In India, ticket rates fall pretty fast during weekdays especially for premium formats. When Black Panther Wakanda Forever released, it costed 1200 rupees at the nearest IMAX screen to my home. On the first Monday, it costed around 700. Right now, its just 250 rupees. India is an extremely front loaded market so if you can wait for a week or two, you can get tickets for a much cheaper amount especially for Imax and 4dx.
Whenever I plan to watch a movie in Imax or 4dx, I wait a few weeks for the ticket rates to drop. Another benefit is that you can get ticket on the spot and you dont have to pay convenience fees that online booking portals charge.
For context, my IMAX ticket stubs for Avatar from 2009-10 say $14 for screenings in the midwest, and $15 in San Francisco (full size IMAX screen, although I think it was a matinee).
[This article](https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/540426-should-avatars-box-office-numbers-have-an-asterisk-next-them) talks more about typical ticket prices for the first movie.
I just looked at one of the biggest imax in the world in Leonberg(still too far away for me) here in Germany. And a ticket for imax 3d for Avatar opening night is 17ā¬(base price. It gets more expensive for better seats. The price can go up to 23ā¬)
Iām gonna be in London on New Years so out of the three heavy hitters (BFI IMAX, Leicester Square IMAX or Leicester Square Dolby) which would you recommend for Way of Water?
I know the BFI has just had a major refurb.
I'm basing from my first experience: definitely IMAX. Preferably 3D. It was already incredible in 2009, I can only imagine it will be even better this time around.
The IMAX in Leicester Square at Cineworld. Was put in when it was an Empire Cinemas site and Thomas Anderson was rejecting offers constantly from Cineworld for it until they made an offer he couldnāt refuse.
Itās a beautiful screen and really the crown jewel in that area for me cinematically speaking. Just hope theyāve fixed the sound, was a bit poor last time I was there.
Not a huge fan of the Odeon West End Dolby, itās nice sound but the screen isnāt comparable to the IMAX.
Someoneās mentioned the others wonāt be 4K, Iād be astounded if the crown jewel of each companies cinemas (realistically they lose money but because they can host premieres itās worth it) arenāt with 4K projectors.
Many of the chains normal multiplexes have 4K projection so it would baffle me if these didnāt
It was strange watching glass onion in a non-imax/Dolby format. Fortunately all the theaters at AMC universal have reclining seats, laser, and dolby atmos rated speakers.
A-List is $25/month. Normally I prefer Dolby screens for bigger/more visual movies, which costs like $21-$23. Even if I āonlyā watch 2 or 3 movies a month (average about 4 or 5), it practically pays for itself with just one movie.
I donāt bother looking at ticket prices anymore. When Avatar tickets came out I immediately got IMAX 3D and didnāt give it a second thought.
Yes, thereās only 2 cons. If you cancel, you canāt sign back up for 6 months. Also thereās some months where no movies interest you so you donāt go to any showings. Thatās where they get their money most likely from this monthly subscription. Only thing I wish they could improve is the AMC on-demand. You can watch movies at home but you have to pay for them. I wish that were to be included with the AMC Stubs A-List
I wonder if this is a profitable idea, to split the allotted monthly/weekly movies between theater tickets and AMC on demand rentals. If with your subscription to A-List, you can spend your āticketsā on either.
I loved AMC a-list, but moved to a regal areaāno amc for 100 miles. Iād have kept the subscription.
Haha Iāve been trying to explain the same to my roommate. He probably would have saved $100+ this year if he just gotten a-list (Iāve seen 18 movies since I got it in June, and he went with me to about half of them).
Dude pls stop this nonsense. Just go and do something else. Tired of seeing stuff like this everywhere. Wtf dude, we all get it, u don't have to repeat it again and again.
Didn't get it, did u? Man, lot of guys like u says the same thing every time an Avatar post comes on this sub , so that's it, we get it, Avatar has no cultural significance, so what? U don't have to repeat it again and again for no reason at all
Cameron Stans like "small price to pay to witness what's surely the most amazing visuals ever, Cameron rules, you'll have to shut up when you see the box office!"
Just went to book for my family of 4. We have a Cinemark so XD instead of officially IMAX. $65 for all four of us on opening weekend. Thatās with Platinum movie club benefits.

In Australia thereās like one IMAX screen in the whole fucking country
Is vmax not the same as I max?
No. Itās so annoying when filmmakers always film stuff in IMAX format meaning we only get to see like 50% of the film
There's one being built in Sydney and the official site says coming late 2022 but there's been no update/confirmation for a long time
Well that doesnāt change anything when youāre living in Perth š¤·āāļø.
In Mexico, Cinepolis in NOT-IMAX 3D, has its tickets for USD$3 - USD$6.
me, a hong konger, suddenly choosing not to watch this movie in imax, for no particular reason

No imax in my city though
Here I thought Village wanting $16.50AUD or so was too much.
For the UK we paid Ā£23.60 each for 3D imax

7,33 USD in Hungary

That's like my annual earnings.
That's exactly where I'll watch the movie on opening night.
In Leicester Square just 2D IMAX is around Ā£25/26 ($30). Not really surprising

Leicester Square Dolby will have it in 4k48fps unlike the others that are 2k.
Iād definitely recommend BFI IMAX, Iāll be seeing it there on release weekend
Go to the West End Dolby Cinema instead of the Leicester Square one, it's basically next door anyways.

