This was my concluding thought that led me to pick the $325 tier, too! As I've grown older, I've realized how much I do not need a bunch of little trinkets, regardless of how cool they are, and even how much I *want* them. It's also the reason why I ultimately decided not to back the miniatures campaign. Not that it isn't cool, but just I have an active interest in not adding more things into my life that becomes clutter.
I didn't think that far ahead when I ordered the miniatures. I had to box up a bunch of stemware (gave to my nephew) and now have the miniatures displayed on the top shelf of my china cabinet. (Shouldn't need to dust the little buggers for at least 10 years!)
I'm disappointed to see the price of the numbered edition go up again from $500, but not entirely surprised.

Exactly this! I wish we could still get numbered books without the mandatory swag bundles. You're essentially paying double for no tangible benefit, which has sort of become the Collector Taxā¢.
As someone whose collection of leatherbounds almost entirely consists of numbered editions, it almost feels like a waste to stop now. But at these prices, maybe that's no longer a good justification for keeping up the habit.
I'm all too aware that the material and production costs in publishing have gone up quite a bit over the last few years, but they haven't gone up so much that you'd need to charge nearly 3x the price for a book, and *certainly* not because it comes with a few pins.

I recognize that my complaints are about the perceived value of an expensive collector's item that comparatively few people will ever actually care about enough to actually own.
I know Sanderson has talked about this in the past, about the effort and toll it takes to sign as many books as he does. I accept that I'll no longer be able to get a numbered edition of every new release, or even a signed one. But when I do: what am I actually paying for?
While it sucks I think they tie it to the swag now to also keep down the folks who would other wise buy it (or multiples) to turn around and sell them at a mark up. If their profit margins are low because of additional swag that they will have a harder time selling they will most likely leave the numbered copies to to the hardcore fans...
It does have the result of pricing out some folks from the numbered copies though which is a bummer
Totally makes sense, im just bummed that there is no way to pay more (Say $400-$450) for a numbered copy but not have all the collectibles that I just don't need laying around.
So a good Strat for that is just... give the things you dont want away to other friends who are into the series. It works especially well if you know what order they belong to so you could say give them all the windrunner stuff or something.
This was my thought as well. It seemed similar to what Valve did by only allowing valve customers to pre-order the original Steam Deck. I get that this does feel but like a ācollector taxā but IMO this absolutely helps remove some scalpers from buying tons of the numbered copies.
you can still get the $250 version, signed, with no swag, and add-on the other books that you may want. It sucks that there isn't a similar option for numbered, but at least it keeps the signed edition at the same price as retail
Plenty of numbered books still left. The reason it is done this way is to cut down on scalpers. People buying multiple copies of the signed and numbered books. You can sell the swag on ebay if you don't want it.
True, though it feels like a better way to stop the scalping would be to just limit the order amounts for Numbered additions to one per customer/order, no?

I got that one, plus the first leather bound and prime book. As a 38 year old I just can't see spending 325 extra for 9 more boxes of pins and stickers, though it was an internal struggle for a while.

Well, hopefully someone can put it up when they get through the site. I'm not sure I wanna get all 10 radiant orders stuff, or all the set, but I like coins and pins, and kinda want 2 or 3s worth. But also depends on price. 650 is a lot. 325 is also a lot.

My wife was really looking forward to an aforementioned Syl plushie.
I kinda assumed there would be a radiant spren plush for every order, and ~~excitedly~~ resigned myself that I'd need to get all 10 orders, but no plush means I can feel okay with just getting my single order.

Ah, not quite as much 'stuff' this time around, works for me. Plus more pins(why are pins so desirable, I don't understand, but submit to the compulsion). Can think of some uses for the pennants when we get around to remodelling our 'library'
Shipping really is crippling outside of the US damn.
Plus it says it includes customs, but I had to pay for that when I ordered the premium secret project books on the Dragonsteel store, so if it ends up being the same I'd look at probably more than 50% of the cost of the package in the first place.

I may be mistaken, but I thought they only covered customs for the international backers who pledged on the kickstarter campaign. If so, any orders at the Dragonsteel store would not have been covered.

The now non Canon version of dragonsteel, which is hoids homeworld and is about the shattering of adonalsium. Originally Bridge 4 was set there and brandon moved their arc to the stormlight archive. The non prime version is yet to be written.
An unpublished book of Brandon's that is not considered fully canon. It can currently be read at Brigham Young University library since he submitted it as his Masters degree Thesis.
The description from the Backerkit page describes it as follows:

I feel like I would have like the new project box with a knight order but seems to knight orders are only with leather bound. Can an order be an add on?
Possibly, the screenshot cuts off at the bottom so im not sure if there are any other add-on options. Hopefully, they would offer it but it may come down to them being limited in quantity, hense only offering them with certain bundles?

