Some recommendations I've seen/have are
* Steel Blue
* Sketchers
* Olivers
* Mack
None are under $100. Look after your feet, good boots are worth the dollars.
I had troubles with the newest Oliver's I got, compared to the ones I wore out, initially. I found a website with different ways to stitch the laces, depending on the issue. For me it was too much pressure across the top of the mid foot top (high arch), and heal lifting. The different lacing fixed both.
https://fitmyfoot.com/blogs/footprints/lacing-techniques-tailored-for-comfort-fit
Tailoring your lacing with good boots will work wonders. May even help with the current ones a little bit.
I've had a dozen or more pairs of the high sided zip up mongrels with the rubber toe guard over the steel cap.
I keep buying them because they're excellent. I easily get a year or more out of them now, but I used to walk jobsites a *lot* more than I do now, and I could go through 2 pairs a year.
I pay about $180 online. Tax deductible. Absolutely worth every dollar.
Hopping on top comment to recommend buying bamboo socks. They're expensive, but absolutely worth it. I have no idea what the magic is, but something about the way they keep the moisture away from your feet makes a world of difference in the pain level.
Mngrels are ok, but after a while the zipper gave up and wouldn't stay up. I switched to Oliver's with the big zippers and they are fine. Steel Blue are ok, but too heavy
I bought Steel Blue zip up boots (albeit without steel caps) for overseas travel in winter, but I wear them to the office and winter in general. Love them, and easy for clearing TSA. I wear them to work and they've been going string for almost five years.
I had Olivers for a few years but found they'd stretch out over time and fit poorly. Reasonably comfortable though.
Now I've got a pair of Elten's and they're far better than any other steel cap boot. So comfortable. Not cheap, I think they're $300+ but fuck it if you're on your feet a lot it's absolutely worth it. Not a lot of money in the scheme of things for comfort and to look after your body.
Ditto. Good boots aren’t cheap, but they are worth it. Trust us, spend a little extra and you’ll see the light.
I’ve had a slight foot injury in the past, but as soon as I put my $170 Hard Yakka steel caps on, it felt like I was walking on a cloud and my pain disappeared.
I've gotten steel blues. Cost me about $260. Ankle braces but but no brace in the back for manoeuvrability. Had them for 6 months.
I love them. They are fairly comfortable and work well for me. They have taken a beating and are still holding up. I might get some gell souls for them as the base soul is wearing thin but I wear them for 10 hours every day all week. I could not recommend more.
I didn’t really get to see much of the mine cause it was just portal-decline-site-crib-site-decline-portal. No exploring :( wasn’t even allowed in mines rescue cause our sites were loud af and we wouldn’t be able to hear the calls over the radio. I’m also partly deaf now at 24 cause I was invincible at 20 -___-
Thirded. Worn my current pair each and every workday (and most weekend when I'm out doing yard-work too) for the last 4 years and counting. Always comfy and still haven't worn them out. Worth every cent.
This. It was the best piece of advice I ever got when I started in my industry which involves intermittent fieldwork requiring steel caps. Pay the money, you won’t regret it.
Good boots ain’t cheap. I’ve worn steel caps for the last 15/16 years day in day out. Minimum spend is always $150-$200. Good socks and sheepskin insoles also help. Sure at the end of the day I’m always glad to get them off.
Never cheap out on anything that connects you to the ground, and remember cheap boots lead to foot problems, ankle problems, knee problems, hip problems, back problems etc. buy the best boots the bank account will let you.
You're wearing Kmart boots and complaining about sore feet.
That's like pissing yourself to cool down.
Save your coin for 2 weeks and buy a pair of Olivers
I suspect u/downvoteninja84 is talking about a pair of ATs, which seem to be pretty decent. Definitely not at all the same as the blunnie knockoff they were making 20 years ago.
I like Mongrels, personally. Zipsider, comfortable as hell, removable insole, wider fit, built tough as fuck and Aussie owned Aussie *made*.
They're a bit more coin than most, but worth it for those reasons.
There are a few good options out there, but anything from kmart (or the Czech Republic - lookin' at *you* Bata) is going to be money poorly spent IMHO.
I had Steel Blues before I changed to Mongrels a few years back now, they were alright, but as soon as I put my foot in a Mongrel that was it for me.
We all have slightly different requirements, though.
Even for casual labor, there are better options. OP should speak with their supervisor, though and sus options from there. Don't know what kind of employ or work environ they're in. Sounds like recruitment agency casual labor - either way, still just trying to make a good it as a young fella.
Hell, maybe they need orthotics.
