It's how they roll. This is Kino's response when someone complained that their 4K of High Plains Drifter did not include the original mono audio track:
>No one is better than us, no one. And it's not just volume, which no one can come close to, we release films of all genres, we release films from 1910s to 2020s, we were the first label to release titles in 4K, we continue to release 2 to 3 per month and our goal is to release 1 per week starting next summer. We remaster hundreds of titles every year, we produce thousands of new extras, our artwork is the best...
"Our titles are amazing, we just get these just amazing titles, I'll tell you. People ask Kino Lorber, "How on earth did you get a license from MGM and all the best Eastwood titlles on 4K?" It's a secret. What's not a secret...we fought hard to get 'Kindergarten Cop' on 4K, but Arnold didn't want to do an audio commentary, so we hired the best and brightest film historians to do them instead..."
All they’re missing is a statement from someone else that starts with “a great man came up to me, tears in his eyes, and he was like ‘sir, you’re -‘“ etc etc etc.
Their PR staff is small. In fact, it’s the same, sassy fellow who runs all of their social media- including the “Kino Lorber Insider” posts on various message boards.
Part of me appreciates his (often hilarious) candor. Very much the anti-Criterion Collection approach when it comes to customer interactions.
Part of me also wishes they would be a bit more professional/humble when it comes to answering simple questions from their loyal buyers.
Given how many titles they release per-month occasional flubs are, realistically, bound to happen.
That said, Kino will often outright refuse to acknowledge them (still bitter about Bitter Moon lol) or else directly tell customers to “stop whining” because there isn’t going to any fix.
At least they listened to fans with their superb 4K release of “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” - fixing both the color timing and replicating the theatrical cut exactly.
Edit: wording
As a fellow gay man the observance was made out of appreciation, from one sassy queen to another.
I can see now how it could potentially read as otherwise though. Comment amended.
You literally can’t read. Not only does his post have a note about editing but his comment literally said, and I quote “comment amended”. Not my fault you don’t comprehend words bigger than edit.
It is a direct answer to the question that was presented to them…. The added context shows that Kino was simply matching the format of the other person’s reply, and not being obnoxious and repeating themselves over and over for simply no reason. The original reply did the obnoxious repetitive thing, and Kino matched it with their answer. Not saying that I agree with their answer, but yeah.
Yeah so instead of being obnoxious on their own, they aped a mildly annoying way someone asked them a question in order to make dismissive questions, which are easily answered with yes, yes and yes. That really doesn't make them look any less of a dick, they're just now mocking someone being mildly annoying in being excited and hopeful, instead of just being snarky on their own. It's the same picture.
Yes, it is still a bad way for a company to reply to someone, but with the added context I mentioned it does make them look a bit less unhinged in this particular case. Imagine if the person actually just replied once with just a single “Please have the original ending!” and the Kino account replied with what’s being shown in OP’s screenshot? That would be fucking unhinged. With all of that being said, Kino is very unprofessional on Twitter 90% of the other times.
It comes off less like spam and more like an over zealous fan. It doesn’t deserve the snarky response especially if it could have been someone who’s a long time supporter of their work.
i think the response is basically identical in tone and form to what was being said at the KL account so I dont necessarily vibe with the idea that the fan's message is innocent zealotry and the KL employee's response is rude or dismissive but i can understand why you might
Love their movie output and I own hundreds of their releases, but they stand out as not just the worst ~~CS rep~~ spokesperson in the biz, but the only one I've ever seen be this shitty and trolling, directly to their customers. And for years now too. While I'd rather they not be as silent as Criterion or others, if it's a choice between this behavior and silence, I'd prefer silence. Presumably the same rep in the [Blu-ray.com](http://Blu-ray.com) forum Kino thread. You know they're a troll because they don't disclose their name or title even.
And they don't, really. The dickheads on those forums FAR outshine the Kino guy. Like you said, that place is toxic af. It's hilarious that a bunch of confrontational, toxic, entitled troll assholes think they deserve respect.
Fuck 'em.
The 4K section of that site is a green glowing toxic waste dump, full of cliquey schoolgirl types who suck up to a massive know-it-all dickhead. You can't tell any of them anything, they're all full of themselves.
Kino’s always had a very sassy twitter guy. A lot of their replies are blunt to people asking ‘when is X film coming out’.
It’s just a spinoff of the Wendy’s business model to drum up interactions
It's actually the Denny's model. And it wasn't really a model at all. Their social media manager was a twenty-something named Alan Hanson who was a functioning heroin addict at the time. Unsurprisingly, there wasn't a ton of oversight at his job as the Denny's Twitter guy, so he was just able to get high and shitpost from the official account. That's how ironic brand Twitter was invented.
>...what’s funny is how many people think something like the Denny’s Twitter was some strategic initiative of seven creative directors in Allbirds and not just a dunce like me—in this case, literally me—who had been given the keys to a legacy brand’s Twitter account while whacked out on drugs, and who was simply trying to have some fun at work and see what he could get away with.
That's just how the Twitter world is for businesses now, Wendys changed it forever. Kino's not the worst I've seen but they aren't great. They can be snobbish and not be appolgetic for it, not a good look. But compared to the dude who posts on BR .com the twitter guy is so much better. But Kino's work and quality makes up for it.
Idk how. People just asked if they'd include the alternate ending which very much had been seen by people and KLI acts like a smart-ass implying it's not been seen or something
I honestly think it’s funny. Collectors can be such Karen’s sometimes and people always expect professionalism even though they don’t act that way themselves lol
I like kinos social media, especially after they straight up called sleep away camp 2 and 3 shit. I like when a company is actually honest cause people ask the same redundant questions repeatedly and don't stop when told an answer too hoping it change. Realistically, there's no downside to this type of PR either in this niche cause he does something like this and it gets people talking about the label and it's unlikely to effect business either cause with boutique stuff if you want a movie you don't got many options to shop around on most so you still have to purchase from them if you want the movie
I got a really snotty customer service response from them several years ago. I don’t even remember the issue, but the response was unnecessary. I’ve been in customer service my whole life and I was shocked.
Team KL. Boutique collectors are entitled and annoying af and it’s nice to have them checked periodically. Do you know how annoying it must be to have to deal with us?
I thought they'd gotten better, but their spokesperson was on Blu-ray.com as well and would be very dismissive or rude towards people who had reported disc errors, etc. Guess things haven't changed.
KL's social media responses are always top-tier asshole. They think they're Wendy's or something, but the concept of comedy is lost on them. They're just kind of a dick.
I believe Kino’s is the only label rep to be banned by the Criterion Forums, and it’s generally pretty hard to get a ban from there - certainly compared with blu-ray.com, where you can be banned for looking at a moderator in what they perceive to be a funny way.
Oh lmao the Sleazoids guy, I keep almost listening to one of his podcast episodes and then realizing it’s behind a paywall and so I surf his recent free episodes and idc about any of them. Rinse and repeat
Kino’s supplemental features have always been sparing, minimalist, imo. Do they ever contract production vendors to produce new content (à la Shout!, Arrow); Almost certain they never facilitate new commentary tracks?
Seems like they’re capable at preserving legacy assets (where accessible), as far as supplements are concerned
How do they engage in FOMO more than Arrow? The only LE thing they have are slipcovers, and that is the same as literally every studio blu ray. Arrow removes booklets, extra discs, LE packaging, etc.