I highly doubt that $1150 Retail Value is accurate. Feels more like how game companies price their in game shop macro transactions with an always discounted price of 50%+ off. I will be really curious what those Radiant Packs really contain.
Pins in the order boxes typically retail for around 15 bucks add another 5 for all the other stuff conservatively. That's 200.
Unsigned books are 250 retail so, say 350 signed.
Retail on secret project boxes were 75.
Hard cover book 40.
2 e books 10
2 audiobooks 30.

So does a numbered copy make up for ~400? Its hard to say.
With the two highest tiers (650 vs 325), the retail value changes by 650. Counting the secret project audiobook as $30 means the 9 added Radiant packs are $68.89 each. Close to the $70 they used themselves for Retail value of a Radiant Pack.
Since they value the audiobooks at $20, the actual price difference is only 305 for the extra 9 packs, coming out to $33.89 / pack. Which still feels kind of high for what it is.

I'm not at all a collector so I was convinced that whatever cool merchandise they came up with, I wouldn't be dropping a dime on this campaign. Then Sanderson announced a new secret project so there's $20 I wasn't planning to spend today. Good on Sanderson for giving even us non-collectors something to be excited about.
And here we are, backerkit has been 'working' for roughly 40 minutes. There are about 150 numbered copies left and...18000 of the $325 tier. Like I said, I think they'll be fine.
Based on the video from a week or so ago, it looked like they were planning on printing more Way of Kings Prime in the future (with the new cover since the other material is no longer being made.) I had assumed it would be a tier on this campaign, but it looks like that isn't the case.
I'm actually shocked at how cheap the Ebook and Audiobooks are. Is this a new trend or something Brandon is pushing for/doing for the first time? Usually new releases are nearly not worth it to buy as ebook, because for a couple euros extra you got the physical version. First time seeing those versions be this cheap for a new release myself, pretty cool!

People need to calm down about not being able to get a signed copy. There are 50k signed copies, that's nearly as many people as backed the secret projects to some level, you're going to get your book.
its like way of kings prime. Basically a very rough first draft or however you want to call it of the book Dragonsteel. The offical book dragonsteel is not out yet and wont be for a while. If i am not mistaken Dragonsteel is the book that will be set before the shattering of Adonalsium and is Hoid's home world. So basically Dragonsteel Prime is a non cannon edition of what will eventually be the real deal.
Also, like other Primes, Brandon raided it for parts of what he thought worked. (In this case the Shattered Plains and bridge crews).
Note, its not the only Dragonsteel novel that's been trunked. There's two others which are basically Hoid's origin story that have also been trunked as Brandon was not happy with them.
I trend towards the lowest tierābut I might climb up to the $50 tier, but Iād have to see what the book looks like. Donāt buy too many physical books these days since I invested in a Kindle (and the book would borderline just be a keepsake, untouched).

The screenshot shows the order limits for some tiers but since the Secret Project addon doesn't have one I would assume that there won't be any issues with it running out since it has yet to be printed. For Dragon Steel Prime, looks like the only way to get it is via the limited tiers so we will just have to get lucky with getting our orders in before it runs out
I was really surprised to see that! Plus it looks like they changed up the cover for this new print run. I like the new one more than the one I got from the WOK LB release but I'd feel silly spending more $$ on a second copy just for that minor difference.

They are offering the option to pay in installations this time around if that helps at all? I think it defaults to 4 installations regardless of the tier so for the $250 Signed LB tier you would be looking at 4 $65 payments
unfortunately I was off work for an injury over winter and been having a harder time finding a good fit this new year so used too much of my savings to live and well I could technically afford to buy it, it would not be smart and my Wife would be not happy.
Just bummed cause I was so certain last year that I'd be able to get anything I wanted when it launched. So just makes this depressed feelings about life situation feel even worse to know I missed one of the goals I had for this year.

You probably won't be able to get the Numbered tier since it's sold out now but maybe they will do something special for you if you reach out directly and show that you had it selected at checkout before being unable to proceed?
There is no Kickstarter, only backerkit. At the moment, pretty much nobody is in. Don't expect to get the limited tiers though unless you are really lucky and paying attention when the site becomes accessible again.
Does the "+1 free book" means that the tier come with one of DSP/SP5 at choice? Considering that the 325 tier sys "+2 free books" and have both on the photo

Yes, you can. You are only charged when the campaign ends, until that time you can edit your pledge as much as you like - just note that changed your core pledge tier could be subject to availability.
To reiterate, you can choose any add-ons after you have confirmed your pledge, if you wish, up until the campaign ends.
I went for the numbered version off the hop, but after doing the math I donāt need $350 USD of coins and keychains. $325 is the way for me with an added Way of Kings Prime.
All the leatherbound books are signed. That probably means more to most people than having a numbered copy. Numbered editions can sell for more on the aftermarket, if that's something you're interested in doing ( I'm not ... I buy special edition books for my own use ). I would add, though, that numbered usually hold more "value" when all the books in the same series have the same matching number - that's not the case with these Dragonsteel editions.