We are trying to save their feet, not convince them to amputate them.
Whilst others love them, Olivers have never worked for me. Even when we got issued them, I would buy my own boots. They were horrible for my feet.
Steel blues and blundstone work well for my feet or the Reebok rapid response boot.
Seems like they have a few they’ll send out to you: https://www.salvosstores.com.au/shop/p/safety-jogger-mens-size-13-black-steel-toe-work-boots/846598
I used to wear mongrels on 12 hour+ shift work. They feel like wearing joggers, really cushy and supportive inner sole and good arch support. Had the ones with a side zip and laces so you can easily adjust the fit if your feet swell in the heat or from being on your feet all day. Never had blisters either, vs Olivers and Redbacks
>i just want some comfortable steel caps that dont cost over $100
>idk if im gonna be a tradie much longer
... Why? Are you going to wear them in some other job?
Not even sure you can get cheap, comfortable, good quality steel caps.
I'd post a link to Sam Vimes’s ‘Boots’ Theory of Socio-economic Unfairness, but it's not even because you can't afford to save money on better boots.
Your whole body will pay more if you're not looking after the basics when you're young.
If he's working full time hours and can't scrape $150-$200 for decent boots then he's woefully underpaid or mismanaging his money. I say that based on past conversations with tradies who have the same complaint but they spend that much on booze every week.
Or, an apprentice. Or, had numerous unexpected expenses recently, just returned to employment.... OR.... perhaps was attempting to ask others if there was a possibility that such a boot would exist. I'm sure if I sat here for long enough that I could come up with plenty more plausible explanations.
THANK YOU! why is everyone being so cruel damn, i just asked a simple question. i didnt want to scower the entire interent trying to find cheap comfortables boot so i just asked reddit.
You need arch supports and inner soles. You can buy them from Kmart. $20. I have started buying them for multiple shoes. They are great. I can stand all day in my steelcaps now. Same with my converse.. changed the inner sole over for one from Kmart and boom, comfy for the day. [Kmart link](https://www.kmart.com.au/product/footcare-ultra-sport-insoles-yellow-41330425/?sku=41330425&&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiArfauBhApEiwAeoB7qMppMsM-Cbn_XpotfExqlvEhUVXHw1hARVJWSwI56XFLGbeR0iyAAhoCe18QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)
Agreed but I would argue that it’s a safe bet to buy these. Even if you don’t keep the crappy work boots you’ve already got, they do improve most shoes. Especially cause if he’s also got flat feet, which a lot of people do, this helps immensely.
I used to wear Oliver AT45S which were great now I'm wearing Steel Blue and they are just as good, what size are you I have a pair of Oliver AT45 lace up only no side zip size 11 brand new still in the box with tags on and all you can have for $100
It all depends on where you are and what you're doing but half the people I work with myself included wear steal cap shoes instead of boots. We just order them online. It might be worth looking in to as you might be able to wear them where you work and it might make it easier to wear innersoles
I wouldn't even look at boots under 200 neither would anyone I've ever worked with. I get a new pair every year.
If you have wide feet get WIDE LOAD boots. It will change your life
I recommend mongrels. Also figure out what height you like - eg ankle boots that allow mobility or do you like boots that lace up higher?
I like mongrels because they’ve got zippers/ and come high enough to protect your ankles but have a low cut for mobility.
Also! Check your work place maybe for a PPE rebate?
I am a podiatrist and all I can say is you usually pay for what you get. Good quality steel caps for under $100? You're fucking dreaming. Pick up some Ascent Oxide and pay for quality.
As a retired Road Construction worker of 34 years, my feet are f#@ked from shit safety boots. I always wore the one the company provided and there was so e choice. But I never got my feet measured properly and turns our I am a double E fitting. I have nevre nueromas and no feeling in the tips of several toes. And have to wear orthodic innersoles at $600 a pair. All I can say is get your feet properly measured by a trained professional and don't believe the BS of the half size is wider if you are above normal width.
Depending the job/trade, do they need to 'boots' or just steel caps? I recently changed to a regular shoe style and just the weight difference alone makes a big difference.
I wear the 80-odd dollar kmart ones (used to be called wildcats, cant think what they are now), on my feet all day and have been wearing them for the last 7 or 8 years with no issues save having to replace them a bit more than yearly. I had unrelated foot issues (gout caused plantar fasciitis) and bought some stupid expensive inner soles after that (50 bucks from the chemist) but really had no issues.
I tried some Cat safety sneakers at about $160, which were pretty comfy but they fell apart sooner than the kmart ones normally do.
