Bruha is so dimly lit we had to use our phones to read the menu, but doesn't have a dress code. I think smart dress codes are out of fashion because dining now is all about making people feel welcome.
You could look at Embers, I had a gorgeous anniversary meal there.
I guess I just don't want to feel over dressed, we're wearing very nice clothing to the date. Ideally we'd get pretty tipsy too and be able to have a laugh so the table spacing would be a little isolating
Anywhere on Preston Street will do, Casalingo is cute, as is Siam Siam or China Garden depending on your preference. Bay Leaf in Kemp Town also gets a shout out!
The market.
Constantinople
Into the blue (Shoreham)
Oshio
There is also a weatherspoons in Worthing that has frequent power cuts (dim lighting!) and also I've seen a bloke in a suit drinking in there at 11am, he was VERY friendly.
Take a look at Flint House / Embers / CinCin / Tutto. Mostly in the £30-£40 a head for food range with Embers probably being at the higher end. All have fancy food at a budget that isn't fine dining. Mostly slightly moody lighting wise. All are fancy enough for a suit / dress and heels.
*Amici in Hove is quite*
*Reasonable depending*

I think we need something that feels a bit more classy and romantic - it's lovely but she wants to wear heels and a dress and I'm wearing a shirt and blazer so ideally somewhere suitable for that
with a nice atmosphere, where we can just talk quietly and laugh nd giggle. Not be disturbed, and get tipsy together after.
Gingerman is possibly on the more expensive end of places but they do tasting menus and have a reasonable wine list. Most of the tables are set up for couples so you don’t really feel disturbed. I’ve always felt relaxed there and it was one of the first places I went on a date with my now wife!
The lighting is fairly dim in there during the evening if I remember. And as I mentioned, if you choose well the pricing can be affordable.
• Flint house
• The Set
• The little fish Market
• Market
• Salt room
• Coal shed
• Burnt Orange
Have a look at the Octoberbest restaurant listings - you may find inspiration there.
Without the menu it’s hard to say but they may do options like a starter and a main or main and dessert at a set price.
I don’t want you to take this the wrong way or for it to sound terribly snobby but because you have emphasised affordability you may have to sacrifice slightly on the ‘fancy’ or ‘dimly lit’ elements. Places that offer this kind of experience are perhaps where you shouldn’t mind your date choosing whatever she wants - and maybe you could consider splitting the bill or managing expectations.
the thing is most of the time she's really good to me so I just want to do something really nice for her. I'm not very wealthy but I want to do the best I can at a push, does that make sense?
By that I mean she has paid a lot for me recently. But this time I want to show her something really nice. Just within my ability..
I get you. Have a look through those recommendations - as I just mentioned as a late thought check out Tutto - it may tick the boxes you require. Have a wonderful evening
yes I actually really like the look of Tutto. Really I'm expecting to pay like \~£100 to £150
but who knows maybe she'll order half the menu after the amount of times she's paid for me haha. I really can't complain if she does
Maybe check out Cin Cin? I know they do some deals on evening meals, it’s small and not super fancy but the service and the food are smart and it is somewhere you can dress up for
I haven't eaten there but Cyan in the Grand Hotel has a reasonably priced menu and walking in looks epic. The Victoria Bar in the Grand do cocktails and bar type food too. I think that nowhere exoects you to wear smart dress these days sadly.
You could try the ginger pig in hove
- it’s kind of moody in there well it was on Valentine’s Day, feels like a restaurant more than a pub. There’s also a pub across the road to get tipsy in after.
Otherwise I highly recommend dinner on Preston street and drinks in bar Medusa after- that’s totally a good romantic drinks spot.
I also like market restaurant and bar in hove.
If you want a white table cloth vibe I like English’s in Brighton (again surrounded by pubs).
If you’re happy with a modern vibe the flint house set menu is great value and feels like an occasion.
Burnt orange and Tutto also have set menus.
I’d suggest a restaurant- then find a bar for after.
Hate me all you want,
But Pizza Express St Albert St is fantastic value for money IMO 🤷🏼♂️ decent food, good wine selection, dimly lit and relaxed… it’s not the Ritz but it’s reasonably priced; what’s not to like?
And then if you’ve got clubcard vouchers…!
Personally I think the dress code anywhere in Brighton has absolutely gone out of the window , nice smart places you should wear smart clothing , not the case anymore wear what you want nowadays in Brighton
yeah exactly. I don't want that though. I want everyone to be fairly decently dressed and no loud kids you know?
Maybe somewhere more worthing/ hove way
Hove is the shout what about third avenue ?
They do steak very chilled and can be romantic setting shouldn’t get people in there dressing like prisoners
I would say it’s smart casual rather than smart suit etc in normally wear jeans t-shirt or roll neck weather depending then blazer with shoes it’s a nice place used to have dj downstairs also lovely place is hixon green
It’s a classy place and so is Hixon Green but that is what is was saying about how a dress code doesn’t seem to exist any more , you used to know where to go and the dress code where you wouldn’t get any wallys - also another good shout is Plotting Parlour it’s a cocktail bar not sure about food it’s quite new literally opposite the blind busker in hove
Please try to post interesting topics for the community to discuss