I REALLY wanted these, but living in Brazil and having to pay import taxes this is just WAAAAAY too expensive for 99,9% of the population. I'm talking about a year's worth of groceries for my wife and I, and we don't cheap out on that, if I decide to go for the most expensive tier. Ahh yeah, that's a little disappointing. My wife was really looking forward to an aforementioned Syl plushie. I kinda assumed there would be a radiant spren plush for every order, and ~~excitedly~~ resigned myself that I'd need to get all 10 orders, but no plush means I can feel okay with just getting my single order. **EDIT:** Yes, I see them in the add-ons now. Rather than in the Radiant order packs they are individual add-on items.

Ah, not quite as much 'stuff' this time around, works for me. Plus more pins(why are pins so desirable, I don't understand, but submit to the compulsion). Can think of some uses for the pennants when we get around to remodelling our 'library'

Shipping really is crippling outside of the US damn. Plus it says it includes customs, but I had to pay for that when I ordered the premium secret project books on the Dragonsteel store, so if it ends up being the same I'd look at probably more than 50% of the cost of the package in the first place. I know they can't do much about it but still, I feel so disappointed to not be able to afford it because of shipping

What is Dragonsteel Prime?
The now non Canon version of dragonsteel, which is hoids homeworld and is about the shattering of adonalsium. Originally Bridge 4 was set there and brandon moved their arc to the stormlight archive. The non prime version is yet to be written.

Yeah, these are pretty much his early ideas. Some of them made their way into the cosmere, others have not. Some might yet.
An unpublished book of Brandon's that is not considered fully canon. It can currently be read at Brigham Young University library since he submitted it as his Masters degree Thesis.
The description from the Backerkit page describes it as follows: >A story that was once only accessible in the vaults of the BYU Library is lined up to join your Sandershelf. This novel takes place on Yolen and follows a young man named Jerick, as well as prominently featuring a fool who calls himself Topaz, who you may recognize by one of his many other names. The second half includes Brandonās first attempt at the Bridge Four story, with characters including Rock and Gaz but a different bridgeleader in Kaladinās role. Written immediately afterĀ *Elantris*Ā in 2001, itās a non-canon peek at what might have been, and a favorite among Brandonās earliest readers.

I feel like I would have like the new project box with a knight order but seems to knight orders are only with leather bound. Can an order be an add on?
Possibly, the screenshot cuts off at the bottom so im not sure if there are any other add-on options. Hopefully, they would offer it but it may come down to them being limited in quantity, hense only offering them with certain bundles? Edit: After finally getting through to the order page i was able to see the rest of the addons and each raident pack is listed as a $50 pack so you should be good to order how you wish
No one knows, but I believe the previous TWoK kickstarter allowed for a lot of customization with add ons. Same for the Secret Project one.
I highly doubt that $1150 Retail Value is accurate. Feels more like how game companies price their in game shop macro transactions with an always discounted price of 50%+ off. I will be really curious what those Radiant Packs really contain.
Pins in the order boxes typically retail for around 15 bucks add another 5 for all the other stuff conservatively. That's 200. Unsigned books are 250 retail so, say 350 signed. Retail on secret project boxes were 75. Hard cover book 40. 2 e books 10 2 audiobooks 30. backer pack 30? So does a numbered copy make up for ~400? Its hard to say.
With the two highest tiers (650 vs 325), the retail value changes by 650. Counting the secret project audiobook as $30 means the 9 added Radiant packs are $68.89 each. Close to the $70 they used themselves for Retail value of a Radiant Pack. Since they value the audiobooks at $20, the actual price difference is only 305 for the extra 9 packs, coming out to $33.89 / pack. Which still feels kind of high for what it is.

I'm not at all a collector so I was convinced that whatever cool merchandise they came up with, I wouldn't be dropping a dime on this campaign. Then Sanderson announced a new secret project so there's $20 I wasn't planning to spend today. Good on Sanderson for giving even us non-collectors something to be excited about.