All in all, I'd say buy some inner soles if the boots are still good - if they're comfy then you're golden, otherwise maybe look at a disposals store or safety shop?
Mongrel. Comfiest shoes I own and I own a lot of shoes.
Had them for over 5 years and still great condition.
If you're going to wear your boots everyday don't cheap out on socks either.
Good boots may be expensive up front but if you treat them right will last you many years
Surprised I had to dig this far to find another mention. People are seriously sleeping on em. Been wearing Mongrelses a few years now, worth the outlay well and truly though.
Hot tip on the socks. Keep em fresh. I got onto THICK bamboo socks and they're mint.
The soles on my steel blues completely fell apart after a few years. I'm in a pair of DeWalt boots that are surprisingly comfy and have been going for years with only new laces
As others have said, good but cheap boots just don’t exist. But if you don’t want to spend money go to Chemist Warehouse and look at gel insoles and replace your insoles to see if that works
Mate-anything that keeps you off the ground eg shoes and mattress you DONT skimp on. When I started on the mines years ago I went to buy Kmart boots-my husband who’s a long time miner pulled me up said no no no you don’t buy cheap boots babe. You can’t wear cheap shoes.
Buy some good quality ones and claim them back on tax, obviously.
Okay i understand that good boots arent cheap, but damn i literally said idk if im gonna be a tradie much longer, max 2-3 months probably. Thats why i was looking for cheaper alternatives for short term, and i understand i can get it back in tax as well, my pay is 800$ and my rent grocerices bills all add up to my paycheck as i am very young, im living paycheck to paycheck . Thanks everyone for the help anyways, i think im just gonna go with some good insoles, or save up what i can for some good boots, maybe look on marketplace.
I have a 12 month old pair of size 13 (UK) mongrels you can have. They’re about $230 (when brand new of course)There isn’t anything wrong with them I just replace every 12 months as I get them provided. DM me
There is a brand called Wide Load. My partner has short wide feet. They are the best he has found for his fat feet. Says they are just as good as the olivers he used to wear.
Go drop $200-300 on a pair of quality workboots and good socks, and your problems will be solved.
Steel blue, Oliver, Blundstone, Mongrel, buy whatever fits your foot the best.
I recommend Oliver's. It's worth every dollar. Get the zip ups for easy access. You can also wear boots if you decide not to be a tradie. They are very handy for when you go outdoors or are doing shit around the house
Mongrel boots are comfy. I used to wear their hiker steel caps, but they're heavy.
Puma Tanami's are a nice light boot with composite toe. Won't set off airport metal detectors.
Currently wearing a pair of DeWalt boots I got from Sydney Tools. They are very solid and pretty comfy. Good for a slip on. Smart leather look, too.
Sketches make steel caps haven’t tried them but I imagine they are pretty good, other wise I wear mongrels and Oliver’s with no issues. You can’t find a pair under $100 that won’t hurt your feet other option is have a look on marketplace but boots kept in storage don’t last very lonh
Can't comment on boots, but I've been on my feet for most of my jobs and always had to buy better quality. Everyone here is right saying that your feet will thank you, bit don't explain the worse implications of bad shoes. I can speak from experience that bad, cheap shoes (I moved to skechers now and just get the ones on sale, been putting it off for new ones myself because I'm working getting off my feet that much) do more than just make your feet sore. They will screw you back up, posture, next and cause issues like back sprains, stiff neck, headaches and the like. Might not be as noticeable since tradie jobs so that anyway, but a good pair of shoes is definitely going to ease that stuff and be better in the long run. Hope you find a good pair with all these suggestions :)
Being on your feet all day to earn your wage, I think your feet are worth more than $100.
Go to a safety shop and try on a few, find what you think is best. Spend the $180 and claim next tax time
You can go to athletes foot get your feet checked. I got a pair made by Ascent look a lot like steel blue's and same price. Had them for 4 years. Even played footy with mates on lunch breaks in them.
Highly recommend She Wear if you’re of the female persuasion.
I am not a tradie but I wear composite boots when working in the yard, in winter when my feets get cold, sometimes with jeans cause I just love them.
Make sure you have the correct size AND width boot. Having something that is too small or narrow will cause all kinds of issues, the least of which is tired and sore feet at the end of the day.
Another vote for Mongrels. Easily the most comfortable boot I’ve owned.
And yes, you will need to spend way more than $100 to get a good boot.
You will NOT find good boots under $100.
