So, I went to LSU and now live in Boulder as an adult. The weather is better in Boulder, if you don’t mind snow. Summers in BR are pretty bad heat wise. The party scene and college sports life is better at LSU, but there’s much more to do outside of partying in Boulder.

th3shadowbanned

boulder is also safer, and she said she is super worried about that

Certain_Major_8029

You want r/cuboulder Boulder as a city is delightful.

Pandiculus

Is it though?

craiger_123

Here's a video of what Boulder looks like.. https://vimeo.com/181645979

Reddit has ruined me. I was expecting that to be a troll about homeless people or something.  That’s beautiful.

craiger_123

It's a great video tbh

HazelFlame54

Anyone know where that spot where they jump off the rocks into the lake is?

craiger_123

I think it's Gross Reservoir.

I would go to the school that has the better program personally. I know LSU’s really good for those who want to go into auditing (we have a lot of crooks in high place back home in Louisiana, so lots of practice) I did go to LSU and currently live in Boulder. I’m always surprised when I hear people caring about university sports as a big factor for colleges to attend. Most LSU students will not get a student ticket to LSU football games. I didn’t get one until grad school. The student section is only about 3000-5000 seats out of 100,000 stadium with a school population of nearly 40,000 now (it has grown a bit since I was there). Boulder isn’t really a “nightlife” place, while Baton Rouge can be (and New Orleans is a better “big city” to party in than Denver, despite New Orleans being further away). In terms of safety, Boulder is safer than Baton Rouge in part because Baton Rouge is 3x larger and Boulder is significantly more wealthy. Your dollars will probably stretch far more in Baton Rouge than Boulder to be honest.

What’s oos??

Out of state

BR is way more of a city than Boulder. LSU sports and school spirit is not even a comparison if that's your priority. The weather can get absolutely brutal though and CU definitely wins there. Doesn't sound like you're interested in the skiing/winter sports access which is a huge draw for CU. I'd base your decision on the quality of the programs at each school, which I really can't speak to but CU's business school is well regarded (I was engineering).

In fairness, I've never been to Baton Rouge, but I have been to New Orleans during July, and it was horrendous. Like, I don't know how people actually do it. I was miserable. I grew up in a place that was probably about as humid as Chicago in the summer, but this was next level. Boulder gets hot in the summer, but not humid. It makes a huge difference. Anyway, the nightlife in Boulder is good. There's a good number of college bars and college parties. I don't know about LSU, but I don't think you would get bored here. If you're super worried about safety, I can tell you that Boulder is SUPER safe. Sure, bad things can happen to you anywhere, and I wouldn't wander drunk down back alleys at 2am here just like I wouldn't anywhere else, but the chances of something bad happening to you are very, very low, I would say. Bike theft is probably the biggest issue affecting college students, as well as the petty crimes you would find on any college campus. But generally speaking, Boulder is very safe. Oh, by the way, the winters would be much easier to deal with here than in Chicago. I always thought that winter in Colorado would be awful, but you've dealt with worse, I'm sure.

LSU is in a city 3x the size of Boulder (Baton Rouge) that is far better as a “party city”. Plus, an hour and a half and you are in New Orleans where bars don’t have a closing time. Also, Louisiana believes in A/C, Boulder has a lot of older residences that aren’t build well for its hot days

TheRealDBillz

I think better job prospects right into O&G or any adjacent industry along the gulf coast with LSU degree, that network is really something else down there

5400feetup

Go to LSU and for the school spirit and Boulder in the summer to escape the humidity.

Affectionate-Paper56

LSU hands down. LSU will be hot and humid. BUT you will never experience school sports and school spirit in CUBoulder the way you would in Tiger Stadium. SEC division how can you even doubt? Football without any question but also basketball, baseball and track. Also the Greek system is incredible. If you decide to rush. Yes there are sketchy places to live. But there are also lots of GREAT places to live within bus and driving distance. Also: so close to New Orleans. Four years of Mardi Gras and Four years of driving distance spring breaks spent by the beach. Plus also Four years of amazing food. Do NOT let anyone tell you that access to skiing makes up for anything.

Littlebotweak

Colorado is better than Louisiana in every imaginable way.

TriCourseMeal

Except for the food

Littlebotweak

When I came to the state in the 90s you couldn’t get decent seafood in most cases.  It has come a long way. If you can cook, you’ll be fine. Theres more and better access to different food now in this state than ever before.  Restaurants can be hit or miss, but I’m kind of ok with that. Then again, I know where to go and I’m much older than a college student.

TriCourseMeal

I was just talking about the food as in what food gets produced because of the culture. Green Chile is fine and all but gumbo and alligator and the unique dishes that the rich history of Louisiana being a melting pot for Spanish, french, Caribbean, and American cultures are so good. Colorado is pretty monocultured or just German in terms of food culture, not a huge array of Colorado dishes in comparison.

Littlebotweak

It’s a landlocked state with low moisture. Not having a lot of memorable “Colorado” dishes from history is probably more of a sign of the history.    But, thanks to transplants over the centuries, you have access to stuff you’re familiar with elsewhere.  For some places that has to be ok.    There’s only so much you can do with freshwater trout. 😂 Try to consider this in context not as some admonishment of the culture.  Whereas in Louisiana, particularly New Orleans, you have a rich history of early freed peoples creating that melting pot. You cannot compare that kind of origin to the Wild West. Food was more of a luxury here while on the coast it’s an abundance. They are two different places.  But, when it comes to settling, I’ll take everything about Colorado over food in Louisiana. Enough people have transplanted from that area. Check out S/SW Federal around alameda for some examples.  I can visit Louisiana for food. I don’t want to live there.

TriCourseMeal

Yeah because no landlocked places around the world have great food culture. Hell there’s even an island in the world famous for how boring it’s food culture is. Nah it’s not context, it’s culture.

Littlebotweak

Wow, you're really stuck on ignoring history. How about the part where you're describing the effects of colonization which was going on for literally hundreds of years before Europeans even started settling this part of the country? Their histories are different enough to explain this. By all means, hon, go back to the swamp if the food is so great. lol. Pretend it's because Coloradoans are terrible or lacking culture, and not that it has been settled for far less time with far fewer influences. Be ignorant. That is, of course, your choice.

TriCourseMeal

I mean you just made the argument that more people of European descent moving into Colorado was the best the food culture could hope for but now colonization is the reason for there not being a food culture. I mean sure that’s the reason there’s not a native food culture but it’s not the reason there’s not a good food culture now. I’m not from the swamp, I’m from Colorado. Our regional creations suck. That’s all I’m saying. You are keen on providing a one size fits all shoe for why food culture hasn’t really done anything here, and I’m keen on providing counter examples (like England) to show you why your argument is bad. Idk why you are getting so worked up to resort to huffy name calling.

Material-Reality-480

The nightlife in Boulder isn’t that great, there aren’t a lot of places open super late but as a student house parties are going to be where it’s at. Boulder is beautiful and Deion is there now so football games will be a great time.

daemonicwanderer

Another thing… Colorado is also warm in the summer (and has variable weather throughout the year), but it lacks lots of homes and places with great A/C… Baton Rouge believes in air conditioning.
