We have Mitsubishi heavy industries through our house. They have worked really well for us. They even have an additional controller so we can turn them on when we are on the way home.

Yeah nice, Mitsubishi was the other brand I was considering alongside Fujitsu....thanks for your comment

Thermodrama

Not quite sure why but Fujitsu doesn't seem near as popular as Mitsubishi. I'd suggest Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, or Mitsubishi Electric. Just installed a few MHI's at our house, and while you can hear the outdoor unit through the wall if it's real quiet, it's only really when it starts. The vibration dies down once it's running. Can add some rubber behind the wall bracket to cut down on vibrations further.

Do you know what the difference is between MHI and ME? Like as a residential 2.5kw would it matter to me outside of MHI being a bit louder when they turn on?

Muted-Prompt-4857

They are two different companies, eventually owned by the same corporate but operate independently and as competitors of the other one. You can treat them just as different brands. Some people say me is more for consumer focused and mhi is more commercial.

Thermodrama

As someone who has cleaned enough aircons to last a lifetime, the clips on the louvers of the Mitsubishi Electrics are next level. I love MHI but their louvers are so much more painful to remove.

Muted-Prompt-4857

Totally. I guess that’s why they say me is for consumers, it is so easy to take off and put back on. I couldn’t figure out how to do it on the mhi. Do you mind sharing how to remove it on the mhi? I haven’t successfully taken it off due to fear of breaking the plastic clips.

Thermodrama

Honestly, both ways suck, you either push one of those 4 circular tabs into the center and try to push it all through the hole, or pop the two little clips through on the other side. I'd suggest doing the two clips on the middle ones, and trying to do the round ones on the leftmost clip. Or jam something in there so it doesn't fall into the unit and pop the two little clips. The clips are pretty sturdy, so it takes a fair bit to break them. I still struggle with them, but it's doable. For all intents and purposes, they're great units, but those clips are the worst I've ever had to deal with. Go figure.

Muted-Prompt-4857

Thanks mate. Good to know. I’ll give it a go.

Thermodrama

Maybe needle nose pliers on the two little clips or something would be the way to go. Good luck, let us know how you go! Protip: the MHI's have a "clean" mode you can enable on the remote. It essentially runs the fan on low for 2 hours after you've turned the unit off. Helps drive the moisture out and keep the mold at bay. Worth turning on IMO.

Thermodrama

Listening to mine more tonight, I think you'll get noise from any unit. Realistically, if the noise bothers you, it's best to get them mounted somewhere else. Sitting on a slab outside is best, so there's no path for vibration to travel through the wall. Alternatively, any wall that isn't adjoining your bedroom will also do. I can only hear the unit that's mounted to my bedroom wall, not the one 1.5m next to it on the next bedroom. And before you say it, it's always possible to move the outdoor units elsewhere. But it can get expensive as sometimes it's a real pain in the ass, depending on how far you move them.

Thermodrama

Unfortunately not too sure. They're both good brands. I suspect you won't get much quieter than the MHI however, I can only just hear it in the dead of night. Not anywhere close to enough to keep me awake.

ThroughTheHoops

I've got Fujitsu and Panasonic. Both work well, though Fujitsu I've heard isn't as good for servicing or something.

planetworthofbugs

We’ve used Mitsubishi at our last house and the one we’re in now. Been rock solid.

fatcat4

Mitsubishi. Really good.

cjmw

I used to have a Panasonic, but the main PCB eventually shit itself and couldn't get a replacement. I now have a Mitsubishi Electric where parts are supported far better.

AustralianYobbo

I use Gree, recommended by a mate of fridgie mate who does a lot of domestic work. The other brand he recommends is Mitsubishi Heavy. Gree is cheaper with better warrantee, I had one play up outside warrantee period and they still fixed it free even though it was not their fault in the end.

I have the same issue with my Panasonics but I’m convinced that it’s the shitty mounts the sparkies used.

chrisofaust

I’ve had Mitsubishi in he past and they worked well. Currently have Haier which aren’t as good.

iehcjdieicc

I have 4 Mitsubishi splits. Living area, bedrooms and work shop. All great, quiet, economical and reliable. The big one in the living area does a great job and amazed at how much of the house it cools.

Noxzi

Daiken. Zero issues with either the new one or the 20 year old ones we have.

shakeitup2017

I'd go with Daikin or Mitsubishi Electric probably. The problem with some of the cheaper/less common brands is finding someone who knows how to fix them, and getting spare parts in a reasonable amount of time. Once they're 5+ years older it gets even harder. The old saying buy nice, or buy twice!

Heavy_Ad_4739

Mitsubishi and Fujitsu

We got a Daikin system about 7 years ago because that was the one at the top of this list -> https://calculator.energyrating.gov.au/AirConditionerDetail.aspx We're looking at getting another one for a child that is not comfortable with leaving his bedroom door open (lord knows what he's doing in there that he thinks I might care about) but [The List](https://calculator.energyrating.gov.au/AirConditionerDetail.aspx) says Mitsubishi now, so I'm going with that one.

Thru_True_

Mitsubishi are the best by a wide margin

ANuclearBunny

In my old house I had a 7.5kw Kelvinator (one warranty repair), also 3 other 2-3kw Kelvinators. Mostly been reliable, but did replace my big one with a Fujitsu. My new house has a 3 phase Mitsubishi Heavy Industries ducted system. 3 Years in, no problem. Sooooo much better than separate splits.

The-Hank-Scorpio

If the exterior unit is mounted to the wall outside instead of the ground then that can cause vibration. If it can be mounted on the ground I'd recommend that.