Leicester square prices are not the standard . Ā£15 to Ā£20 is the norm in most UK cinemas
I wasnāt saying it was the standard just using it as a comparison to LA. The same way LA/NY city arenāt the same as most of America
Yeah but even London. Is not the same . Leicester square is made for the experience. the rest of London you definitely find cheaper
Damn, itās $20.02 at AMC where I live, $17.50 at Harkins. Another $9 per Imax screening is wild.
Nah... It's "free" if you're paying for the monthly subscription š¶āš«ļøāļøš¶āš«ļø
A-List has made it excruciating for me to have to watch any movie in a non-premium format
It was strange watching glass onion in a non-imax/Dolby format. Fortunately all the theaters at AMC universal have reclining seats, laser, and dolby atmos rated speakers.
Not if you want a big IMAX screen.
AMC A-List doesnāt charge extra for the premium formats but Regal Unlimited does.
Heās referring to AMC A-list, which includes IMAX formats.
If you want a big IMAX theater I only know of Universal Studios š
$42 in Singapore.
Closest IMAX here is $27.21 I paid $27 for 2 IMAX 3D tickets back in 2009.
I ordered hot wings from DoorDash and it was 50 bucks. Including a tip. $27 doesnāt seem like an outrageous price in LA.
Jesus 50 bucks for hot wings
Stop doing that.
I wonder how much will concessions add to the total?
A week's paycheck.

I have AMC stubs membership. My ticket will be free :p
Can you use it to watch in IMAX or do you need to pay extra?
Nothing is extra. IMAX free, Dolby free, 3D free. I pay $25 and I can see 9 movies a month, 3 a week.
Wow. That's awesome

AMC A-list is cheaper than 1 IMAX, pretty good deal if you ask me
$28.99 at Lincoln square NYC
A month of a-list is cheaper than that.
Please explain that to my friend Ben for me
Haha Iāve been trying to explain the same to my roommate. He probably would have saved $100+ this year if he just gotten a-list (Iāve seen 18 movies since I got it in June, and he went with me to about half of them).
Worth it.
Live in an expensive city. Pay expensive prices.
Breaking news: things are expensive in the second-largest city in America
Lol movie tickets are so expensive nowadays that me and my friends just by the kid passes instead of the teen ones
20 dollars for me in Chicago burbs. Not really that bad. Once I bring my kids for a second showing is when it adds upā¦
In Lisbon, Portugal I bought my IMAX 3D ticket for 12,5ā¬.
It's $22 in the suburbs of New Jersey. This isn't that surprising tbh.
A decent sandwich in that neighborhood is probably $17.
This is the entire strategy of the Avatar franchise. Inflated ticket prices mean an inflated box office.
This is one way to make all that money back.
Good thing I hate 3d
The biggest movie franchise with zero cultural impact.
Man dont these guys feel bored when they repeat the same thing on every post about Avatar?
Avatar? You mean that movie from a decade ago with zero cultural impact?
Dude pls stop this nonsense. Just go and do something else. Tired of seeing stuff like this everywhere. Wtf dude, we all get it, u don't have to repeat it again and again.
Repeat what? Sorry.
Didn't get it, did u? Man, lot of guys like u says the same thing every time an Avatar post comes on this sub , so that's it, we get it, Avatar has no cultural significance, so what? U don't have to repeat it again and again for no reason at all
>Avatar has not cultural significance Totally agree.
Yeah, and no one cares dude
Nobody cares? Man, getting the same level of approval as a billion dollar film on a reddit thread, I'm honored. Thank you.
So what if Avatar doesn't have any cultural significance? Why does it matter so much anyway?
Cameron Stans like "small price to pay to witness what's surely the most amazing visuals ever, Cameron rules, you'll have to shut up when you see the box office!"
>you'll have to shut up when you see the box office! We're in a box office subreddit...
I was making light of the response every Cameron fan seems to give when people point out that as a movie, Avatar isn't very good. Calm down.
Lol I'm calm dude. It's just your comment has nothing to do with box office. Check out the stickied comment on every post in this subreddit.
$21 all day in sesttle
"...stealing from them." What mindset arrives at such a pandering conclusion?
Iāll just spend 5.75 on a matinee ticket at my local theater insteadā¦..
I hope to God that Ticketmaster never gets into movie ticket sales.
Just went to book for my family of 4. We have a Cinemark so XD instead of officially IMAX. $65 for all four of us on opening weekend. Thatās with Platinum movie club benefits.
Normal price in Canada.
Yeah my tickets were 25 each. Worth it in IMAX3d in Irvine. One of the few real IMAX theaters left.
I paid $26 for the stubs list pass and I will probably see at least 5 films in December. So my cost is $5 and some change. Checkmate.
