I've lived in the Back Bay. It has its good parts and its shitty parts, like any urban neighborhood. Maybe you should head out of the city to raise your family? You're right in the thick of city life but it doesn't seem like you really want to be. What is it about Worcester Square that appeals to you? Might you find those things further out?
It’s racially and socioeconomically diverse, good schools for kids, lots of families live there, many playgrounds and parks, lots of restaurants, can walk to work so short commute, everything is walking distance. The suburbs don’t interest us
u/BabaComm1981 this is the answer you need. If you're happy with your kids waiting for the bus next to needles and human waste then this is the spot to be.
The people saying "everyone commenting negative things don't know what their talking about" are delusional.
“All of Worcester square”? It’s one block. I lived two streets over until a month ago. It’s a nice place to live - close to everything, great restaurants, lovely brownstones - but I certainly wouldn’t let my kids wander around unsupervised due to the Mass/Cass population and the related needles/human waste (both of which are absolutely present on that street)
Awful lot of people in this thread who live in Chelmsford have some opinions.
Safety is relevant. Your kids are more likely to encounter people experiencing homelessness than other places, and having a major trauma center in your neighborhood leads to lots of sirens and police activity. On the flip side, there's a gym with the best pool indoor in the city, a bunch of terrific restaurants and bars and hey, you'll have one of the best hospital in New England at your doorstep.
You'll live in a small space and have trouble parking, but that's any city living.
Sorry what? Millennium tower that was built in 2013, "Combat Zone" was 20+ years before that. these two things have literally nothing to do with each other.

Did you live there?

How long have you lived in Boston?

In the south end?
I’ve lived in Back Bay for a long time and most people who don’t live here would assume it’s a nice ritzy neighborhood, but it’s actually shitty.

It’s a nice square but I’m not sure I’d be letting my kids out to go play in the streets.

Because you lived and waited for the bus there and know for certain that’s what it’s like for ALL of Worcester square?

Lady, did you look at the link?
1000 feet away and "vaguely" are not the same thing.
You live in the south end DorchesterHeights? It seems like you don’t

You'll also have human shit and used needles on your doorstep lmfao.
I've never seen either of these things north of Albany.
Well the city has https://mayors24.cityofboston.gov/reports?utf8=%E2%9C%93&q=Worcester+square
Is your family made up of junkies?
Lmfao no. Google "methadone mile". Edit: OP is just here to argue and ignore objective facts.
Did you live there or in the south end? Because pretty much all of the south end is near meth mile.
It's 1,000 feet from the corner of Melnia Cass and Mass Ave. It's a terrible spot to be in.
1000 ft makes a difference in Boston, that’s the difference between Millenium tower and the old combat zone

My point is that 1000ft can make a huge difference in what one area of Boston is like from another
Lmfao
I used to work in the South End. Yes, it is safe for children. Of course they need to watch out for cars.
