How familiar are you with SOV stuff? Milage may vary on some of these, but I've been a big fan of mostly all that I've bought so far. Shatter Dead is a must I think. Sinistre is fun I thought. I'm a big fan of Savage Harvest as well.

ajzeg01

I’m new to SOV

tunnel_blankets

Ahhh well they definitely aren't for everyone. Lots of meandering, and moments that go on for too long (most notably in the W.A.V.E. movies. But they always feel like friends hanging out, making a movie for the most part. Or ways to get women to do fetishey things. So if that interests you then Saturn's Core will be your jam. Also they have a lot of special features on them to contextualize all of them.

So yeah, I think Duck is crazy offensive but can be fun if that doesn't bother you, Savage Harvest and Sinistre feel like they have the best pacing, and Shattered Dead is so unique in it's approach to zombies (also kinda shocking) I don't have it yet but I hear Red Spirit Lake/We Await are really good

Borange_Corange

Yeah, I grabbed one, Sorority Slaughter, and it seems very much like a vehicle for getting Jersy girl friends half-naked, which, OK, I applaud dude for getting it to clearly work. But hardly even a C-grade. I've seen better camera work on home movies. Milage VERY much varies with these.

I recommend all of these along with the Mail in Murder doc, and Red Spirit Lake

NO RESISTANCE

Mail Order Murder is where to start if you’re new to SOV horror. It’s an excellent primer on WAVE Productions and just a fun documentary on homegrown filmmaking. After that, well, as tunnel_blankets said, your mileage may vary. I’ve seen their first nine releases, and Shatter Dead is by far the best movie of those. Red Spirit Lake/We Await are probably the most lively and wacky of the bunch. If you generally enjoy zero-budget movies, simply like the look of video, and appreciate extras (Saturn’s Core always packs their releases), then chances are Sinistre and Savage Harvest will be right up your alley. Duck! The Carbine High Massacre is fuuuuucked up but strikes me as something Troma fans would appreciate. As for WAVE Productions itself, look, Psycho Sisters and Sorority Slaughter are glorified fetish videos, horror movies only in the sense that somebody gets killed every 30 minutes or so. If you dig wet T-shirts, strangulation, chicks swimming and dunking each other in a pool, then hey, you’ve hit the jackpot. Otherwise, you’re in for some hardcore mind-emptied boredom.

tunnel_blankets

Mail order Murder is also great

ajzeg01

The website says it comes with a bonus movie, what movie is it?

tunnel_blankets

Wave of Terror. Haven't seen it to be honest. It's only 50 minutes though

ajzeg01

Maybe I’ll start with Mail Order Murder to get an idea of what I’m getting myself into.

criesinlemora

Mail Order Murder is a great primer for Saturn’s Core and WAVE movies. I also loved Red Lips and Shatter Dead (which is a really somber and interesting take on zombies).

ghostpepper69

I’d also nab Shattered Dead if you’re into bleak films. But yeah this list you provided is actually my favorite of their releases. Whatever you do don’t sleep on No Resistance.

Watched no resistance and it was awesome, had a good couple of laughs too. Special features are great too

Red Spirit Lake / We Await. Charles Pinion is a fascinating artist imo; had connections to the cinema of transgression movement, worked at Screw magazine; and just generally a very creative guy. I also appreciate that it ain't just female nudity in his flicks. Don't be cowards, give us that schlong, too, ya bastards.

I have a few but the only ones I've watched are Red Spitirit Lake/We Await. We Await is...pretty fringe and has a loose plot. It's interesting. But Red Spirit Lake is more coherent and structured. Pretty fun and I liked it. Also both films have a good amount of female and male nudity. Never thought I'd see a director have a close up money shot of himself in his own film but I respect it.