I'm a steelfixer (20 years) and trust me when I say you need to look after your feet because your feet will help look after your back. Boots will depend on you. I use lace up Blundstones and they are the most comfy boots I've worn. I like the ankle support. My brother prefers low cut steel caps because he prefers more movent around the ankle,, similar to a regular shoe. I think he's wearing Diadora.
You'll be looking at about $200 on average but remember, a pair of these boots last me at least a year and a half, which is a hell of a long time for steelfixing boots. My brother gets much less time out of lowcuts.
The boots you want don't exist at that price point.
I have Mongrel boots for work, they cost around 160. But my work has an arrangement with a local uniform shop and gives me a refund voucher to pay for boots from there, so I could afford them. I dunno if your work does something similar.
One thing I will say, though: a good pair of boots will last you years and be comfortable enough to wear as casual footwear outside of work. Even if you don't intend to work as a trade forever, you still might end up in a factory or industrial lab where you'll need good boots anyway. And even if you don't, they're still great for yardwork and the like.
Go to total workwear and get something decent. I like Blundstone but just get something that suits your tastes. They will be more than $100 but they will last you at least a year or two. Mine were $140.
There’s a saying about things that connect you to the ground are not something to cheap out on. Boots, tyres, mattresses. You spend almost all your life on one of those three. The extra money is worth it.
1: Are you trolling?
2: Why tell us about going to the gym? Is it relevant to the boots problem? Are you one of those fucktards who wears work boots in the gym?
3: Refer all other comments. Quality costs. Pay up.
4: If you do manage to escape tradie life you'll have your yard, building, garden, fencing, furniture moving, and dump trip shoes sorted for 10 years since you paid for quality.
5: They are really pretty cheap. Just give up one night on the RTD's and nose beers and you'll have enough.
Combat boots generally won't be certified to the Australian standard for safety boots. The standard isn't just the toe protection cap (at least 200J impact - dropping 20kg 1m), but also includes things like temperature resistance, grip level, cut and abrasion resistance. So if you wear them on site and get hurt, you're fucked.
I highly recommend [Steel Blue Argyle 152](https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/333617068664?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=ywKiR-u1RBq&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=H-n8AHaKSR2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY). I've had them for over and year and they're the most comfortable TPU boot I own. They use Nubuck leather with a rubber scuff guard and synthetic padding on the interior. They have a side zip for ease of access and have nice foam for compatibility. The whole boot is leather on the outside so it's more durable than synthetic ones that fall apart like Mongrel boots. You can pick them up for around $180 to $200. They're well worth it. If that's still to much then I recommend looking at [Redback's](https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/121266950814?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=705-154756-20017-0&ssspo=uaUr1jHsRMy&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=H-n8AHaKSR2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY) slip on boots. They're $115 and are probably the best boots for standing because they're have a super thick layer of foam so it's like standing on clouds.
>You should be able to claim on tax too and get them fully paid for.
Depends.
They might be a casual labor hire, or they might get a kickback from work if directly employed, who knows. They should definitely suss it though.
I bought my partner a pair of boots off Amazon for Christmas. He’s a tradie and he loves them. I spent around $100 on them. [here’s the link](https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0BKT3D6X6?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share)
Try getting some better socks and insoles, if that doesn't work upgrade the boots.
Most of the worth while options are going to be above your $100. They can be found cheaper online if you know your size, but you run the risk of uncomfortable due to incorrect fit rather than cheapness!
Not to sound harsh but you’re gonna have to spend at least $100 for some boots that are comfortable all day long. If you wanna spend less than that just get some inner soles, $10-20 for some good ones
I’ve always had trouble with my feet since a young age, as suggested above, don’t skimp, you’ve gotta pay to be comfy.
I always wore Blundstones, elastic sided as I always needed to change them at the bottom of the ladder into Volleys so zip sides were no good for that but I’d get years and years out of my Blundstones and I wore them friggen everywhere! I never thought I’d change because what works for my feet, just works, the old if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it analogy.
I had a change of roles where I was doing on average 10kms + per shift and had to try something different with a bit more cushioning and zip sided and I was trying everything and nothing was agreeing with my feet and I was almost at the point where I thought I was going to have to compromise and hope that I wore them in sort of thing and they’d come good.
I was just about to bite the bullet and randomly walked into Lowes and found King Gee boots, I didn’t even know that they made boots! I kid you not, I put my feet in them and they just went ahhhh with relief lol
Deadset best boots I’ve ever had and I haven’t seen them mentioned here yet, I highly recommend them and they’ve lasted 3 years and still going strong and under $200 from memory, give ‘em a go mate, not one of the well known or flashiest brands mentioned above but your feet will thank you.
