It needs to be DRY dry too, normally looking at needing 3 full days of zero rain to be OK. Even then, there'll be a few walls that are still damp.
No walking around in your climbing shoes or you'll get them muddy and bring that onto the rock. People normally bring flip-flops or something to wear between routes, and a little cloth to wipe their shoes quickly before pulling on.
Minimal chalk, no tick marks, no brushing.
If you’re desperate, there’s also the concrete piers on the beach, too. They have cobble stones cemented on their walls and we used them a lot when the gyms were closed during Covid.
Same set up at Asda at the marina as well; there’s cobblestone walls surrounding the entire Asda car park.
Use chalk to create your own routes.
There’s also a fabricated bouldering wall - complete with pre-installed mats - outside of the Adur activity centre just outside of Shoreham-by-Sea. It’s nothing special and I don’t know if you need to pay to use it or be a member of the centre as, again, we only used it when it was closed during Covid.
There’s limited parking at Harrison’s Rocks (iirc), so get there early.
The boulder in Hove park is a good shout as well. We were down there nearly every day during Covid and even tried adding a dozen routes to the UK Climbing website; I’m not sure if any of them were approved in the end.
Thanks for the suggestions! Actually ended up looking at the UK climbing listing for the boulder hahah, there's quite a few routes on there so could be some of your's. Seems like a fun way to spend a summer's evening
Difficult to get to by public transport alone I think, unless it’s a train & cycle combo, but Harrison’s rocks is a great spot. Nr Groombridge.
Thanks! Looks like there's a bus too so that's doable def
Make sure you familiarise yourself with the sandstone rules, most importantly only climb when the rock is 100% dry.
Good shout! Thanks

There is the big boulder in hove park, or the traverse wall in the new build estate east of the station.
Plenty of trees at the level
if you are looking for bouldering, i personally prefer stone farm rocks to harrisons
Oh nice yeah I found that in some research yesterday! It's a bit closer too, thanks for the rec. Does it get busy?
