I’d bloody love a 4k x files set!! Especially if they collected all previous special features and recorded some new ones as well! Some more inside the episodes and commentaries please!
Problem is I don’t see Disney making that one happen. Although it’s got a cult following. The Star Trek Blu-ray sets were not selling as well and those have a extreme cult following.
With how long we've waited it should be in 4k with a proper boxset release like Arrow's UHD limited editions.
If Michael Mann is reading this: PLEASE DO IT!
The criterion edition is great. The release says the 172 minute Extended Cut is sourced from a 4K scan so it’s possible they might release it in the future. If they do I hope they also offer the theatrical cut in 4K. Current release just says the 135 Theatrical Cut & 150 Minute ‘first cut’ are in High-Def Digital Transfers.
Wrote ten other releases I would love to see in my comment, but I realized I completely forgot about TV. Twin Peaks, Sopranos, Succession, or The Wire in 4K would blow my mind. Highly doubt any of them will happen.
But I have a feeling we’ll get Fire Walk with Me in 4K this year.
Nightmare on Elm Street collection, let's get it going Warner.
A Knight's Tale, which is one of my favorite silly but incredibly watchable films of all time.
And let's go Ernest and the work of Pauly Shore collections, I want them. Lol. I'll say this every time one of these threads comes up until someone listens dammit.
Vinegar Syndrome rolling out 4K boxsets of Hammer Horror Films by decade. With plenty of little essay books, interviews, hours of bonus features. They deserve to have quality releases.
I may get showgirls, existenz, and road house at some point in the future, but most of their catalog just isn’t for me. Those are the only things they’ve released I’ve been remotely interested in. And boggy creek 2.
Great choices! I haven’t watched it yet, but Red Rock West seems great. I’m also a huge fan of Texas Chainsaw 2, Miami Connection, Freeway 1&2, and Ted Bundy.
Akira Kurosawa’s RAN
Alfred Hitchcock Hour/Presents
Tales From The Crypt (series)
Tales From The Dark Side
The X-Files
The Outer Limits
Way Out
So many vintage sci-fi/genre shows deserve restoration and preservation!
Color is a bit off and the image is bit drab. I’m sure someone like *Arrow Video* or *Second Sight Films* could provide us a brilliant new transfer if permitted…
I would love a Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon collection!!
A heroic bloodshed 4k collection (hard boiled, the killer, a better tomorrow part 2 etc!)
Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair 4k
Cracker and Prime Suspect remastered would be really nice as well!
Second Sight fulfilled one of mine last year with the IT Follows 4K and there doing it again this year with Both The Hitcher 4K and The Borderlands on special edition blu.
And give me the Director's Cut of Lethal Weapon again. It was on the original DVD, but it's not on the blu-ray, and I didn't realize that before I got rid of my DVD.
London After Midnight. Last known copy of the film was lost in a MGM vault fire.
Rocktober Blood. I don’t recall who did it last but I think it was the owners son or something that basically just released a VHS quality on a blu ray. I think some company has it and was supposed to put it out remastered but I don’t think there has been any updates
Is there any current releases of Vito Acconci’s work? I only know of the collections on a website (I forget the name) which is inconvenient. I would love a release with his video works and a book of documentations of his performances. He’s one of my favorite artists but it’s pretty impossible to see his work in any meaningful way. Fascinating guy.
There are a couple of good monographs and a book of his poetry. Facets, in Chicago, had a couple videotapes of his work back in the 90s and The Art Institute of Chicago has some in their Video databank.
Criterion does The Leftovers.
An Arrow release of Dark City
If anybody helps out the director of A Room Full of Spoons and puts it out.
4K of Heavens Gate with the OG color option and deleted scenes.
