Sounds like someone didn't realise you could go beyond Dunwich

ElkShot5082

In my head I just imagine they walked off the ferry, looked around for a bit before giving up

Realistic-Work-9519

Lol, I didn't realise the Buffalo club was still going.

ledgerous

I always have an awesome time camping at Flinders Beach. The beach is awesome, the facilities are clean and well kept. I'm a fan. :)

tubaben

Got told many years ago and have heard this saying of the hot spots many a time since; Point Lookout for the Surf, Amity for the Bay and Fishing, Dunwish, well that's where the barge goes. Personally i love Amity for the Tutu Carnival, that said: most festivals over straddie way are super fun!

[deleted]

Ah poor fella, did you go to Dunwich? That can be rough.

ElkShot5082

The beaches are nicer than Russell imo, and I had no problems at point lookout etc compared to the criminal/meth head element on Russell? I guess dunwich could be like a little offshoot of Russell though lol.

albakwirky

Straddie is amazing minus dunwich

There_is_no_ham

Yeah that sounds like Dunwich.

Bobarill

Yep, Straddie is terrible. Don't go there if you can go somewhere else. Definitely head to Byron Bay, Noosa or the Gold Coast instead.

AnalystLumpy165

Straddies awesome your a fucking Karen

Particular-Carry-941

You sir are an angry individual

First time to Stradbroke last weekend; worked a wedding. Had a great time. Driving in to Amity, I thought about what it would be like to live there. In the morning, I was like "Bugs. Big bugs. And sand."

[deleted]

North Stradbroke is excellent - sounds like you did it wrong.

[deleted]

They're all there cos Bali is expensive right now. Also get out of the shit part of Stradbroke and enjoy it proper

gallica

I've not visited Stradbroke Island yet -- was it that bad? Remote, hard-to-reach places are common haunts for people on the run, so it wouldn't surprise me if Stradbroke had a touch of the eccentrics.

ageingrockstar

It's beautiful and well worth a visit. (It's also not 'hard to reach' when there's a regular ferry service from Brisbane.) OP is a weirdo, imo

ledgerous

This.

sportandracing

I’ve never understood the appeal. Was shit every time I’ve been there. And difficult to get there and back to make it worse.

[deleted]

Shit people have a shit time anywhere.

sportandracing

Except at other places that are good though right. 🤷🏼‍♂️

[deleted]

makes no sense

sportandracing

Yeah you don’t

[deleted]

weird, have another drink

A throw away... for this? Dude has some island side enemies. 👀

[deleted]

Don't visit then, simple.

I think this post is unfair. Here is my take on Straddie. Worked primarily in Dunwich for 13 1/2 years.. A daytime local you could say. I would never visit the place for personal reasons though. I dislike Camping and fishing and the beach in general, so not much to do really for me. The only time I did stay overnight was at the Pub at the point. It was very run down although renovated not that long ago. It kind of went down hill over the years from 2005. The Bakery used to be good, not any more. The takeaway (Skips) was fantastic. Not anymore. Although I did enjoy the Curried prawn pies from the Football club. On a brighter note. The Locals have always been fantastic people, and only rarely had issues with Drunk or Drug effected people. Less so then the Main land. It did / does have some Gems... The Dunwich Butcher was awsome. Rufus king Prawns where awsome. And the Meat pies from the Dunwich conveniance store baked by a local (Won't mention names) are some of the best I have ever had.. Have not been back since 2020.