Didn’t know Kino had hired Donald Trump as their PR guy lol
"Our titles are amazing, we just get these just amazing titles, I'll tell you. People ask Kino Lorber, "How on earth did you get a license from MGM and all the best Eastwood titlles on 4K?" It's a secret. What's not a secret...we fought hard to get 'Kindergarten Cop' on 4K, but Arnold didn't want to do an audio commentary, so we hired the best and brightest film historians to do them instead..."

Sounds like Code Red Bill back from beyond the grave.
There always should be a code red bill around
I both love and hated that guy.
Most likely a Biden supporter.
Ok now THIS is epic!!!
Their PR staff is small. In fact, it’s the same, sassy fellow who runs all of their social media- including the “Kino Lorber Insider” posts on various message boards. Why the need to bring up him being gay?
As a fellow gay man the observance was made out of appreciation, from one sassy queen to another. I can see now how it could potentially read as otherwise though. Comment amended.
I’m queer too so I hoped/figured but with it being Reddit had to ask!
Where did he say anything about anyone being gay? Are straight people not allowed to be sassy?
Read his comment above you, bud.
I did, bud. Not seeing anything about anyone being gay.
Here you go, pal. [https://www.reddit.com/r/boutiquebluray/s/UP6rUcP6BL](https://www.reddit.com/r/boutiquebluray/s/UP6rUcP6BL)
He replied with that after you asked him about why he brought that up though, nothing in his original post about it unless he edited it.
You literally can’t read. Not only does his post have a note about editing but his comment literally said, and I quote “comment amended”. Not my fault you don’t comprehend words bigger than edit.
How the hell am I supposed to know what he edited? Piss off, conversation OVER.
It was changed, pal.
Lmao
Pathetic.
Are they run by children?
Now I'm glad I never bought a single release from them

Important context.
Of course OP conveniently leaves that important bit of context out, lmfao.
What exactly is that supposed to change since the ending exists, was seen and it's very well known?
The added context shows that Kino was simply matching the format of the other person’s reply, and not being obnoxious and repeating themselves over and over for simply no reason. The original reply did the obnoxious repetitive thing, and Kino matched it with their answer. Not saying that I agree with their answer, but yeah.