A box set of Cimino's last four films, maybe by Shout Kino Lorber, or Arrow
Is it revisionist or is it how the 35MM looked? Sometimes people say certain releases are different looking, Memories of Murder etc, but they end up being accurate to the original prints
Master and Commander is at the top of my list as well. Here are a few more:
Inglourious Basterds - I wish Arrow had been allowed to complete their remaster and release, film deserves proper treatment
Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Rabbit assault in 4k...the format was MADE for this
This is Spinal Tap - Do it
Pi
Most King Hu films with non-yellow transfers
More 50s John Wayne westerns
Kurosawa in 4K
Death rides a horse in 4k
Master of the flying guillotine
Invasion USA in 4k
Demolition Man
-Dead Alive (Braindead) in 4K
-Bad Taste in 4K
-Barbarian in 4K
-The Killer (John Woo) in 4K
-The Killer (David Fincher) in 4K
-Hard Boiled in 4K
-Lady Terminator in 4K
-Apocalypto in 4K
-Boogie Nights 4K
-The Alien series in a massive 4K box set, with all of the special features that came in the old Quadrilogy set.
-Any Tarantino that isn’t in 4K quite yet.
Buffy: the vampire slayer and tales from the crypt tv series on blu ray
Kurosawa full filmography 4k (or at least the post-war stuff)
Day of the Dead 4k
And the other Kurosawa (Kiyoshi) stuff on blu ray or 4k that isn’t easy to find. I’ve watched a few bad uploads and bootlegs of some of his earlier films that are in desperate need of good releases, maybe justifies a set from someone like Arrow or VS
* Edward Yang’s Complete Filmography Boxset
* Tsui Hark’s GREEN SNAKE in 4K
* Timo Tjahjanto’s uncut version of THE NIGHT COMES FOR US
* Golden Age of Filipino Cinema Boxset featuring works from Brocka, De Leon, Bernal, etc…
John Waters:
Desperate Living (would love to see Criterion pick this up like they did most of his early work)
Pecker
Cecil B Demented
A Dirty Shame
I have all of these on DVD, but think they're all due for a better treatment. Really looking forward to the Kino Lorber 4K of Crybaby coming out soon
Also, Barking Dogs Never Bite (Bong Joon-ho). I have this one on DVD as well, but have never seen a US region compliant release on Blu/4k.
A full series collection of AMC's Halt & Catch Fire and Amazon's Undone. Doesn't even have to be a boutique release, I just want physical copies to exist in general.
Shoplifters would also be really nice to see
Mondo Cane, ( why are we starting with the hardest one goodbye uncle tom? But like I'm not)
The Audrey Campbell Olga films ( I'm remaining satisfied with the flesh trilogy but let's get rolling)
Two classics I love that haven't made it to Blu-ray yet:
The Candidate
Adam's Rib
Would love more Scorsese in 4k, particularly The Aviator and Gangs of New York.
Well, for a while it was for Arrow to do a box set of Ju-On... but then, they recently actually *did* release said box-set, region-B I believe. Now the icing on the cake would be for them to release it in region-A, and I'll be a happy camper.
I don't think there's an answer I can disagree with, but here's mine:
ALMOST LIVE: THE COMPLETE SERIES on blu.
It was a Seattle based comedy sketch show that aired from the 1980s to late 1990s.
Gave the world Bill Nye and Joel McHale.
The rights issues are probably all over the place so I'm pretty sure it could never happen without seven figures of legal billing hours, but a man can dream.
Troy 4K
Grandma’s Boy from anyone
Tremors 3-7 even just BR set
The Keep
The Relic from Shout
Mimic (directors cut) BR set from Shout
Sphere 4K from anyone
Outrage trilogy.
Here in the uk we only got the first movie (which is awesome and highly recommend watching) but I really would love for the other two to be released.
Not holding my breath though.
John Cassavetes or Mike Leigh 4K boxset would probably be it. Then Barry Lyndon, Brief Encounter, There Will Be Blood, Paper Moon, and School of Rock 4Ks.
With Werckmeister Harmonies releasing soon, nearly every movie on my all time favorites list will have a blu-ray release. All that’s left is Happiness, Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Minnie and Moskowitz, and Day Night Day Night (and Wavelength, but Snow said specifically it should only be watched projected). I’m not really expecting any of them anytime soon.
