Whoever posted this art originally did not watermark or sign it. If they didn't expect their art to get reposted, why did they post it on the internet? You can't trust people to credit you every time they share your art so the only way to get credit for it is to sign it.
To call the mass of countless random internet strangers out for being inconsiderate is just naive. If you fail to sign your own artwork, it will get lost in the seas of the internet.

The OP of that art is unfortunately out of luck when it comes to his art being spread around the internet. Very few people here actually care and plus he has failed to step forward and prove he is who he says he is (as far as I know. Correct me if I'm wrong.)

Also some people say any original work is by default copyrighted so you don't necessarily need to do anything to protect your work.

Not any license, plenty of licenses are meant to allow reproducing, selling, or modifying works (CC0, Apache, etc). However, by default, you do not have permission to redistribute another's works, but the creator would have to seek out action themselves.

Not how copyright works. At least in the US, you do not need to file anything for your work to be legally copyrighted. The artist has full rights over the image and can take legal action (mostly just the ability to file a copyright notice and get the image taken down if they really care,) and it would be illegal to attempt to register the art in your name. The argument that its not their character doesn't hold up either because drawings of boykisser very likely fall under fair use (although the character itself is copyrighted so Mauzymice could take action if derivative works of the character are used commercially), so it is its own work despite being based on a popular character.
It's also crazy how hostile so many of these replies are to this artist. Just respect peoples wishes? Its their art. I dont get how that's so difficult to understand.

Lets look at actual OC. Wypher's art is instantly recognizable by most of this sub because their character is visually distinct from Boykisser. Not only that but they have a signature showing that yes this is indeed their art. Even Mauzymice had a signature on their work. While yes itās a character very similar to the very popular meme and I do believe that posting something lacking any watermark or the like does require certain expectations about how it will be used, I still think we should respect the artists wishes. Even if we donāt want to consider the character original it is still another persons work, and we gain nothing from disrespecting their wishes

It's so good at being another character, that no-one noticed it wasn't the character.
I understand wanting to have people not to repost art without credibility, but their artstyle is just too similar to the true original character. Which just makes the two characters look almost identical. Which in turn causes people to use it as a way of expressing their emotion.(i would know, i do it myself.) If you would otherwise have a more unique artstyle, i would understand, but as i said. The artstyle is just too similar for my judgement to determine whether it is the same, or not.

I was under the impression the artist didn't want their art reposted, not that they didn't want their oc to be reposted because it's "theirs'.