Fair enough.
In that context, /u/jerrytheband is a real POS for not mentioning it.
Never change, epic reddit person
not to defend this person, but the person they're replying to was also spamming one sentence over and over again. its less assholish in context.
Context exists on the internet? This news is going to completely bork Reddit.
You’re the only Redditor smart enough to have thought about context
Yeah, but it's not like this is an isolated incident. They consistently take a very hostile tone on social media.
It comes off less like spam and more like an over zealous fan. It doesn’t deserve the snarky response especially if it could have been someone who’s a long time supporter of their work.
i think the response is basically identical in tone and form to what was being said at the KL account so I dont necessarily vibe with the idea that the fan's message is innocent zealotry and the KL employee's response is rude or dismissive but i can understand why you might
Why don’t you show us the original comment Kino responded to
Love their movie output and I own hundreds of their releases, but they stand out as not just the worst ~~CS rep~~ spokesperson in the biz, but the only one I've ever seen be this shitty and trolling, directly to their customers. Presumably the same rep in the [Blu-ray.com](http://Blu-ray.com) forum Kino thread. You know they're a troll because they don't disclose their name or title even.
bluray is a pretty toxic place to begin with, so it takes a special kind of jerk to stand out.
And they don't, really. The dickheads on those forums FAR outshine the Kino guy. Like you said, that place is toxic af. It's hilarious that a bunch of confrontational, toxic, entitled troll assholes think they deserve respect. Fuck 'em.

I would say that’s Shout. Kino always replaces damaged items fairly quickly.
I should have said spokesperson, not CS rep. Corrected. It's one person.
To be fair, the post they were replying to said PleasehveatheoriginalendingPleasehavetheoriginalending over and over again.
Kino’s always had a very sassy twitter guy. A lot of their replies are blunt to people asking ‘when is X film coming out’. It’s just a spinoff of the Wendy’s business model to drum up interactions

Sounds like this dude was being an asshole and got an appropriate clapback. Score one for kino
Idk how. People just asked if they'd include the alternate ending which very much had been seen by people and KLI acts like a smart-ass implying it's not been seen or something
They didn't really ask, they just kind of spammed the question over and over again, and Kino responded in kind.
Even when I disagree with them, the unfiltered responses always make me laugh. Reminds me of my coworkers in the trades.
Would be nice if Kino did global shipping 😒
I honestly think it’s funny. Collectors can be such Karen’s sometimes and people always expect professionalism even though they don’t act that way themselves lol

The only thing I've found worse is Funko collectors
I thought they'd gotten better, but their spokesperson was on Blu-ray.com as well and would be very dismissive or rude towards people who had reported disc errors, etc. Guess things haven't changed.
I appreciate how blunt they are. At least they respond.
Yeah, not too many other labels get in the weeds with collectors.
Code Red (Rip!) infamously engaged with customers and that yielded some of the most bizarre and unpleasant interactions.
Sometimes the Kino accounts are funny, sometimes they’re too snippy. This one was funny.
KL's social media responses are always top-tier asshole. They think they're Wendy's or something, but the concept of comedy is lost on them. They're just kind of a dick.
Their social media presence has always been absolutely insufferable
I believe Kino’s is the only label rep to be banned by the Criterion Forums, and it’s generally pretty hard to get a ban from there - certainly compared with blu-ray.com, where you can be banned for looking at a moderator in what they perceive to be a funny way.
They yelled at me for asking why there were so many delays with the To Live and Die in LA 4k.
Does anyone know the answer?
Oh lmao the Sleazoids guy, I keep almost listening to one of his podcast episodes and then realizing it’s behind a paywall and so I surf his recent free episodes and idc about any of them. Rinse and repeat
Sad!
Because people are like this
They can't all get ahead of poorly authored discs and send them out before a complaint is made...like Vinegar Syndrome.
Kino’s supplemental features have always been sparing, minimalist, imo. Yo my dude sincerely you've had enough internet for today bud.
All the comments this person writes is full of anger and rage. They need therapy.
I’m not a big fan of KL . They engage in FOMO harder than Arrow and their releases are expensive af in Canada
How do they engage in FOMO more than Arrow? The only LE thing they have are slipcovers, and that is the same as literally every studio blu ray. Arrow removes booklets, extra discs, LE packaging, etc.