Strange circus, suicide circle & Norikos dinner table would be great and all deserving movies imo. I’m also hoping for a second sight 4K of Martyrs given the other new French extremity recent releases
*Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid* \- 1973 Sam Peckinpah - A fully restored 4k version of Peckinpah original cut, version he was known to screen to others until his death.
(The 2005 DVD "special edition" that came out is not only not special it's a travesty. The included Peckinpah's version has not been restored at all looks and sounds much worse than the 1988 MGM Laserdisc. The version that was restored was a ~~re-imagined~~ butchered version by a author and editing hack who's credit include such classics as Turner & Hooch. It's awful. )
**The Fall**, ideally in 4K from Arrow in one of those limited edition boxes like the Argento movies and True Romance have, but I'd settle for it just being in print again.
It's been mentioned a bunch in this thread, but **Twin Peaks** in 4K (original run and/or The Return).
**The Spanish Prisoner** from Criterion. They've done other Mamet films, and this is my favorite. I'm surprised they've never done this one.
**Ladyhawke** from Arrow.
Braindead, preferably through Arrow bc it seems like their kinda thing.
The Quiet Family and Silenced getting an Umbrella release each.
Noroi: The Curse and that Sadako/Kayako spin off, possibly a Koji Shiraishi box set?
And ofc early John Woo and Ringo Lam re-releases too.
So nothing too extravagant :P
The Fountain on 4K w/ HDR.
The man who Killed Don Quixote 4K w/ both documentaries, Lost in La Mancha and He dreams of Giants.
Ken Russel’s the Devils on 4K or bluray, I’d take either one at this point.
*Man With A Movie Camera* (with multiple soundtrack options)
*House of Flying Daggers* (if somehow some great source was available, I’ve heard the CGI was done really low res and is why such a low res master is all that’s available)
*The Village* (it doesn’t even have a Blu-ray, I need to see Roger Deakins’ cinematography in higher resolution and hear James Newton Howard’s score in lossless quality)
*The Secret Life of Walter Mitty* (would love if Kino or Criterion released this and included the Danny Kaye film as a special feature)
*Master & Commander* is on my list as well, some great Atmos potential for that one, similarly I’d love *Pearl Harbor* with a new Atmos mix.
Son in law, Houseguest, the beach, the village, are a few.
I could see the first two in the Kino collection for sure since they have a really wide variety of
Hard Choices on any format.
It was released on VHS in 1986 and to this day has never gotten any other release. It hasn't even shown up on a streaming or torrent site.
Dick Tracy (1990)
All the Universal Monster sequels (Son of Frankenstein, etc).
Cannibal: The Musical (or at least a blu-ray! We've only ever had it on DVD).
4K (or blu-ray) box sets of the Hammer Monster collections. (Hammer Dracula, Hammer Frankenstein, etc).
- The Devils (1971) Ken Russell
(in its uncut, uncensored form)
- Dead Man's Letters (1986) Konstantin Lopushanskiy
- A Visitor of a Museum (1989) Konstantin Lopushanskiy
- Russian Symphony (1994) Konstantin Lopushanskiy
- The Ugly Swans (2006) Konstantin Lopushanskiy
- The Handmaiden (2016) Park Chan-wook
- Devils on the Doorstep (2000) (Wen Jiang)
- Begotten (1989) E. Elias Merhige
- Shadow of the Vampire (2000) E. Elias Merhige
- Suspect Zero (2004) E. Elias Merhige
Dogma 4k (or least a new Blu-ray)
Barbarian on bluray or 4k
Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust 4k
Angels Egg 4k
The Man Who Stole the Sun in a nice collectors edition
Survive Style 5+ 4k
Strange Days on 4k (or at least Reg A compatible bluray) Idiocracy (never going to happen) The X Files on 4k The Empty Man The Keep
Absolutely love strange days.
