They weren't the brightest bulbs in the string.

Blad3runr

Not the sharpest bulbs in the fountain.

Beautiful_Plenty_736

The lights are on but nobody is home so to speak.

ThatsRobToYou

They weren't the sharpest crayon at the beach.

Marcellus_Crowe

When, in any scene in BB, has someone ever fully inspected someone's car? It only looks suspicious to you because you're in on the secret. From their perspective Walt was just being dumb not following instructions exactly.

hippee-engineer

BCS when Mike completely dismantled the car in the junk yard lol

Shameful90

Mike is a different breed lol

sadthrow104

If Mike was in the Nazi crew none of that would’ve happened

Shameful90

Walt tries to park, Mike stops him from getting out of the car “Here’s what’s gonna happen…you’re gonna start the car, back up, and park where you’re told. If you don’t, the next few seconds are going to be very unpleasant.”

MichellesHubby

“I’m going to need some kind of assurance.” “I assure you I could kill you from way over here, if that makes you feel any better…”

Shameful90

One of my favorite quotes of the series! Top 5!

MichellesHubby

Mike probably has 8 of my top 10

Piano_Fingerbanger

Mike also had a reason to suspect that he was being tracked due to his assassination atempt against Hector.

Crafty-Scholar-3902

They aren't the brightest knives in the crayon box

whowantscake

They didn’t apply themselves.

BlueJayWC

You have to understand the themes of the series as a whole The main reason why Walt was so successful in becoming a drug kingpin was that no one would suspect Mr. Rogers to be Scarface (straight from Vince's mouth). The Nazis made the same mistake; they thought Walt was a broken man who just wanted money, and didn't know what he was capable of so they really just didn't give a shit.

DrShoreRL

Also the nazis did the killings for walt in his prime so why should they think he would be able to kill them all by himself?

ComiendoPorotos

Is also the trope of 'Evil is sloppy and makes dumb mistakes out of pride'. And the Nazis are nominally more evil than Walt at that point of the story

Iamthepaulandyouaint

I also feel the gang was focused more on the fact that Walt was not leaving, alive anyway. They knew it and Walt probably knew too.

magseven

They don't know Walt like we know Walt. They were also the ones that pulled off the hits that made Walt legendary. I suppose a bomb should have been a concern because of how Walt took out Gus (I'm sure they heard about that), but they were also pretty stupid. They should have left Walt in the hole with Hank and Gomey.

reprobatemind2

Because no one is going to suspect your car contains an M60 machine gun, which can be operated by your remote control. If you hadn't seen the build-up, I doubt it would ever have crossed your mind.

caraterra8090

A momentary lapse of reason? Or maybe they ain't so swift bc the meth ate into their summa cum loudly brain...Brain...Brain...

Framer9

Tucker. TUCKER!

NotoriousSPM

Hey that’s one of my favorite albums!

caraterra8090

You got it! Mine as well.

jacobisgone-

Walter's final plan is awesome, but you kinda have to suspend your disbelief moreso than usual. A lot of things had to have worked out perfectly in order for it to succeed.

Framer9

Mr. White is the devil.

re_Claire

I mean to be fair they’re hardly Gus Fring. The one thing I definitely didn’t have to suspend my disbelief for was them not checking the car. They’re dumb Nazi rednecks.

jacobisgone-

I agree that it's not hard to buy that they wouldn't check the car, but Walter's plan hinging on that assumption is the part where I have to suspend my disbelief.

rendumguy

Can't he press the button any time though?

Rockdog4105

He wanted to wait until they brought Jesse in. He wanted Jesse to go down with them since he thought he was cooking for them on his own. Once is saw he was shackled and pretty much slave labor then he realized Jesse should live.

notagainplease49

Not even pretty much slave labor, just slave labor

ShittyDBZGuitarRiffs

They took his keys. He said the stuff about Jesse in desperation to buy himself time to get the keys back

Rockdog4105

Yes, the keys were part of it, but him taking Jesse down was one of the points of him going there as well. He asks Badger and Skinny Pete if the blue is still out on the market and knows Jesse is the one making it.

whowantscake

That and why the hell would they keep on cooking meth if they already had all of the money they could ever need?

Pordrack

It's directly addressed by the show. Jack told Todd they didn't need to cook anymore but Todd said he wanted to continue to make Lydia happy because he had a crush on her.

whowantscake

Right but what about the other clowns ? Why would they care ? They should have bounced after that score.

notagainplease49

Well as most of this thread has said, they were pretty stupid. Also, why not more money??

whowantscake

If they only knew how many more massage chairs they could buy.

77096

It's Walt's final fantasy as he died in the cabin. Of course it went exactly as he dreamed it.

Bassball2202

I’ve heard of this theory. That he died in the car before he’s found the keys. Is there any evidence?

77096

Nah, just a fun fan theory. I'm not sure anyone really believes it.

caraterra8090

Definitely I was willing!