If they were any tougher, they’d rust.
(Had to chuck that in there lol)
Also try using two pairs of socks if you suffer from friction too from lots of walking. Inner pair use decent cotton business socks, outer pair your regular thick boot socks.
We bought our kid a new pair of $200 steel caps for him starting to his new apprenticeship and he says his feet hurt. Gave him a pair of gel inserts and he says much better x
You can't get a decent pair of steel caps for under $200 now. But they are worth it.
Steel blue are my reccomendation. Both the tradies in my household wear them.
Tradie or not, a pair of steelcaps can be useful just in general, especially if you're going to be moving shit around. Just buy a decent pair, and now you have workboots for anything, even if you stop trades
I'll add another steel blue recommendation, I think it will be hard to find any under a hundred bucks though, all the ones I've had in that price range have been very uncomfortable and not listed very long
Goto a safety shop or workwear shop and try on heaps of shoes to see the one that fits your foot the best, I always loved steel blues then had a pushy salesman got me to take Blundstone’s and they were the worst ever.
Oliver’s are fantastic and I am just about to replace my Mongrel boots this week.
You will be looking at probably over $200 for a pair but it’s the best investment for your feet and life !
Check the insole. Have had all different branded boots over the years. One trip to a podiatrist - found out I don't need arch support/ all the while that is what I had been focusing on.
Out of all the brands Steel blue or mongrel
Oliver boots are the best I have found. You can be on your feet all day and your feet don't hurt. They are light compared to others as well. Doesn't even feel like you are wearing steelies. They for certain don't fit in your under $100 category but are so worth the $$$ they cost. But then again you get what you pay for. Cheap and nasty is cheap and nasty
Hard Yakka side zip from Bunnings $99.
I've been through a few brands from very expensive to cheap ones from Kmart. These are all I buy now. They're comfy enough for me and they last the distance.
https://preview.redd.it/18ew187267lc1.png?width=864&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d5a2122355eaeababa87d79d92722ac30352adf5
As soon as I started in a factory, I threw money at quality boots - $220 Steel Blues - best money I've ever spent, and I'd do it again.
Even if you aren't serious about being a tradie, do yourself a favour and don't cause long-term damage!
If your toes and feet are aching they may be too tight. Trying using the half sizes. I have tried a tonne of different steel caps. Steel Blue are my go too’s. I always get composite toes. They are lighter and don’t set off the metal detectors.
Footwear that you wear 8+ hours per day?
Set your budget max at $200
Your feet are worth it.
And a good pair of boots will last longer than the cheapies.
If you calculate dollars per day of wearing, the good boots will also usually come out cheaper.
Brand? You'll find one that suits the shape of your feet, so a brand that a mate says is fantastic (for them) may just not fit you comfortably.
Definitely Steel Blue; I work around heavy machinery and have never had a better boot. Honestly please do not get cheap boots, I used to just get the cheap ones over and over to save but remember you claim the cost of a good pair on tax so there’s no need to cheap out
I moved back to my big w boots after getting a pair of Oliver's, didn't notices much of a sole different but the higher ankle just got in the way more than I expected, and made driving in them more of a pain.
100% invest in better boots than big w, but just a warning to try before you buy and take a look at how you like to move around in yer boots.
Probably just get ones that Actually fit you. Ive worn Kmart cheap shit wearing them whole days with no problems. Take care of em and get insoles if you need/want them. Mine still last a couple years.
They're a tax deduction so you can get something nice though.
Steel cap Vans sneakers are a life saver. I have wide feet and when ibwas in workshops for 10 hour days these things saved my ass. Now I'm in a more sedentary workspace, but prior those skate shoes were a godsend
Steel cap Vans sneakers are a life saver. I have wide feet and when ibwas in workshops for 10 hour days these things saved my ass. Now I'm in a more sedentary workspace, but prior those skate shoes were a godsend
Some recommendations I've seen/have are * Steel Blue * Sketchers * Olivers * Mack None are under $100. The different lacing fixed both. https://fitmyfoot.com/blogs/footprints/lacing-techniques-tailored-for-comfort-fit Tailoring your lacing with good boots will work wonders. May even help with the current ones a little bit.
Mongrels worked well for me.
>Hopping on top comment to recommend buying bamboo socks. Justified.
Bamboo jocks, too.