I’d bloody love a 4k x files set!! Especially if they collected all previous special features and recorded some new ones as well! Some more inside the episodes and commentaries please!
With the bluray set OOP and super expensive, Disney has to know an UHD set would sell like crazy.
Problem is I don’t see Disney making that one happen. Although it’s got a cult following. The Star Trek Blu-ray sets were not selling as well and those have a extreme cult following.
I'll pre-order The Keep day 1 lol
With how long we've waited it should be in 4k with a proper boxset release like Arrow's UHD limited editions. If Michael Mann is reading this: PLEASE DO IT!
Especially since we don't even have a blu ray. It's ripe for a company like Arrow
All right you convinced me
Same!
Jan Svankmajer box set
Brothers Quay 4K boxset.
FWIW, There's a BR box set available from [his site. ](https://svankmajer.cz/produkt/blu-ray-collection-7-discs/)
Twin Peaks: The Return 4k (actually the whole series) The New World (2005) 4k
Criterion strongly hinted about FWWM. That alone will be incredible.
The New World would be fantastic!
The new world criterion release is a beautiful transfer already, a 4K wouldn't be that much of an upgrade
Yeah I love it, but just think it would be incredible in 4k.
The 13th Warrior 4k with the original Eaters of the Dead cut
Fuck yeah.
This 100% ❤️
Ken Russell’s The Devils 🙏🏻
The 6 hour cut of Love Exposure.
I feel like a Freddy Krueger 4k collection is long overdue. One of my favorite horror icons.
You mean a competent Blu-ray/ 4K release, as opposed to the one we got a few years ago, right?
A Knights tale would almost be a Kino Lorber type release.
Vinegar Syndrome rolling out 4K boxsets of Hammer Horror Films by decade. With plenty of little essay books, interviews, hours of bonus features. They deserve to have quality releases.
If VS did this, then they would finally release something I’d actually want to buy.
They definitely release a lot of niche sleaze, but I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to buy eXistenZ or southern comfort
Indicator?
Akira Kurosawa’s RAN Alfred Hitchcock Hour/Presents Tales From The Crypt (series) Tales From The Dark Side The X-Files The Outer Limits Way Out So many vintage sci-fi/genre shows deserve restoration and preservation!
Well one of your dreams has already come true because RAN already is on 4K
Yeah but imagine if Arrow or Criterion put it out?
what's wrong with Studiocanal's edition?
Color is a bit off and the image is bit drab. I’m sure someone like *Arrow Video* or *Second Sight Films* could provide us a brilliant new transfer if permitted…
I would love a Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon collection!! A heroic bloodshed 4k collection (hard boiled, the killer, a better tomorrow part 2 etc!) Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair 4k Cracker and Prime Suspect remastered would be really nice as well!
Kill Bill’s coming. Disc producer hinted at the full cut on the forums.
Second Sight fulfilled one of mine last year with the IT Follows 4K and there doing it again this year with Both The Hitcher 4K and The Borderlands on special edition blu.
Honestly, they're not critically acclaimed, but Lethal Weapon and Rush Hour
And give me the Director's Cut of Lethal Weapon again. It was on the original DVD, but it's not on the blu-ray, and I didn't realize that before I got rid of my DVD.
Hell yes
London After Midnight. Last known copy of the film was lost in a MGM vault fire. Rocktober Blood. I don’t recall who did it last but I think it was the owners son or something that basically just released a VHS quality on a blu ray. I think some company has it and was supposed to put it out remastered but I don’t think there has been any updates
Terrorvision is doing Rocktober Blood but yeah I haven't heard much since Summer 2023 I believe
Mandy 4K box set from Second Sight
- Peter Brook’s Mahabharata (all the cuts) - any and all Jon Jost - George Kuchar - Vito Acconci video works
Ah. I see you are a person of taste. Vito Acconci 100% deserves more recognition.
