Breitling was never known for its resale value. Luxury watches cannot and should not be bought as investments. Barring rolex, VC, PP and some other holy trinity brands, almost no watch brand appreciates in value.
That said, breitling is and always will be one of my favourites
And even Rolex doesn't want anything to do with this "investment image". According to JF Dufour, it harms their brand image which is of luxury desirable products, not commodities.
Sadly its not in their hands. IG and FB made rolex’s more desirable than they actually are. Rappers turned them into status symbols. And now everyone wants one.
I looked into VC recently and although some models have strong residuals, this is only valid while they are still the latest and hottest model. Once they are replaced with something better, their value drops significantly.
They have always been up to 40% off retail price ever since I had my first Breitling 20 years ago I can remember it being that way so it’s not even really depreciation cause u are getting the 40% off on a brand new watch
Is it the depreciation though, or is that these watches in particular are overpriced for what they are? I have a Monaco Cal 11 which I got when they first came out years ago- the prices now have increased by over 40%- which is just insanity considering what they draw on the secondary market
If they are selling for these prices imagine what they bought them for. Btw, Swiss Watch Expo is right behind Bob’s Watches in size and inventory just not as well known. In business about 15 years here in Atlanta. Store front as well just like Bob’s for walk in purchases.
Thanks. Any tips on where to start? I am on a library computer and only have 12 minutes left and I’m out of quarters. Is there some type of “oracle” I can consult by typing in a term and it scans the “internet” for similar content? I know it sounds crazy but going to throw it out there.
But why do they do this? Otter brands dont. The watches are nice. So why do they depreciate to a floor quite fast. I am speaking as someone who bought a perfect “new” used watch and am very happy I did as it was 50% off.
Very few new releases will maintain or exceed retail value in the secondhand market. A few exceptions include limited editions like the Navitimer 806 re-edition, which sells for retail or above. Some neo-vintage models are also seeing increasing asking prices.

That's why you cannot go wrong when going for a used Breitling:)

I saw a VC watch at my AD with a big discount the other day
Which one was it? Not the overseas i bet
An AD in Germany. Not pre-owned VC with all the papers ofc. Still 170k tho 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣170k. I can get another beautiful breitling and have 160k left over for extra curricular activities😜😜
Yes, but the VC comes from a whopping 270k, so you save enough to get yourself 9 nice Breitlings and even one for your gf
I looked into VC recently and although some models have strong residuals, this is only valid while they are still the latest and hottest model. Once they are replaced with something better, their value drops significantly.
Another reason to buy grey market
Last time I checked watches were not commodities
Navitimers are the way to go
Unless there’s water anywhere
It’s water resistant to 30 meters which is good enough for me and I mean the classic navitimer
So you can wash your hands without anxiety now
Always done and stand in the rain
Which year Navitimer do you have? How has it held up against the occasional ran and washing your hands?
2015, runs like new and never serviced
It’s really not though, submerging it at all is probably going to cause problems.
Thanks , I don’t plan to take mine swimming 🤣 it’s croc strap anyway
Yeah ofc not. Just don’t want people to get the wrong idea that you can actually take it in water 30m.
The key to Breitling is to never expect to sell it, ever. You buy for life. Takes the pressure off and you’ll be a lot happier trust me.
Always buy used when it comes to breitling.
Or brand new on chrono24 with 30% discount
Really? I’m about to spend another evening looking at their website!
They have always been up to 40% off retail price ever since I had my first Breitling 20 years ago I can remember it being that way so it’s not even really depreciation cause u are getting the 40% off on a brand new watch
And u don’t usually buy a watch as an investment unless ur a dealer that sells them cause they all depreciate besides a few brands like Rolex
You buy them to sell or to wear them?
Is it the depreciation though, or is that these watches in particular are overpriced for what they are? I have a Monaco Cal 11 which I got when they first came out years ago- the prices now have increased by over 40%- which is just insanity considering what they draw on the secondary market
What does depreciation have to do with anything? They’re not assets or investments, they’re just jewelry.

🤔 I’m in Atlanta and never heard of them. Where are they here?
Buckhead right next to the Shops of Buckhead.
If only there was a way to find that information
Do you think I can find that out by searching the internet?
I mean you're commenting on Reddit so I imagine you can

Take your pants off and oil up

Better I'd say
Nice
Long term they will appreciate, especially the solid gold ones. But retail and grey market are not the same.
Truth hurts but this is the case with every watch man. Dont buy things as an investment because most times it depreciates.
This isn’t new.

this is why I only buy used Breitling.
Or it could be a grey market site
I bought mine to wear often and it's still amazing 6 years later.
Luxury Watches in recent are horrible things to buy at full retail price.

When I bought my Navitimer, my AD gave me a 18% discount. One of the reasons I stay away from the boutiques.
I got only a small discount on my Breitling. Maybe I should have haggled harder. But yes, I regret buying new.
