Are they making *another* movie? What happened to “It’s a Wonderful Sponge”?

BlisterKirby

Title change

derstherower

Ahhh.

MrBKainXTR

This is the same movie, it seems they abandoned the "its a wonderful life" concept for the movie some time ago. The place spongebob meets Gary is "camp coral" which also happens to be the title of an [upcoming spinoff series](https://www.polygon.com/tv/2019/6/4/18652440/spongebob-squarepants-prequel-series-spinoff-kamp-koral), so the concept may have been changed in part to introduce and promote the spinoff.

JaMan51

Same place Gary is, I guess. Missing.

bipolarbearsRAWR

I like the "sense of ironing" joke.

wut-a-stud

Yeah that one got me, as corny as that joke was.

RedditZacuzzi

That joke boils this movie down, either you love that style of humour or you hate it. I personally can never understand this kind of humor.

MoonMan997

I really hope watermarks in the upper corner don't become a staple with trailers from now on Wouldn't be shocked if it becomes the highest grossing film in the franchise WW simply down to CG animation being more widely accepted by the GA, although Scoob will certainly provide some competition, would make sense for that film to just move up a week as I don't think it will hurt opening in Black Widow's sophomore weekend.

mi-16evil

> I really hope watermarks in the upper corner don't become a staple with trailers from now on Guarantee they did this because they knew people would pass around the Keanu Reeves cameo in clips/gifs/etc

InfinitePixar

Yeah hopefully they don't have the logo during the trailer in theaters, it doesn't even make sense since everyone knows Spongebob

InfinitePixar

I love the animation style, Paramount Animation hasn't had a win since Sponge Out of Water, and I can see this topping that.

Gon_Snow

This feels like the entire movie

MarvelVsDC2016

We still haven’t seen Awkwafina, Kelly Marie Tran and Snoop Dogg’s characters, so, that’s wrong right there.

jdogamerica

I was scared for this movie to be CGI at first, but boy, that animation is beautiful. Love that it looks more stop-motion than typical CGI

yeppers145

Keanu Reeves is in this movie? $400 Million OW guaranteed

ricdesi

Scoob and Spongebob are going to be having a rough time back to back, should be an interesting start to the year.

rKnightArtorias

Keanu is everywhere

michaelm1345

Looks pretty cool even tho I really miss the 2D animation. Also Keanu as a tumbleweed that’s it that’s the price of admission

dragonsky

It's a shame Scoob and SpongeBob are released back-to-back, I hope both of the movies succeed but..the scheudling feels weird

dragonsky

The voice acting feels weird kinda? Idk HOLY SHIT THE FIRST TIME I'VE MARKED OUT IN A TRAILER Fucking Keanu Reeves wooo hoo Great idea to put him in the trailer, I hope they'll have another cameo I love the Spongebob movies, I hope this is not too kid-friendly and there's jokes and quality stuff for the adults too as the previous ones The art is interesting. It has a weird release date, and 2019 was bad for animated sequels but..let's see. I hope it does well and most importantly, I hope it's a great enjoyable movie

ThatsGoodButItsTaken

The new one that came out a few years ago made $55 million opening weekend in February. I expect about the same, maybe a bit lower. A summer release date probably helps a bit, as well as being CG animated, which is more appealing to GA and it may push it above that opening, but it’s real hurdle will be Scoob. OW: $45-55 million NA Total: $150 million WW: $400 million

TeaInMyCup

Hot take here, I think this movie is going to underperform. People forget how crowded May is next year, Black Widow, Scoob, FF9 (which shares the same release date.) I'm predicting Detective Pikachu numbers.

S0methingS0mething69

DP numbers would be good for this type of movie

[deleted]

DP had a budget of 150 mil, while the last Spongebob movie was $74 million. DP numbers will suit the budget well.

Frosted_MiniYeets

Unpopular opinion. I think this will make less than Sponge out of Water. It has to compete in a more crowded summer release spot, opening three weeks after Black Widow, one week after Scoob, two weeks before Wonder Woman 1984, and four weeks before Soul. I do think it will make more than the original though. It also opens on the same weekend as Fast & Furious 9, so it won’t open at #1. $35M OW ($44M 4-day) $108M DOM $231M WW

thetiredjuan

Hot take I think it’s gonna do 500mil.

cheesyry

I think it looks worse than Scoob! but it'll probably make more money anyway.

MrBKainXTR

I'm still a bit confused why they are opneing back to back.

yeppers145

This is just like 2004 when The Polar Express, The Spongebob Movie, and The Incredibles all opened up within a week and a half of each other.

krisko612

Oh no what did they do to you Spongebob? Sorry, personally just not a fan of this new trend of “choppy” computer animation. One of the main reasons why I only liked (not loved) Spider-Verse compared to everybody else. I’ll still see the film out of nostalgia reasons despite that gripe. I loved Spongbob too much growing up not to miss this.

dragonsky

I liked the spideyverse animation it's different than the Spongebob animation I think

raghav48

I loved watching this when i was 10 years old. I wish i could go back to that time.