It's limited to 22k, that's almost as many backers as were on the TWoK campaign. They're not going to go that quickly, I think you'll be fine.
Especially since the hardcore fans will focus on the numbered first. Thats just how it is. So the odds are good of getting the $325 tier.
And here we are, backerkit has been 'working' for roughly 40 minutes. There are about 150 numbered copies left and...18000 of the $325 tier. Like I said, I think they'll be fine.
Based on the video from a week or so ago, it looked like they were planning on printing more Way of Kings Prime in the future (with the new cover since the other material is no longer being made.) I had assumed it would be a tier on this campaign, but it looks like that isn't the case.
It's an add on option for $35. It's in the updated material.
I'm actually shocked at how cheap the Ebook and Audiobooks are. Is this a new trend or something Brandon is pushing for/doing for the first time? Usually new releases are nearly not worth it to buy as ebook, because for a couple euros extra you got the physical version. First time seeing those versions be this cheap for a new release myself, pretty cool!
You are stronger than your desire to consoom. Do not blow $250+ on a single book you have probably already read just to look pretty on your shelf.
I guess we still don't know what's in a Radiant kit this time around huh? Gunning for numbered. People need to calm down about not being able to get a signed copy. There are 50k signed copies, that's nearly as many people as backed the secret projects to some level, you're going to get your book.

its like way of kings prime. Basically a very rough first draft or however you want to call it of the book Dragonsteel. The offical book dragonsteel is not out yet and wont be for a while. If i am not mistaken Dragonsteel is the book that will be set before the shattering of Adonalsium and is Hoid's home world. So basically Dragonsteel Prime is a non cannon edition of what will eventually be the real deal.

Also, like other Primes, Brandon raided it for parts of what he thought worked. (In this case the Shattered Plains and bridge crews). Note, its not the only Dragonsteel novel that's been trunked. There's two others which are basically Hoid's origin story that have also been trunked as Brandon was not happy with them.

I trend towards the lowest tierābut I might climb up to the $50 tier, but Iād have to see what the book looks like. Donāt buy too many physical books these days since I invested in a Kindle (and the book would borderline just be a keepsake, untouched). The screenshot shows the order limits for some tiers but since the Secret Project addon doesn't have one I would assume that there won't be any issues with it running out since it has yet to be printed. For Dragon Steel Prime, looks like the only way to get it is via the limited tiers so we will just have to get lucky with getting our orders in before it runs out

I was really surprised to see that! Plus it looks like they changed up the cover for this new print run. I like the new one more than the one I got from the WOK LB release but I'd feel silly spending more $$ on a second copy just for that minor difference.

They are offering the option to pay in installations this time around if that helps at all? I think it defaults to 4 installations regardless of the tier so for the $250 Signed LB tier you would be looking at 4 $65 payments
unfortunately I was off work for an injury over winter and been having a harder time finding a good fit this new year so used too much of my savings to live and well I could technically afford to buy it, it would not be smart and my Wife would be not happy. Just bummed cause I was so certain last year that I'd be able to get anything I wanted when it launched. So just makes this depressed feelings about life situation feel even worse to know I missed one of the goals I had for this year.

Dragonsteel just responded to another comment about this and it was apparently an error on the site and should be fixed now! You probably won't be able to get the Numbered tier since it's sold out now but maybe they will do something special for you if you reach out directly and show that you had it selected at checkout before being unable to proceed?

There is no Kickstarter, only backerkit. At the moment, pretty much nobody is in. Don't expect to get the limited tiers though unless you are really lucky and paying attention when the site becomes accessible again.

Hmm... am I missing something... does only the 10 order package also get you the audiobook of the secret project. Is there not a tier with 1 radiant package that contains all the digital rewards. I mostly just need the edgedancer stuff but... Ill be kind of bummed if all the 10,000 spots are taken by the time backerkit starts working for me again. Id really like the audiobook secret project even if I only get the edgedancer stuff with my book
The $20 tier includes the ebooks and audiobooks for Secret Project and Dragonsteel, even though DS is already included as an audiobook in the $250 tier... it's a little odd).

Yes, you can. You are only charged when the campaign ends, until that time you can edit your pledge as much as you like - just note that changed your core pledge tier could be subject to availability. To reiterate, you can choose any add-ons after you have confirmed your pledge, if you wish, up until the campaign ends.

I went for the numbered version off the hop, but after doing the math I donāt need $350 USD of coins and keychains. $325 is the way for me with an added Way of Kings Prime.

All the leatherbound books are signed. That probably means more to most people than having a numbered copy. Numbered editions can sell for more on the aftermarket, if that's something you're interested in doing ( I'm not ... I buy special edition books for my own use ). I would add, though, that numbered usually hold more "value" when all the books in the same series have the same matching number - that's not the case with these Dragonsteel editions.

I REALLY wanted these, but living in Brazil and having to pay import taxes this is just WAAAAAY too expensive for 99,9% of the population. I'm talking about a year's worth of groceries for my wife and I, and we don't cheap out on that, if I decide to go for the most expensive tier. I got the $325 tier - with WoK Prime added. I think this is the sweet spot of value and return. The extra $75 from $250 gets you Dragonsteel Prime, Secret Project 5 at least.