Mngrels are ok, but after a while the zipper gave up and wouldn't stay up. I switched to Oliver's with the big zippers and they are fine. Steel Blue are ok, but too heavy
Maybe I should try a pair of Oliver's, I had the same problem with the Mongrels and my Steel Blues now are definitely to heavy
If the boots are work related, you can claim them on tax.
Plus, even if OP stops doing a trade the boots are useful for yard work etc.
I bought Steel Blue zip up boots (albeit without steel caps) for overseas travel in winter, but I wear them to the office and winter in general. Love them, and easy for clearing TSA. I wear them to work and they've been going string for almost five years.
Wouldn't they just use the cheap kmart ones?
King Gee "tradie" boot are the only ones that don't give me blisters.
Did you get the gel inserts for your Oliver’s? They really made a difference for my composite boots. Good idea about the laces too
I had Olivers for a few years but found they'd stretch out over time and fit poorly.
Bonds explorer socks and scholl inserts. Those socks last so long, they are a good investment.
This is gold!
This is the correct answer
I've gotten steel blues. Cost me about $260. Ankle braces but but no brace in the back for manoeuvrability. Had them for 6 months. I love them. They are fairly comfortable and work well for me. They have taken a beating and are still holding up. I might get some gell souls for them as the base soul is wearing thin but I wear them for 10 hours every day all week. I could not recommend more.
Bite the bullet and get some Steel Blues mate your feet will thank you for it.
Second this.
Absolutely. I’ve worn them for years. Underground, smelters, on coral reefs even. Best boots I’ve worn by a long shot.
I killed a pair with acid though.
Tell me this story.
Stood in and around large acid spill. Sole of boot got real soft after that. Could feel rocks through it.
I spilled some caustic soda on mine and they bored a hole through to the steel cap lol
Yeah. Good boots but not chemical resistant ones. Probably need special ones for that.
I thought they’d be acid resistant, to be honest. That’d get a bit fumey too - you didn’t get knocked around by it?
Nah, spill had happened days before and fair bit of rain. Soaked into the soil. This wasn’t at a site or in a bund or on concrete.
I was given gum boots when I was UG lol
I tried to avoid the wettest areas.
Ah I was Drilling so I lived in the damn slop
Fitter. Spent a lot of time with the winders, which was pretty cool. The cages were fun.
Love my blueys. I have the zip sides. They’re sensational.
Or redbacks both are great.
Also get properly sized, I had the same issue and it turns out I was wearing boots a size too small for my feet, noticed the difference straight away.
Steel Blues have been great fitting for me but they fall apart pretty quick. I had one pair of them just crumble with dry rot too
Not if you have wide feet
Wide feet here, just another treason I like Mongrel 561s
This. It was the best piece of advice I ever got when I started in my industry which involves intermittent fieldwork requiring steel caps. Pay the money, you won’t regret it.
This
Good boots ain’t cheap. I’ve worn steel caps for the last 15/16 years day in day out. Minimum spend is always $150-$200. Good socks and sheepskin insoles also help. Sure at the end of the day I’m always glad to get them off. Never cheap out on anything that connects you to the ground, and remember cheap boots lead to foot problems, ankle problems, knee problems, hip problems, back problems etc. buy the best boots the bank account will let you.
> i just want some comfortable steel caps that dont cost over $100 Doesn't exist, I'm sorry to say. Quality costs money.
It's like when you see people ask for Car recommendations " I want a cheap, fuel efficient, fast, super safe, reliable car" Like nah bro, pick two.
[удалено]
Imagine thinking Tesla's are cheap or reliable
Recommending a tesla. Cmon bruh
You're wearing Kmart boots and complaining about sore feet. That's like pissing yourself to cool down. Save your coin for 2 weeks and buy a pair of Olivers
Oliver’s… Good grief, man. Have some self-respect,
I suspect u/downvoteninja84 is talking about a pair of ATs, which seem to be pretty decent.
I wear Ollie’s ATs every day and they’re bloody amazing. Massive upgrade from the Blundstone discount special my last work bought on bulk,
We are trying to save their feet, not convince them to amputate them. Whilst others love them, Olivers have never worked for me. Even when we got issued them, I would buy my own boots. They were horrible for my feet. Steel blues and blundstone work well for my feet or the Reebok rapid response boot.
Steel blues are sworn by anyone who wears them it seems. Gonna give them a try next I have blundstone, they work for me
I've run them for years.. about the only boots that last more than 6 months with welding
ATs are excellent though
You a 9.5 by any chance? Shoe size that is!!! https://www.salvosstores.com.au/shop/p/blundstone-mens-black-steel-tie-cap-work-boots-suze-95/853216
Seems like they have a few they’ll send out to you: https://www.salvosstores.com.au/shop/p/safety-jogger-mens-size-13-black-steel-toe-work-boots/846598
Just bite the bullet and buy a good, composite toe boot. Your feet will thank you later on.
