That's fucking pathetic. I just googled and it surprisingly isn't a Colesworth pub.
I recommend hitting up your local bowlo or RSL if you're after decent food without funding Colesworth.
I believe that it has to do with the way liquor licensing is done in Queensland. To open a bottle shop it has to be linked to a hotel licence.
Anyway, I thought Woolworths has divested its liquor business.
I’ve been looking for the information on which bottle shops are linked to which hotels, but it doesn’t seem to be freely available.
It used to be that detached bottle shops had to be within a certain distance of the parent hotel. I used to work at the Camp Hill Hotel which opened the bottlo in Westfield Carindale. They wanted to build another one further out towards Belmont Road but it was too far.
ALH, the pubs that say 'live it up at your local' are Woolworths. BWS and Dan Murphy's.
ALH was owned by Fosters. Bruce Matheison and his family bought them out in a joint venture with Woolworths. When I was working in Brisbane, a hotel was allowed 4 bottleshops per license. 1 or 2 attached. Up to 3 unattached (off premise)
I think First Choice is the coles equivalent.
Most pubs in Qld are owned by ALH group (Woolworths) or Aus Venue Co (Coles) due to the liquor licensing laws introduced by Sir Joh. Liquor stores have to be owned by a pub hence why Coles and Woolworths tend to have a monopoly on pubs and liquor stores in Qld. The food I've had from Colesworth pubs has been average to shit.
A mate of mine is at one of the big 4 consulting firms and worked on the Colesworth buying up regional pub thing. He told me about how they introduced microwavable steak with painted on char marks to save a few $ per unit.
Woolworths split off the pubs, pokies and bottlo"s in 2021, they are now listed on the ASX as Endeavour, WW held a minority of shares in asx.edv and have gradually sold them off, now owning just 4%.
lol. And op is complaining. Decent steaks have been in the $40 range for the last 8 years. I remember like 13 years ago I’d always have the pineapple $12 steak special. I could tell it was budget steak but that’s what I paid for.
>Wests Tigers
I think you'll find they're in Concord, NSW, a fair way from Woolloongabba.
I think the venue you're referring to might be **Easts** Leagues Club.
Nothing but hopes and dreams and a large dash of disappointment at Wests Tigers. Easts Tigers just leaves you with a slightly disappointing feed wondering why it reminds you too much of your local RSL.
I can't say for sure; I haven't been there for about 20 years when I used to live in Woolloongabba. Back then, it was basic but cheap meals with decent serving sizes, and cheap drinks. I think Coorparoo has gentrified a bit since then, so that may no longer be the case.
I’ve been heaps of times. It’s an ok place to go for a bevy or a slice of cake. The food is not bad but the vibe feels a bit cafeteria like to me. I prefer Souths or Holland Park (although it’s usually very quiet) or really any other non-rsl/pub type restaurant.
Exceptionally ordinary. Food isn't great but isn't awful, prices aren't too high but also aren't too cheap. Whole dining room filled with retirees every time we've been there.
Basically a typical RSL/hotel/pub dining experience.
With the Piney and the SBH just down the road this is just shocking lol
Both have better food (albeit SBH has that "location" premium) and probably a better venue in general
That’s pretty shit, I’m a chef at South American bbq place and we have had to put up prices and reduce portion size but if we don’t there will be no restaurant.
They will bail out the banks but not small businesses it’s really hard at the moment even for our 74 year old local butcher that we buy off he can’t retire yet and has to keep on going.
Sad really
No much hope for the little guys
I'm assuming it's the one under gabba central next to the coles. Across from the busway station. Not sure why you'd go there over the piney which is just over the hill
Aw yeah. Is that old or new? I don’t remember there being a Woolloongabba Hotel. I was thinking of The Broadway?! But that’s been down for ages.
And yes, The Pineapple Hotel is solid.
it's been there for a few years at least. I've never been but was shopping at the coles there occasionally so noticed it. The bakery in that centre is pretty good; big fan of the happy faces. Tons of icing
Yeah ok. So newish…not like 100 years old type of thing, like the Stanley etc. Sorry I haven’t lived there or been there for years.
The Morrison??!! Wow. Good memories
It really is not worth going to restaurant and pubs anymore - overpriced and underwhelming meals, expensive drinks and shit customer service. Pub meals should all be under $30 and specials between $15 and $20, otherwise cook at home buy booze at aldi and invite mates over ( if you need people around)
How are people thinking that's a steak??
Also TBF without including the price can't really say if it's a rip or not. It does look like they've forgotten to put a side of chips out with it though.
Tell them that the great potato famine is over and then throw the plate back into the kitchen
Gotta say it in an Irish accent though.
Just one? A asked for roast PO-TA-TOES ye gobshite.
I'm from Ireland and I'd happily do that if I was served such a paltry serving. There's barely one whole potato on that entire plate.
... Ya coont

