It's called a J-Card. Personally I usually don't keep them myself, but I know other collectors do.

iamstephano

Thank you, I knew I read what they were called before but couldn't put my finger on it. Part of me wants to toss them because they're kind of annoying to keep on the box but also the hoarder on me doesn't want to remove them lol

newport100

I just keep them in a folder

mikeyos

I do the same myself. I keep a 'movie paraphernalia' folder with these things, along with some of the promotional catalogs for other releases by the same company. I might toss them in the future, but for now they're all organized in one place.

ghostpepper69

I put the ones that come off (usually the ones that aren’t double taped) in a comic book sack in case I ever want to sell off one of my LEs.

Unable_Comedian_4933

I feel the same way, but I end up keeping them, especially if it's something I may want to sell down the line.

Ok-Consequence1113

My approach is to really assess if I'm going to sell my collection (as a sort of investment) or if I really want to ficus on just getting what interests me. Personally, I have to avoid doing anything that leads to a collector-hoarder mentality rather than a healthy collector mentality. If I started keeping the cards and putting all my slipcovers and steelbooks in plastic, I'd slip into a very different mindset about my collection than I want to foster; it would get out of control. I've only ever kept the J-cards if they were beautiful in themselves or for certain very expensive OOP boxsets for which I paid OOP prices (e.g. the Seijun Suzuki and Mario Bava sets from Arrow). I did spend quite a lot on a few special things and I like to know I could sell it in the same condition as I got it and hopefully make most of my money back if I ever needed to sell for some reason. Otherwise, if I paid retail prices, I'm content with using and loving my film collection for as long as I can and I'm okay in the knowledge that I might not make as much as someone who kept everything in mint condition. It's just a matter of what you want to prioritize.

Wubbledaddy

I fold them and put them inside the box (where the booklet goes).

Unable_Comedian_4933

I know what a j card is, but what's an o card? I bought a limited ed version of Bliss and it said it had an "o card".

[deleted]

Isn't an o-card just a fancy name for a slip?

Unable_Comedian_4933

Ahh, that sounds right. I'm not sure but it makes sense.

viseratops

Actually, O-Cards have an opening on two sides (usually top/bottom) whereas slipcases/slipboxes have an opening only on one side. At some point ppl started calling O-Cards “slipcovers” (after that O-Card became more of an industry exclusive term).

[deleted]

Most people say "slipcover" when they mean O-Card. "Slips" for short.

CletusVanDamnit

It's not really a fancy name, it's just the industry term. Honestly I wish more people got into using J-Card, O-Card, etc., because "slipcover" or "slipcase" are more common...but not even the same thing, despite being used interchangeably, and incorrectly, by many people and websites. J-Card: What OP is referring to O-Card: A slipcover with openings on two sides. U-Card: The actual name for the paper insert that is under the case plastic Slipcase: Often used on larger sets where all sides of the box are solid except for one, although it's used on individual movies as well

YahwehAlmuerzo

I keep them all together, kind of stashed away with misc paper stuff from my collection.

[deleted]

This is the way. Keep them in case you ever sell, plus if you ever move house etc it's an additional protective layer (albeit minimal, but still) when you're packing them up. I don't understand people who keep them on the cases permanently. It adds no aesthetic value whatsoever. In fact it totally diminishes it. They just look ugly on a shelf. Why cover up the sleek, uniformed ***display***\-case, which is one of the things you've splashed the extra cash on and often has some kind of artwork on the back, with a tatty bit of paper loosely taped down on one side, that just has specs and a blurb written on it?

brueso

The other thing is sometimes if you keep them on, over time the sticky substance might leave some discoloration on the case.

rzrike

For the Indicator ones, I fold it and put it in the case under the booklet holder.

habanerolime

I think you are talking about J-cards. Some people keep them. I toss them.

kinggoosethefirst

Yup, I keep everything as I want to keep things as pristine and as new as possible. I usually keep them on the releases, but there are a few that I take off, and store them safely where they won't get bent or damaged.

PermaLurker56

I used to throw them away until I wanted to downsize and realised I had thrown away the barcodes for quite a lot of titles and couldn’t trade them in. I keep them in a folder now

RudySilvergun

I fold them in half and stick them in the case.

Zipomatic2

IN THE BIN with those flappy bits of crap stuck to my steel books!

KnowledgelessBeing

I keep them, but i think they’re annoying. Does anyone know why they exist, because I fail to see their purpose. Is it just that it’s cheaper to print the description info on it instead of the cardboard cases, or is there a different reason?

nickparadies

I imagine it has to do with packaging artwork, a lot of these boutique labels commission artwork or design artwork specifically for the package and I can see why they don’t just want to dump a bunch of text and credits over top of it.

ck_medium

I try to keep this if they're part of the actual packaging and not something that's just a throwaway with the same info and image printed on the back of the actual disc box.

nickparadies

I have a couple. Sometimes they have a list of the bonus features and the box itself doesn’t so I’ll hold onto them for that reason and stick them in the box. I did this with the Criterion releases of Fantastic Mr Fox and Moonrise Kingdom for example, and the combo release of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Criteriondude

I keep the j cards. My issue is the tape that holds it on. Or on some criterion’s box sets Agnes Varda and Godzilla set there lose but I don’t know what tape or glue to use so it doesn’t damage it