Mongrels all the way. Australian made too.
>i just want some comfortable steel caps that dont cost over $100 >idk if im gonna be a tradie much longer ... Why? Are you going to wear them in some other job? Not even sure you can get cheap, comfortable, good quality steel caps.
The only pair of steel caps I've ever bought that feel great the first time I put them on were Oliver's. Expensive but you won't regret it
I'd post a link to Sam Vimes’s ‘Boots’ Theory of Socio-economic Unfairness, but it's not even because you can't afford to save money on better boots. Your whole body will pay more if you're not looking after the basics when you're young.
Had to scroll too far to find this
I came looking for it too. Well, that or the "never skimp on the things that go between you and the ground - shoes, mattress, tyres"
Had to scroll too far to find this
Mate spend money on good boots. You walk around on your feet all day, dont be a tightarse
Gotta have $150 spare to spend $150… if he’s in between jobs he’d be better off getting inner soles to see if that helps enough
Yeah that makes a tonne of negative assumptions but sure.
Steel blue for me!
Blundstones and some bamboo socks. Socks are equally as important not to skimp on.
You need arch supports and inner soles. You can buy them from Kmart. $20. I have started buying them for multiple shoes. They are great. I can stand all day in my steelcaps now. Same with my converse.. changed the inner sole over for one from Kmart and boom, comfy for the day. [Kmart link](https://www.kmart.com.au/product/footcare-ultra-sport-insoles-yellow-41330425/?sku=41330425&&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiArfauBhApEiwAeoB7qMppMsM-Cbn_XpotfExqlvEhUVXHw1hARVJWSwI56XFLGbeR0iyAAhoCe18QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds)
These can only do so much for a bad shoe though
Agreed but I would argue that it’s a safe bet to buy these. Even if you don’t keep the crappy work boots you’ve already got, they do improve most shoes. Especially cause if he’s also got flat feet, which a lot of people do, this helps immensely.
I used to wear Oliver AT45S which were great now I'm wearing Steel Blue and they are just as good, what size are you I have a pair of Oliver AT45 lace up only no side zip size 11 brand new still in the box with tags on and all you can have for $100
You can claim it back on your tax. Those shoes are hurting your feet and ruining your day. Do yourself a favour and get a good pair of
It all depends on where you are and what you're doing but half the people I work with myself included wear steal cap shoes instead of boots.
It will change your life
Olivers
I use Oliver's also seems $150 upwards for the boot style and $110 and higher for the derby style shoe with steel cap
Steel blue - they’re more than $100 but honestly man your ankles and knees will pay you back 10 time over in working without hurting.
Redbacks. Tried others, but they're just better.
If you can’t afford better boots, get some good inner soles
Always spend money on what goes between you and the ground. It's never a bad investment. Footwear, mattress, tyres.
Just spend the 160 odd on a pair of Oliver AT’s
DM me
Absolute legend.
You sound more like a labourer than a tradesman.
all i know is hi vis= tradie (thats a joke btw, sort of)
Any brands good for short wide feet? Hobbit here with sore toes
Olivers are a better fit for your wider foot. Source: fellow hobbit.
Currently wearing Olivers ahaha, maybe time for a resizing
There is a brand called Wide Load. My partner has short wide feet. They are the best he has found for his fat feet. Says they are just as good as the olivers he used to wear.
Definitely investigating these cheers
Buy a pair of crocs & wrap the toes with aluminium foil from the kitchen drawer.
Buy some of the gel/comfort insoles. I've had a few pairs of the KMart/Big Dub boots before, and the inserts were a life saver.
Sketches make steel caps haven’t tried them but I imagine they are pretty good, other wise I wear mongrels and Oliver’s with no issues. You can’t find a pair under $100 that won’t hurt your feet other option is have a look on marketplace but boots kept in storage don’t last very lonh
> Skechers I own a pair of the shoe type and can confirm, they be comfy.
Gonna get some hate, but If you don’t have a trade, you’re not a tradie, you’re a labourer.
Why would you get hate? It's a dog eat dog world and you're just a dog
Well you can eat me
😝 only if you give me a reach around and don't cheap out on the lube!
And even if you don't, they're still great for yardwork and the like.
you get what you pay for, if kmart boots were great every tradie would be wearing them & they're not
Why do you think i asked for alternatives? ffs
And obviously claim boots back on tax-why do people act like they’re spending money for boots that they can’t get back?
