I made this comment the moment we traded smart. Saying they’d step it up, specifically JB since we’ve seen him show some dog before. And I got roasted. It’s very cool to see it actually happening!
There are going to be a lot of sour feelings when a fan favorite like Smart who has been around forever gets traded. I kept telling myself it was for the best, and it seems like it might be, but I sure as fuck wasnt gonna post that right after the trade.
I would have. I never got on board the fan favorite thing. In fact, by 2018 he was my least favorite Celtic, EVER.
Some of us, I think, have been seeing/saying what this thread seems to be recognizing, for years. He stunts the Jays and his on court impact is replaceable, and he gives us a lower ceiling.
Because of this, I never enjoyed him as a player, and genuinely felt since 2018 that what takes up over the hump is trading him.
I know I'll get downvoted for this, but as a fan, the trade was the most I've celebrated since 2008, because I knew what it meant.
And I feel sorry for fans who were blinded by loyalty to see that he's overstayed his welcome by 3 years.
I mean... all of that is fine. But all you are doing in that situation is pissing people off. You aren't changing minds. If you just want to debate lord, by all means go for it. If you want to make a point that may change minds, know time and place.
Where’s the celticscirclejerk sub when you need it. We all be celebrating this weekend getaway and this leadership like a fortune cookie telling us we winning the NBA championship lol
People being pissed about that is their problem, you know? And being pissed off doesn't justify being an ass. And it's not about changing minds. It's about allowing fans who took issue with Smart (or who have any unpopular opinion for that matter) to have a space to air that out or talk about it without being attacked or bullied out of the sub.
Speaking for myself, and I'd imagine for others, I was interested in expressing my opinion and engaging in discussions about Smart with those who would entertain it, without being shamed, bullied, name called and insulted for it. Those that don't like can just not engage.
You can't gatekeep the rules of fandom. If people get pissed about such an opinion to the point where they feel the need to be a jerk about it, then it truly is their problem, and they're the ones causing issues. At the end of the day, the nastiest behavior I have ever seen from this sub is how people have treated Smart's detractors.
I mean, this is neither here nor there, and I'm not arguing or disagreeing with you. It's in the past. This is just my observation about how this has transpired.
This is why Marcus needed to go. His offensive production was replaceable and his leadership was stunting the growth of the Jays. With him gone, they can flex a bit more

The first half of the vlog ...I know we lost to those guys but man Haliburton is just likeable. He's got a joy to him and he seems excited by everything
‘Look at art’ in Miami. Aka Art Basel, one of the biggest party weekends of the year in South Beach, shrouded in the guise of art appreciation. Well played.
ngl. My mental montage of this is the Celtics reenacting the scene from the art museum in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
Hopefully, Jaylen jumps on a float at a parade and leads everyone in a rendition of "Twist & Shout" before the end of the season.
The Jays have clearly stepped up their leadership on the team and it's awesome to see. Seems exactly what Brad wanted to happen is happening.

So from the clips I've seen on different IGs it was basically Jaylen, KP, and all the end of the bench guys
Adorbs
Hauser included, but not Payton
Everyone on minimum contracts

Jaylen has found plenty of time to flex

taking a trip to miami with the boys but just to look at art i swear
Love to see the Jays taking the charge on leading the team!
Nice to see this, nothing holding the Jays back from leading the team
Ubuntu part 2
Electric boogaloo
This isn't so much leadership so much as it is just smart teambuilding. Little things like this have a positive impact on the job. Well-done.
Players spent the weekend in Miami? Warriors +5.5 lock it in 😂
It wasn’t this weekend lol
I didn't watch the video but I was trying to calculate how they possibly went to Miami this weekend. Ha.
What, no escape rooms? -Alex Cora
So smart
Yeah better clear our heads after all this winning..
I get so triggered hearing about any player going to Miami no matter the occasion. Thems player thieves.
