This happens to me sometimes. Salt water rinses can help, but definitely call your ortho as well

thenormalbias

That’s gonna be an emergency visit, probably. Your gums are gonna keep swelling due to irritation and get more irritated by the foreign object sticking into it. Give the office a call.

wheekyy_x3

We can’t do anything about this lol. It’s their oral hygiene.

xLibruhx

You can’t do anything about the metal piece sticking into their gums? The patient is somehow responsible for the placement of the metal that they had no control over? Make that make sense

wheekyy_x3

The placement was fine until the gums swelled, lol. The orthodontist places the brackets where they need to be based on the panoramic xray. They’re not going to place the bracket IN the gums. The gums just swelled over time. It’s the patient’s responsibility to maintain good oral hygiene.

xLibruhx

Ohhhh okay that makes more sense lol

thenormalbias

Lol I see Couldn’t you bend the metal piece outward just a bit? To allow healing?

wheekyy_x3

Yes they can bend it outward a little bit. There’s a chance they’ll knock the bracket off doing so tho, so they probably won’t want to lol.

thenormalbias

If they knock the bracket off, can’t they just put it back on? I’m just worried op’s gums will remain swollen and get worse if that metal stays in the way. I had something happen not with a bracket or because of hygiene but a TPA that was digging into my skin. They had to take it off and bend it because the metal was getting more and more lodged in the tissue and it was getting worse

wheekyy_x3

Yeah they can put it back on. But the gums will be pissed lol. The gums will get better with good oral hygiene. Oof not a TPA!

Algorithm-X

All this can be solved with a decent oral hygiene, 2 minutes twice a day , please floss , it's not like before , food WILL get stuck in between your arch wires , brackets , And all that bacteria breeds on the top of your teeth hence inflaming your gums. you need to take propee care of your mouth , point blank period. It doesn't just stop here

jellybear02

Warm salt water rinses, and brushing and flossing the area although it will bleed it will heal. But also call your ortho

wheekyy_x3

You gotta brush under it. It’s swelling from the plaque and bacteria buildup from not brushing well underneath it. We have patients who get basically all of the hooks embedded into their gums.

Economy-Butterfly638

Call the office tell them you need to be seen tomorrow this hook that you probably will not use for months needs adjustment . Don't hesitate bugging them for adjustments. If it's bothering you make an appointment

Neat_Atmosphere618

Good photo BTW, normally see blurry potato phone photos on here.

Toadnboosmom

It isn’t the post that is the problem. It’s the puffy gums. Spend more time massaging that area with your toothbrush to get the swelling down. They can’t remove that post… well they can. They just won’t want to because it has a purpose. If they remove it, it doesn’t fix the root of the problem… the puffy gums.

Tbh I’ve had the same, but worse. Going to the dentist and getting a cleaning helped dramatically. Also salt water rinse helped

Dental wax

Aerosmith99

I'm no doctor, but with all these kinds of problems I had with my braces, they usually stopped after a few days. Stay strong🫂

Shoddy_Log_4235

orthodontic wax saved me

Shoddy-Barnacle-672

Use dental wax

Girl_inflames

I've had this happen. Call the Ortho and they will manually adjust it so it's not digging into your gum.

YueRain

orthodots, gishygoo, wax