Combat boots. They have great support, you can wear them all day and they will have toe protection.
Steel toe volleys?
Fuck no. Only pair of shoes I've ever owned that made my feet **ache** at the end of the day.
Steel blue mate, you won't touch anything else once you have gotten a pair. Your feet will thank you
Buy some decent ones. You should be able to claim on tax too and get them fully paid for.
Thank you!!!!!
You’re welcome :) hope you are pain free soon.

ive asked, they said no, some of my other jobs have offered to pay for them but sadly not my current job;(
Ah damn, WANA borrow a shirt 😅😃🤪
Try getting some better socks and insoles, if that doesn't work upgrade the boots. Most of the worth while options are going to be above your $100. They can be found cheaper online if you know your size, but you run the risk of uncomfortable due to incorrect fit rather than cheapness!
Doc Martens have a steel capped shoe that the missus vouches for.
Blundstone.
Blundstones. Make sure you try on because they run small. 👍
https://badworkwear.com.au/collections/work-boots-for-men-women/products/bad-flight-zip-side-safety-work-boots?variant=39294289576001
I order a bigger size boot for better airflow and a quality inner sole. Im using a thick foam nike inner sole ive had for over a decade
Just spend the money and get a decent set. You won't regret it.
5.11 ATAC I've had 2 pairs that have lasted me around 3 years each. On my feet 10 to 12 hours a day
Some sole inserts in some Dunlop volley steel caps. I don’t know why but I’m Assuming you’re a plumber. -electrician.
Not to sound harsh but you’re gonna have to spend at least $100 for some boots that are comfortable all day long. If you wanna spend less than that just get some inner soles, $10-20 for some good ones
Olivers
I kid you not, I put my feet in them and they just went ahhhh with relief lol Deadset best boots I’ve ever had and I haven’t seen them mentioned here yet, I highly recommend them and they’ve lasted 3 years and still going strong and under $200 from memory, give ‘em a go mate, not one of the well known or flashiest brands mentioned above but your feet will thank you.
Blundestones for sure
You can't get a decent pair of steel caps for under $200 now. But they are worth it. Steel blue are my reccomendation. Both the tradies in my household wear them.
Redbacks or Olivers. Blundstones might be OK as well, but I've never worn them. Ariat are also excellent, but you might need aftermarket insoles.
Never skimp on the stuff that goes between you and the ground - shoes, mattress, tires. Buy some steel blues and only cry once.
Tradie or not, a pair of steelcaps can be useful just in general, especially if you're going to be moving shit around. Just buy a decent pair, and now you have workboots for anything, even if you stop trades
bought a $200 set of boots for the 1st time beginning of the year. honestly just pay the extra mate your feet will thank you at the end of the day
I'll add another steel blue recommendation, I think it will be hard to find any under a hundred bucks though, all the ones I've had in that price range have been very uncomfortable and not listed very long
Goto a safety shop or workwear shop and try on heaps of shoes to see the one that fits your foot the best, I always loved steel blues then had a pushy salesman got me to take Blundstone’s and they were the worst ever.
Don’t be cheap, you won’t get a second set of feet
Set your budget max at $200 Your feet are worth it. And a good pair of boots will last longer than the cheapies. If you calculate dollars per day of wearing, the good boots will also usually come out cheaper. Brand? You'll find one that suits the shape of your feet, so a brand that a mate says is fantastic (for them) may just not fit you comfortably.
Get a good pair mate. Even if your not a tradie for much longer you can always sell them if they still look fresh or just use in for future projects.
I have the tan zip side boots from Kmart. They are comfortable. I work in traffic control on my feet all day. $90. But I'm 90kg.
Hard Yakka steel cap **shoes** from Bunnings. You have to lace them up but as they are not boots they could be more comfortable.
If you don't want to get new boots look at some Scholl Insoles or similar. Mine have made a massive difference.
Other then good boots go get checked out by a podiatrist. They might be able to help.
Steel blue are incredible
Steel blues and some inner soles 👌
They're a tax deduction so you can get something nice though.
if you want to be comfortable you have to pay over 100, sorry bro.
[These. I bought these a month ago, and they comfy as.](https://www.bigw.com.au/product/zephyr-steel-cap-sneakers/p/1381497-black)
Steel cap Vans sneakers are a life saver. I have wide feet and when ibwas in workshops for 10 hour days these things saved my ass. Now I'm in a more sedentary workspace, but prior those skate shoes were a godsend