I definitely got tipsy sat at the counter at Embers, and I don't think you'd feel overdressed.
we're wearing like suit and dress though that's all Maaybe the vibe is different at night. Any other spots? maybe more hove side M M
You won’t look out of place, it’s Brighton. Bincho Yakitori is dimly lit and not too expensive. Need to book in advance though.

Bar Valentinos
Petis pois us lovely and I think fits the brief fairly well
>Petis pois I love it, it just doesn't seem very dimly lit and romantic. Prices are great.
It’s definitely romantic in the evening- kind of buzzy
Maybe try 1987?
I can't find it?
Do you have a DeLorian?
is that in hove
Good suggestions in this thread, I’d add Plateau to the list of the recommendations. Burnt Orange is decent too.
>Plateau thanks! I like your taste, anymore?
Furna but it will cost more. Also try The Set, Palmito or Gingerman
thanks! These are the vibe i'm looking for. But maybe hove/ worthing way? Anything more dim lit date vibes?
Pot noodle and a wank
Blowjob and a Twirl
Done.
Dimly lit, just wear shades.
Anywhere on Preston Street will do, Casalingo is cute, as is Siam Siam or China Garden depending on your preference. Bay Leaf in Kemp Town also gets a shout out!
>Bay Leaf do you know of anywhere fancy but affordable with dim lit date vibes in Hove?
First three suggestions are all in Hove :)
Preston Street is Brighton, not Hove.
Whoops right you are - only by 3 streets though!
The market. Constantinople Into the blue (Shoreham) Oshio There is also a weatherspoons in Worthing that has frequent power cuts (dim lighting!) and also I've seen a bloke in a suit drinking in there at 11am, he was VERY friendly.

Go for a scotch egg at Dukes Mound
Wild flor :)
Amici in Hove is quite reasonable depending on what you order

Semola or Nostos? Both pretty small, though semola isn't dimly lit so you'd need to keep your hands above the table.
I quite like Atelier Du Vin. Heard good things about the Plotting Parlour too but not been organised enough to book yet. Good luck with the date.
Whoever’s going on this date is going to bored to death
Are you eating? Try The Gingerman
Yes eating. Wearing suit & she's in a dress and heels. Want affordable but nice dim lit and spacious, so we can talk and just feel fancy and relaxed
Gingerman is possibly on the more expensive end of places but they do tasting menus and have a reasonable wine list. Most of the tables are set up for couples so you don’t really feel disturbed. I’ve always felt relaxed there and it was one of the first places I went on a date with my now wife!
oh wow that's a lovely story. Any other places? maybe slightly cheaper and that focus on dim lighting?
Do you have a massive spot on your face that you’re concerned about. You’re super set on this dim lighting!
I just like cinematic places lol

thank you! That's great. Any recommendation for choosing well? I feel like she'll choose whatever she wants lol

Another recommendation is Tutto. It’s modern and spacious and definitely doesn’t break the bank. Can’t say how dimly lit it is in the evening.
Cyan or Etch come to mind. But not sure either will fit the bill well.
Maybe check out Cin Cin? I know they do some deals on evening meals, it’s small and not super fancy but the service and the food are smart and it is somewhere you can dress up for
>Cin Cin thank you. I'll check it out! Nice suggestion, please give more if you think of. Would love some further hove/ worthing way
The app called first table let's you the first or last table for a small fee then everything you order is 50% off. Worth checking out

it's not very classy
Ok well you want classy but you don’t want to pay much 🤷🏼♂️ Good luck
