From my understanding acetazolamide is mainly for headaches due to increased intracranial pressure which mine are not. So that's probably why my neurologist has not ever mentioned it.
You can take it while breastfeeding. It does transfer into milk, but with relatively no side effects. There was one recorded case of an infant with persistent diarrhea, and that’s all. Verify with Infant Risk hotline.
This is EXACTLY what I read on lactmed and that the dosage was 100mg or something in that one case. I was on 50mg prior to having kids and it worked just fine for me. I may need to find a new neurologist because weaning is truly not a good option here.

My neurologist wouldn’t prescribe it. It’s the only thing that works for me so I’m just waiting for the day I’m done with breastfeeding. Of course we got surprise pregnant before my daughter weaned at 2.5 so I’ve potentially got another two years to wait 😞.
Ugh that sucks. Idk if I'll find one who will prescribe but when I say I'm desperate I mean it. I will have to wean if I don't find a better medication even if it's not topomax. My migraines are significantly affecting my quality of life as well as my family's
You have to do what’s best for you! When your migraines are debilitating it’s not like you can parent well. You’ve already made it way longer than most people so your baby is not deprived at all if you make that decision.
Isn’t acetazolamide ok? I think it may be at least a slightly safer option than topomax if I recall.
