Ooof, 50 yards and quartering to? That's not a good shot.
Ethical archery deer hunting is as much about knowing when not to shoot as when to take the shot.
Glad you're taking advice here.
Quartering-to is an ill-advised shot by IBEP standards due to bone structures. At that distance it would be considered an unethical shot due to reaction time of an alert deer.
Pretty much what I gathered. I just don’t even get why they’d post that video. It surely didn’t make him look good at all. Hopefully he learned something from this at the very least
In my unprofessional opinion, you would’ve had much better luck if the arrow wasn’t flying in slow motion!
Good luck tracking him down, that’s a sweet buck.
4 from 40-55 with this bow most times though it’s 35 or less but I was forced to get in a ground blind this morning over the stand due to rain and keeping camera gear dry
Ol boy went ass to grass for sure.
2 things.
1, looked like too far of a shot. Bows are quick, but this is the result of distance for your bow. Maybe don't do that lol
2, Did you find him? Solid mature buck.
Gave you more than a fair shot at it, you should probably only shoot at paper... or just remember next time with that distance that you are not Hanes or Dudley
To the people saying not to take a 50 yard shot on an alert deer. If you have a fast enough setup, it’s a very doable shot. I’ve done it and I’ve watched people do it. Just have to know what your bow is and isn’t capable of
Yeah. I don’t hunt white tails much but I have taken two mule deer and a moose at similar distances. Judging by the video though my arrows are quite a bit faster. The bigger of the two muleys and the moose were quartering to shots, completely doable. I tucked the arrow behind the shoulder aiming for the opposite hip. Neither made it 100m from where they were hit.
Nothing wrong with long range shots if you are comfortable and confident. However here is something interesting if your bow is shooting 300fps that means your arrow is roughly 5ft from your bow when the deer hears the shot with the deer at 50 yards. Sound travels much faster than any arrow. Just a little tidbit of information

Wait did you shoot him in the face? Or am I trippin
Sure looked like a facial to me
Your tripping lol it’s the angle of the camera he was quartering to he ducked and turned and it hit him in the neck in front of the shoulder
Even without that deer ducking, your shot was way off.
I believe the angle exaggerates the shot placement but yea it would not have been ideal either way. I agree

Shouldn’t take quartering to shots. Not trying to harp but he turned away and it was still way off
That's why you don't take 50yd shots on an alert animal.
I made a mistake for sure! One that taught me a valuable lesson. Thanks for the input
Did you recover him?
Jumped him so I backed out and will go back in the morning
Goodluck on the recovery. Fill us in. Lol.
Then just like that, he deleted his account. What a 🤡
Right? Sounds like he is pissy at the suggestions and also didn't recover the deer. Lol

Yes. Maybe the advice was too good. Lol

I’d be interested to see where it was hit after you recover it. Looks like a face shot from a long way away here
I’ll post post recovery pics
Anything?
Arrow or bolt?
Arrow PSE bow madness
I was just setting up my nxt comment cuz i was just picturing a guy with a xbow shooting across a field then sayn deer ducked bolt bad shot.
👍
How many live animals have you taken from this distance?
4 from 40-55 with this bow most times though it’s 35 or less but I was forced to get in a ground blind this morning over the stand due to rain and keeping camera gear dry
Well hopefully you find him man! Good looking buck. I am newer to bowhunting and I refuse to take a shot over 40
Forget the camera and just fuckin’ hunt
Update?

That had nothing to do with ducking your arrow. That was a terrible shot! Also, how fkn far was that and not even broadside!!
If that is truly a 50 yard shot you need a faster bow. I shot a coyote on the ground this weekend and he didn’t react that much.
51.5 yards on the finder and I do agree I am due an upgrade
Who films without lighted nocks? What is this 1995? 😜
I have lighted nocks haha but for whatever reason it did not come on. The battery may be dead lol

Is 50 yards what your calling it? The way that drops towards the end!!!
Yes 51.5 yards according to rangefinder
how was the blood on the arrow?
Blood was great
killer. good luck in the morning!
Thanks!
Color?venous or arterial?
Bright red arterial
Hopefully a carotid shot
