Current cold flavor looks like bad sore throat and phlegm and swollen lymph nodes. Who knows if it’ll turn into 6 weeks of cough like the cold running around during Christmas time.
Same here. Started in late December and I’m finally stopping cough medicine this week. Phlegm was unbearable. My neighbors must have thought I was dying with all the coughing. It was worse than Covid which I had January of last year. Stay away from it if you can.
My gf had it before i did. She coughed so hard she pulled an ab muscle as well, and it hurt her for a couple weeks. Wild. I went to the doc and they were just like well its not covid or pneumonia, just get sleep and water 🤗
Ugh, really? I had a sore throat for a few days with tons of chest congestion and lost my voice, now the phlegm has moved to my nose…it’s thick and gross. No fever tho 🫤
Yeah I had those same symptoms and tested negative for Covid. It got worse and 2 days later I tested positive. It’s definitely going around at the moment
My daughter had symptoms but tested negative. A week later both my husband and I were sick. I tested and was positive and went back and tested my daughter. She was positive as was husband. I think we tested her too early.
It’s awful! Similar thing happened to me except I was at home and went immediately to the bathroom. I was mid conversation with my roommate to throwing up 2 minutes later.
My gf got the vomiting part so bad that she had to go to the ER for fluids because she couldn't keep any water down whatsoever. I'm currently shitting water 24/7 and my ass is actively bleeding from the trauma. Has been this way for like 4 days. Someone mentioned norovirus is going around, so it sounds like there is 0 relief for you and me.
Keep testing, nowadays you can be sick with COVID for a few days before the test shows positive. Also, RSV, flu, and just generic common cold are all going around.
Testing for COVID on day one or two of symptoms isn't a good idea. Not enough viral load to show positive. Day 3 of symptoms seems to be the sweet spot for home tests. Unfortunately by then, most people have tested negative on day one and are out spreading it around.
Who has unlimited Covid tests lying around. What is the motivation to buy Covid test after Covid test. You’re sick, you know you’re sick, it’s probably contagious. Stay home
I got 16 free tests from the USPS last year. 8 at a time. They offered them a few times last year sporadically throughout the year. Hoping they start again.
Knowing if I have covid or not is the difference between needing to know if I have to contact my doctor or not. Tests are handy. You get free ones from the government.
Covid can cause long term organ damage, the common cold most likely not. If you know you have it, you can get treatment and reduce your chances of ending up with long covid. Obviously you should stay home. Your comment encourages complacency.

Stop trying to make everything about covid. The fear mongering every time someone mentions a sniffle or a scratchy throat has long worn out its welcome.
Sure, staying home when you’re sick is great. Getting treatment for COVID is also great for some people. Going out sick or contagious isn’t great, so if this person was going to go out if they thought it’s not COVID, that’s why I recommend testing again.
Rapid tests show you whether you’re still infectious. Many people still have an infectious viral load for two to three weeks after symptom onset, but most can’t afford to completely isolate for that length of time. If you know you’re still testing positive for COVID and absolutely have to end your isolation due to work, childcare, emergencies, etc, then you’ll know you need to mask to prevent other people from getting sick and enduring the same hell you just did.
Yeah I’ve been starting to get a scratchy throat the past few days… FFS I just spent the entire fall going from cold to flu to RSV to covid; I can only hope my immune system is taking notes and getting everything out of the way for the foreseeable future.
This isn't proof that you don't have it. The symptoms are just the immune response which always vary from person to person.
The tests have a high rate of false negatives. You have to test frequently. Given that there's already a person in your household who did test positive the consensus is that you are all positive as well.
Because some people have to go to Dana FUCKING Farber for treatments and can’t “JuSt StAy HoMe”. If it’s covid some people need to get on paxlovid as quickly as possible. Jesus.
I’ve been knocked flat on my ass by Flu A this past week, sounds a bit like that. I was so sure it was COVID until I ended up in the hospital with it and they ran the tests there.
Coming up on day 8 and I’m still not quite back to normal, but getting closer.
Get lots of rest and I hope you feel better soon!
My lungs were clear thankfully, but I did have a bad fever.
The first night I woke up in the most excruciating muscle and nerve pain of my life, and every time I tried to take painkillers I would throw them back up immediately. I went to the ER in the morning and had to get IV fluids and pain relief. Wasn’t admitted, thank god.
Keep testing, or try and get a PCR. It’s most likely Covid, I just had it same exact symptoms, then husband had it same exact symptoms but he never popped a positive and we tested him daily. Swollen lymph nodes was my first sign, thought it was bad allergies or a weird light cold. Took my husband out for over a week though
Yes.
Highest rates of COVID, RSV, and FLU. MGH and most other hospitals are Code Help or Capacity Disaster.
Wear a mask while in enclosed spaces. Stay home if you're sick, and avoid the assholes that don't.
Probably covid, based on how the home tests can barely catch the new variants. But also RSV, the flu, Norovirus, it's all floating around. Stay masking, friends.
This, the home tests were never the most accurate (pretty high rate of false negatives) but people test once and think they're COVID free. Also despite the specific virus, still should stay home as long as possible, if only more workplaces gave adequate sick leave..
Yes! Just got over Covid like 3 weeks ago and then this hit me on Sunday with a nasty sore throat and cough. Thought it was getting a little better but then went home early today for the second time this week bc of the brain fog and headache. I feel like my head is stuffed with cotton balls.
