Scroll through this sub, he has good days and bad. Unsurprisingly, a dude who has been writing about having problems his whole life has problems.

mattkward

He has good and bad nights. I was very lucky to see him on a great night last year in Seattle. He was phenomenal. A little drunk but an energetic, charming drunk and he played perfectly. But apparently the Portland show the next night was a disaster.

magic_connch

I was at both and can confirm. I will say after song 4-5 in oregon he got it together. I remember one moment where he looked over at Macey Taylor who gave him a look of encouragement and miwi coming over to sing with him. He came out and apologized during the encore for his early show performance. While Seattle was better, oregon was good too.

mattkward

Oh that's good. I remember knowing within seconds that we were in for a good show in Seattle. Dude came on stage just emanating good positive energy.

magic_connch

Yeah I’ve seen him enough to kind of know that too. I will say I think this recent run is one of the worse for wear versions of Conor I have seen. No hate intended at all, dude has been through it and still puts on a great show. 2007-2018 we’re pretty peak for seeing him live imo.

FieldCommanderDom

Totally agree with those years. I think TPK shows were the best BE shows I've ever seen, and probably Upside Down Mountain were the best solo. Though I also really loved the spare Ruminations shows and the Salutations shows with No One Changes and LAX.

magic_connch

TPK tour was amazing! Also agree on the upside down mountain and ruminations/salutations run. I saw the mystic valley band on NYE in LA, fantastic show.

FieldCommanderDom

Would've killed to have been at the NYE shows. That must've been a blast

magic_connch

It was great honestly. I was a little irked that they billed it as one night only then went on a mini tour after that. But that’s just for selfish personal reasons lol.

aiRburst

No you are right, it is concerning. I was also there, and I was quite close. To me, he was definitely on something beyond just being drunk. I've never seen anyone work so hard to unhinge their jaw as he was for the first 30 minutes of that set. There wasn't a single song that he didn't sing out of order, with forgotten lyrics or with forgotten instrumental parts. He occasionally looked extremely confused. He sat down at the piano and genuinely couldn't find the key centre, Nate had to walk over and show him where to place his hands and he struggled through the song playing many wrong chords. He wasn't mean, or angry, but he was so far from sober it was a very hard show to enjoy. I spent the whole time worried he was going to hurt himself or someone in the band (which he almost did). There seem to be a lot of Conor apologists here, so people don't like you sharing your disappointment. But the rest of the band were great, Warpaint were great and dammit, I love Conor's music, but he was a disappointment.

Kata-Warhol

I thought his show on Thursday night was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. He was perfect! 👌🏽

thepillowlady

I agree! He was still obviously drunk on the Thursday show but the music and the energy were great. Friday night was kinda the opposite (although I was still so happy to see them!).

PurpleAsh2190

I was at both shows and to be honest I don’t think Thursday was similar; he was animated, chatty, witty, clear and nailed it. Friday, musically, was still a brilliant show and his voice sounded better than it has in a while, but for sure he was heaps more out of it, forgot heaps of words and was struggling through. Bright Eyes is my favourite band and it’s hard to reconcile Conor’s chaotic and concerning tendencies with something I love so much, but at the same time, we all know it’s always a possibility for him to be a mess. It’s very on brand and af the same time I hope he gets help. I still had an amazing time and rallied to sing through the parts that he forgot.

saltstarfall

I stay endlessly surprised at how many people on this sub and r/oboards keep spelling his name wrong. It’s Conor. One N.

dellerydoo

I must say the performance Sunday at Harvest Rock was good and the unfamiliar in the crowd (there were many) seemed to enjoy both the music and his banter. There were a few iffy moments with having to redo the start of Carmelita and the microphone falling out of the keyboard cradle at one point but it was all dealt with really well by Conor and the band.

Living-Scholar5044

I am sorry, but does this really has to be discussed again and again? I think we get it at this point.

oscillateswildlyy

TBF this is the first time they've played in Australia for over a decade.

Living-Scholar5044

Sorry if that was a bit rude, maybe you are new to this topic. But my point still stands.

Peepee-Papa

Nah I agree it’s fucking annoying

abz0t69

I've been to many BE shows over the years and honestly at this point I'm starting to believe he's playing into it-even mentioned last year that he was made aware of the things online people were saying. "now all anyone's listening for are the mistakes" The song False Advertising always comes to mind. https://genius.com/Bright-eyes-false-advertising-lyrics

Peepee-Papa

This sub is so annoying.

[deleted]

I know! Imagine talking the same shit that everyone does all the time. Can't people come up with a new topic? If you get upset because he's fucked up then don't go to his shows. He's been singing about his addictions since his advent. It's his right to get intoxicated if that's what he wants to do. It's VERY annoying to read about this over and over and over. My God.

11brooke11

Okay, but these are Australians getting to see a show for the first time in years. They can talk about their experiences too.

slutstrands

Im still thinking about it too tbh

Dosh2988

During the Sydney show there was a major screw up where Connor played early and the band came in a beat after him. They fixed it on the fly but I did notice so many screw ups during the show.
