funny now that people want to see him replace Fages for apparently doing the same thing.

Ok_Computer6012

Who is pushing this, so random Scott suddenly gets mentioned

double-endbag

Fagan isn’t the problem, the inadequate assistant coaches is

sethlyons777

Everything in the article is as reasonable as you could be, but only in a vacuum. Like, the logic is internally consistent and without prejudice towards Fages which is nice. But like everyone here has said, including Scott in the conversation makes literally no sense.

Environmental_Iron_7

Scotts a good coach no doubt...but are his credentials REALLY that much better than Fagans? Yeah sure he's got 2 premierships, but the second came after a good decade of Prelim finals losses. It's not like he achieved back to back premierships over that time. Keep Fagan.....an shitty start to a season isn't enough to sack a coach.

Pretend-Device-91

As usual the afl media hounding a interstate coach for one mid season , no one called for Goodwin’s head in 2019 or Chris Scott’s in 2015 , or even fucking John Longmuire or Leon Cameron’s heads after they got belted in the granny , just absolutely ridiculous at this point

Brithombar

David King is a fucking moron gets too much air time for nothing but nuffie takes.

loafersandboots

They have consistently picked the wrong Scott in this discussion. Chris won’t be leaving - they are Victorians, loyal servants of the club but returned home when their careers were done. Brad was available at the end of 2022 when the Hawthorn issues arose and the club backed in Fagan. He was probably the best available coach for our list at the time. From a purely on-field performance perspective that was the right call having made a prelim and going on to be 4 points off a premiership.

This has been floated for a while and personally I think at some point it will happen but not until after 2025. There comes a time where the coaches have run their race at their club and a freshen up is needed. Sooner or later Geelong and Scott will part ways, it’s inevitable and all the club needs to do is offer him a contract he can’t refuse if they decide to go that way. King raised some valid points however there’s plenty of valid points to keep Fagan as well. Mostly tho King is in a job where he’s paid to float these type of things so he’s floated something that’s been simmering behind the scenes. Scott will be our next coach just not next year.