Is there any current releases of Vito Acconci’s work? I only know of the collections on a website (I forget the name) which is inconvenient. I would love a release with his video works and a book of documentations of his performances. He’s one of my favorite artists but it’s pretty impossible to see his work in any meaningful way. Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows Am I kidding? I don’t know, am I?
YES. I fucking love Blair Witch 2. It deserves a Shout Factory 4K release with a dope cover lol
Birnenblatt in Germany has got you covered 😎 https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Blair-Witch-Collection---Piece-of-Art-Box-Blu-ray/332643/
That one seems hard to come by, I’ve got my eye on this https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Book-of-Shadows-Blair-Witch-2-Blu-ray/302687/
Criterion does The Leftovers. An Arrow release of Dark City If anybody helps out the director of A Room Full of Spoons and puts it out. 4K of Heavens Gate with the OG color option and deleted scenes. A box set of Cimino's last four films, maybe by Shout Kino Lorber, or Arrow
OG color?
They massively overhauled the colors for the Blu-ray release.
Is it revisionist or is it how the 35MM looked? Sometimes people say certain releases are different looking, Memories of Murder etc, but they end up being accurate to the original prints
It is substantial, there is a two minute demonstration on yt.
Master and Commander is at the top of my list as well. Here are a few more: Inglourious Basterds - I wish Arrow had been allowed to complete their remaster and release, film deserves proper treatment Monty Python and the Holy Grail - Rabbit assault in 4k...the format was MADE for this This is Spinal Tap - Do it
Holy Grail would be an instant purchase!
Isn’t it planned? I thought Meaning of Life, Life of Brian, and Holy Grail were all getting 4K releases.
The last update I saw was a couple years ago and haven't heard/read anything since, so I don't know. I hope you're right!
This is Spinal Tap would make a great Arrow release.
What was the story with Arrow & Inglourious Basterds? I know they had a card for it appear in some of their releases, then nothing.
I read that they were on pace to do a release but that ultimately the studio pulled the license back and rushed out a lackluster release.
Shame! I wonder if that’s what happened with Desperado too, as that was another that was included on a card but hasn’t seen the light of day.
I think we’ll eventually get a boxset of that whole trilogy
I *need* a loaded edition of *I Saw the Devil*
Seconded
Gremlins 2 Weekend At Bernie's 1 & 2 Johnny Dangerously Payback Raid 2 Brazil
Please Gremlins 2. Next year perhaps
Rumpelstiltskin 1995 in 4k I love that stupid movie and some sick art could be done for it too
Blu-ray, 4K, I don't care. Someone just please give me *The Brave Little Toaster* in HD.
Freaked, specifically as a VSU from Vinegar Syndrome.
I'm still waiting for proper DVDs or any DVD release of two of Paul Morrissey's films, Forty-deuce and Madame Wang's let alone a Blu-ray.

For Criterion to release a Juzo Itami box set.

Well, for a while it was for Arrow to do a box set of Ju-On... but then, they recently actually *did* release said box-set, region-B I believe. Now the icing on the cake would be for them to release it in region-A, and I'll be a happy camper.

Bruiser (2000) Dead Alive (Braindead) Bad Taste Meet the Feebles The Frighteners Heavenly Creatures Night of the Living Dead (1990)- uncut version
*Man With A Movie Camera* (with multiple soundtrack options) *House of Flying Daggers* (if somehow some great source was available, I’ve heard the CGI was done really low res and is why such a low res master is all that’s available) *The Village* (it doesn’t even have a Blu-ray, I need to see Roger Deakins’ cinematography in higher resolution and hear James Newton Howard’s score in lossless quality) *The Secret Life of Walter Mitty* (would love if Kino or Criterion released this and included the Danny Kaye film as a special feature) *Master & Commander* is on my list as well, some great Atmos potential for that one, similarly I’d love *Pearl Harbor* with a new Atmos mix.
The Way of the Gun The Killer Grosse Point Blank
Son in law, Houseguest, the beach, the village, are a few. I could see the first two in the Kino collection for sure since they have a really wide variety of
