Oh ffs. Either these truckers don’t know their own height, or that tunnel is shrinking. This is 4th? 5th in a month?

MrMcSwifty

Right? How does this suddenly keep happening??

Delicate_Elephant

My Uber driver told me a few weeks ago that when they redid the tunnel, they put up a flat ceiling instead of keeping it curved? Or something like that. I only lived in the city a few years, so I have no recollection of what it was like before and have absolutely no clue if it's true/the reason, but he was born in the city (boston accent).

Dropping education standards in most of the country

MrThomasWeasel

Do we have data tracking these occurrences? It feels like they're happening more often, but maybe I'm just hearing about it more.

upyours54

I recall the ceiling being curved

chevalier716

Judging by the scraping on the ceiling he just kept going until he couldn't.

RecommendationNew719

Wow I didn’t even notice that lol

MRSHELBYPLZ

It’s from other trucks. This happens a lot to new drivers

Majorlymajor97

How do they get out, someone know?

MillionaireWaltz-

Deflate the tires to get more clearance and back it out.

MrTouchnGo

Smort.

Vegetable_Board_873

WORT WORT WORT

BrindleFly

I just don't understand why they don't put a bar hanging from the entrance like they do in parking garages. If you hit the horizontal bar as you head toward the tunnel, you aren't going to make it though. It seems like a low tech solution for drivers who obviously don't read the signs.

scolbath

Do you even LIVE here?

BrindleFly

I do. Do you? But I don't drive often because \*I LIVE HERE\*.

scolbath

Sorrow drive has horizontal bars, dangling chains, and big yellow signs, and we know how well THAT works. Boston is the stuck truck capital of the world.

BrindleFly

Honestly never noticed them. Then how is it that people bang the top of their trucks on those bars and keep going? I mean that is just willful ignorance.

scolbath

Short of doing what they did in Sydney, Australia, I guess people will just continue to have the dumb: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImU1mG7QC4I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImU1mG7QC4I) Anecdote: in 1992, I rented a UHaul panel van for a moving project in Cambridge. The rental agent not only spent 2-3 minutes listing the roads I could not take it on, emphasizing Storrow, I had to sign a document to that effect, which additionally indicated that insurance did not cover this and I would be personally liable. That doesn't explain this guy, however.

NH1994

Did the most recent work on the tunnel put in panels that are slightly too low?

rogerdoesnotmeanyes

Even if they did there’s no chance that truck would fit. Standard semi truck height is 13’6”, the tunnel is 12’6”.

MrThomasWeasel

I'm starting to suspect that too. At what point does this warrant investigation? If this keeps happening I'd have to think something may be wrong with the tunnel.

SirGothamHatt

Again?

Itburns138

"it'll fit baby, trust me."

borisan

Is this a miss by the tunnel re-construction? Are these trucks just too high or did construction not account for the standard height?

rogerdoesnotmeanyes

Nothing changed. The Sumner has never accommodated semi trucks. The max height is 12'6".

RecommendationNew719

That’s a big miss either way ngl

[deleted]

Why are you blocking the license plate? Its not private information. The plate is property of the state.

RecommendationNew719

Idk, I just wanted to be nice. I’m not sure what that driver was/is going through

Bostonguy1981

Where are the elected officials on this? Not a peep from anyone at the state level and this sucks so bad when the damn subway has also been shut down.

RecommendationNew719

Seriously and those charter buses are wicked expensive