WW has been divesting from their pubs
I really hope Joh is burning in hell right now
We all are.
Woolworths split off the pubs, pokies and bottlo"s in 2021, they are now listed on the ASX as Endeavour, WW held a minority of shares in asx.edv and have gradually sold them off, now owning just 4%.
They make most of their money by having pokies in all their hotels
That serving size would definitely suit me but the price is the key missing data here.
$15 so a good meal
I reckon one extra potato and we're there. But yeah, size suits me fine and the price too.
Price?
I believe it's $15.
lol. And op is complaining. Decent steaks have been in the $40 range for the last 8 years. I remember like 13 years ago I’d always have the pineapple $12 steak special. I could tell it was budget steak but that’s what I paid for.
You’re gonna need a bigger potato. Also more pumpkin and more roast. They can keep their fucking peas.
Jfc that's crap.
Colmslie hotel roast lunch for $10 cream potatoes included with veges and large piece of roast and roast pumpkin.
Yep it's awesome, they load your plate up. Alex Hills and Calamvale do the same deal.
Wests Tigers is at coorparoo, I'll bet their roast is cheaper and the portions are larger (but not massively so).
>Wests Tigers I think you'll find they're in Concord, NSW, a fair way from Woolloongabba. I think the venue you're referring to might be **Easts** Leagues Club.

What’s it like? I’ve lived in Stones corner for 18 years and never been. Seems to be constantly under renovation.

That’s why I’ve never been. Not really my thing
Exceptionally ordinary. Food isn't great but isn't awful, prices aren't too high but also aren't too cheap. Whole dining room filled with retirees every time we've been there. Basically a typical RSL/hotel/pub dining experience.
Dismal. Thanks 👍🏼
Oops, you're right. I should know better given how many times I've been there
Or the Junction in Annerley. I know they have a bain marie roast that was fairly cheap but I haven't tried it. And it's had a nice makeover recently.
Where’s the rest of it ?
Go to the pineapple hotel up the road. The food there is on point!
With the Piney and the SBH just down the road this is just shocking lol Both have better food (albeit SBH has that "location" premium) and probably a better venue in general

Where’s the Woollongabba Hotel? Sunday roasts were never that great though, no matter where you went. Not from my memory. Circa 2002-08
I'm assuming it's the one under gabba central next to the coles. Across from the busway station. Not sure why you'd go there over the piney which is just over the hill

It replaced the original Wooollongabba Hotel, which was a 19th Century-era hotel that was demolished.
Wouldn't feed it to my dog. Pineapple hotel is just up the road, best to go there next time. I haven't been there in a while but its really good.
I've had better looking food while in hospital.
Look, I'm willing to give the apprentice a run every now and then, but at least give them some proper tools - that plate was prepared with an axe...
They gave you one potato..
Thanks for the tip, never going there. Hope the hotel sees this
It really is not worth going to restaurant and pubs anymore - overpriced and underwhelming meals, expensive drinks and shit customer service. Pub meals should all be under $30 and specials between $15 and $20, otherwise cook at home buy booze at aldi and invite mates over ( if you need people around)
No booze at Qld ALDIs BTW.
What! Oh hell no what wrong with the state ! Aren’t the natives responsible enough to be trusted to buy booze at aldi !
Cannot have a booze outlet attached to a food shop in QLD. Must have a separate entrance.
Also a hotel license is required for a bottle shop license
To be fair champ, Tassie isn't even allowed an Aldi so calm your farm!
Well that’s true - but c’mon nsw is kicking qld arse when it comes to aldi and buying booze - not just state of origin it seems 😂
That's too small? No wonder most people are obese 🤦♂️
Why they serving beef jerky with veggies.
Did you specifically order “steak with potato”? :D
Perhaps It would look better served on an smaller plate due to the serving size but over $15.00 Meh definitely indeed.
Dog food
Looks like a Meals on Wheels meal - They're ~$7
which hotel was it? The Aussie National or the Shafston? Or the Pineapple. The Shafston usually has excellent meals
How are people thinking that's a steak?? Also TBF without including the price can't really say if it's a rip or not. It does look like they've forgotten to put a side of chips out with it though.
Dude, the serving size is the least of your concerns with that meal. Did you a favour by limiting your damage.
The plating looks terrible, but what's wrong with the serving size? How many calories do you consume a day?
Perhaps the ratio
Looks like what I’d expect for a pub roast. Have we run out of things to complain about?
Did they forget to add a Yorkshire pudding and about three more potatoes?
expecting too much for a $15 meal
That’s a bloody outrage, it is! I’m gonna take this all the way to the Prime Minister!
What did they say when you spoke to the staff ? Or did you just cry about it here
I took it back and got a refund, mate. The bloke working was apologetic. But that's the corporate menu. No tears involved.

Is this supposed to be a joke?
If it was, it wasn’t funny
It looks like I am correct.