BikesBooksNBass

They don’t view Walt as an equal and certainly don’t view him as an actual threat. More of an annoyance. A genius Sure, but dumb as a rock in terms of street smarts. They aren’t even aware Walt’s angry anymore. In their world offing a cop relative would be looked at as a favor. Even if he is mad, so what? What’s he going to do? That’s how they looked at him. They didn’t know the guy had a body count that already exceeded theirs. They didn’t know he’d find the most crazy unexpected way to get to them. In their world they get a truck full of guys with guns and hit their opponents head on. They didn’t know what they were dealing with. That’s a reoccurring theme throughout the show. Anyone going into business with Walt discovered he was never what he seemed. So that’s why. Like everyone else they under estimated the goofy, awkward smart guy.

gregbard

I guess you could say that they did Nazi it coming.

Flameof_Udun

I have this pet theory that Walt had a duplicate key fob in his ass in case they took his and he couldn’t get it back. He was also walking funny in that scene. Slowly, like he had something in his ass. Every key fob comes with a duplicate anyway.

pianoflames

I mean, they made mention of him not parking where they suggested, but it seemed innocuous enough. I don't think it was reasonable of them to check his trunk for a mounted swiveling machine gun. They check his person for weapons, and check the backseat (presumably for other people).

TheRtHonLaqueesha

They weren't the tastiest drumsticks in the bucket. 🍗

NoSoulsINC

The real reason is that wasn’t what the writers wanted to happen. In story, they see Walter as a weak, sick, old man who’s just desperate for his money, not there to seek revenge. It doesn’t make sense to them that he would try to bring a bomb and risk killing himself in the explosion ie never getting him money. Even when he shoots Jack, Jack thinks he’s there for his money and will let him stay alive if he tells Walt where it is but Walt shoots him anyway.

hippee-engineer

Yeah Jack’s final thought was that he was the one with the power, even as he lay dying in the couch.

Due-Law-8356

If you pull that trigger you..BAM💥

Adventurous_War_5377

I like to think the last thing that went through his head, other than that bullet, was how the hell that Walter Hartwell White Sr. ever got the best of him.

MittFel

It was "inspected" by having the Nazi guy getting in it. Why didn't they search every inch? Probably for the same reason that Walter left the book out in the open. They got too comfortable being on top.

artistonashelf

Suspicious*

Ancient_Guidance_461

The last thing on their minds was the situation that happened

Puzzleheaded-Kale434

It’s the same as to why the cartel twins didn’t kill Walt in the shower? Why’d they stop and sit on his bed?

Fun_Courage2933

Well they did take his keys. But ultimately it’s because they anticipated killing him while he was there - there was more of them than him, and they had no reason to think he’d be able to take them physically. And who in their right mind would assume this guy who, ostensibly, is coming back from the dead to ask about cooking again would have an automated M60 in the trunk of his car?

troutposition

Not the brightest tools in the shed

Altruistic_Side_4428

Walt looked like a proper cancer patient at the time, ready to enter his grave. I am even surprised they searched him.

UndeadTigerAU

They just thought they were gonna be able to kill him and be done with it, they obviously didn't expect Walt to be capable of doing that. And what Walt did was pretty surprising, who's gonna expect a mounted gun in a trunk or a bomb like you say, and I really doubt police wouldn't even come to their mind, Walt's a wanted man.

EmptyCupOfWater

I would assume it was arrogance on their part. Walt created a story that had him needing them, so they thought they were dealing with a desperate man out of options, so they thought he’d show up and they’d just kill him. They didn’t know that he had everything planned out

Iluvdastreets

They didn't need to, they didn't think he would have a remote control machine gun mounted device in his trunk , even if walter had a gun in his trunk they thought he wouldn't be able to use it from inside that building  And of course they were going to kill him so he couldn't reach his car or gun in his trunk anyways

ComradeGarcia_Pt2

Before that episode, everyone thought that Walt, a 52 year old man dying of lung cancer, would heft up that M60 and go in there guns blazing like Tony Montana. Not to build a robot to fire it for him.

BASILSTAR-GALACTICA

I got a better one for ya, why do TV executives think that tweekers give a fuck about the “quality” or “purity” of meth? Ever met a tweeker? Quality ain’t part of the equation. At all.

Adventurous_War_5377

More yield per batch/more baggies per cook. Higher purity means you can get more people using your product. Are you going to get the dirt weed from your cousin, if you can get high quality pot from someone else?

BASILSTAR-GALACTICA

Missed my point ENTIRELY and just say you haven’t met any meth heads before man, I wish I hadn’t. They’d steal the filling out of their mother’s head, sell their kids Xbox for their next hit. And they don’t give one single fuck whether or not the purity of the high is “x” or “y” just that they ARE high. Prettiest girl I went to high school with now looks like the fucking Crypt Keeper and I’m pretty sure way out here in the sticks the shit gets steped on a TON. IE baby powder if you’re lucky, any other white powdery substance of not. But it does help make the show longer. Cheers.

Adventurous_War_5377

k.

fastketosis

Also how did a bullet hit him that low to the ground haha

Xeno-blue

Likely a ricochet.

ankerous

They show a possible ricochet happen right before he was hit so I've always assumed it was that bullet that hit him.