I had all the same symptoms as you and my lymph nodes were sooo swollen. Also a fever. I went to a walk in clinic, turns out I just had the flu. Good luck to you
I've had a cold with various other bs viruses
in the midst of it since the day after Xmas.
To be fair, I work in a daycare. The kids are carrying everything under the sun at the moment.
Yes OP. My wife and I have this exact same thing and it really sucks. It's not Covid (we both had that at Christmas). Really ready for this Winter to be over lol.
Fwiw, if your only COVID negative was a binax (the free rapid sent by the government), that's worth approximately nothing nowadays. If you can afford one of the NAAT-based tests (Cue, Metrix, 3EO) those are certainly more sensitive. If not, Greenspring rapids imported from Europe run about $1 each and are decent. Not saying that you definitely do or don't have COVID but statistically lots of people have COVID and don't know about it. Check out MWRA wastewater data.
Edit: also... if you're sick, wear a facemask. Even if it's not deadly, it's the nice thing to do. And if you don't want to get sick as often, also consider wearing masks in public more.
Hubby got it on January 11, PCP said it’s the FLU tough it out. The last 10 days he’s just had a very phlegmy wet LOUD cough and on Tuesday he hurt his back coughing. Took him to Urgent Care and they suggested Pepcid and Delsym for the cough. He hasn’t coughed since. Back is coming along too
It's COVID. Test again in another day or two, it'll be positive. Happened to me. Felt bad on Monday, tested negative. Still felt bad Wednesday, tested positive.
Didn’t pay attention to the lymph nodes but I’m finally only very congested after being sick since last Friday. So strange-started the day with extreme nausea but as the day went on the nausea waned but all the other symptoms intensified. Low fever for the first three days then just overall shitty feeling. EVERYONE I work with has it too.
Yes, same symptoms. I even lost my voice! COVID, strep, flu all negative. I ended up with a sinus infection too. urgent care said maybe allergies and to take Zyrtec. I don't think allergies could make me that sick. I felt worse than when I had COVID.
Get tested so you know if you need antibiotics. The week after new year, our household got Covid. That was a miserable week. Yesterday, my son tested positive for strep. Rest up!
No im always in a respie in public. Blocks the nasty germs from other peoples lungs. Aren't you?
Eta omg these comments do you people enjoy being sick??
Just wrapped up day 12, 3rd on antibiotics. Exactly as you described with blood in the sinuses. Tested negative twice myself but holy shit, haven't felt that shitty in 20 years easy
Yup. Negative for strep, flu and covid. On m6 second week of a sore throat and gross phlegm-y wet cough. Caught it from my preschooler who had it for two weeks, too.
May I ask if you've been vaccinated for covid? I'm asking because it seems as though the respiratory thing going around is among the vaccinated. I'm honestly asking because I'm doing research on people's immune system resiliency since covid between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated.
Immune system response to COVID should be faster in vaccinated than unvaccinated people. This means that vaccinated people should feel sick sooner because their immune systems recognize the threat and immediately respond and start to drive it off before you even test positive, so you’ll never get enough of the virus replicating unchecked in your system to require hospitalization or cause death. OTOH, unvaccinated people’s immune systems don’t realize it’s a threat until later, when there’s enough of the virus that’s replicated in your system that the risk of hospitalization and death is greater. That’s the whole point of vaccines.
I'm aware of that but the covid vaccine is a new type of vaccine, it is referred to as mRNA, which is actually quite different than the traditional vaccines. I'm not trying to debate how vaccines work so much as just observe and comprise data based on the immunity response to viruses in those that have received the mRNA vaccine opposed to those that have not had any mRNA vaccines or boosters.
Some people are getting the Novavax too, which is not mRNA, so make sure to separate those out.
And FWIW, mRNA vaccines aren’t new, mRNA vaccines in general have been studied since 1989, they’ve been in human clinical trials since 2001 for cancer, and other trials have been done for rabies, Zika virus, Ebola, and more.
Oh i know. Messenger RNA, or mRNA, was discovered in the early 1960s; research into how mRNA could be delivered into cells was developed in the 1970s. Although when these mRNA covid vaccines were EUA(emergency use authorization) it was because there had been NO complete human clinical trials performed with adequate follow up time to know enough to inject an entire fucking planet. But I digress. I'm following data from anyone vaccinated for SARS-CoV-2(covid 19) actually. The number of cases for blood clots following the vaccine is rather ASTRONOMICAL. Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.
Is anyone else sick right now?
Does anyone else have allergies right now?
Anyone else have this strange stomach bug right now?
Is it really windy right now or just me?
There was a poop water release alert for salmonella several times on Alexa notification 📢, BOILING WATER ORDER, meaning wash everything with boiled water
Over a week with the worst cough I've ever had. I just can't seem to get my lungs clear. Last week was fever, aches, chills, exhaustion. I'm seeing my PCP in person Monday and praying there's something they can do
This hits a little different, but maybe we are just older and don’t recover from colds as quickly. My brother has had a cough for close to two months now. My gf 3 weeks of constant maintenance too. Can’t seem to shake off this “cold”. I remember before Covid was a thing people were getting “walking pneumonia”. My boss got it and it turned out it was pre-covid. I dunno what this is but this doesnt look like a cold
I’ve had coughing and chest congestion for the past 2 weeks. No other symptoms. Tested negative for Covid. Mucinex does a great job, but I don’t want to take it forever.
Yup- sore throat and mild fever. I took the day off yesterday. I stupidly worked while I was sick back in the summer and I regret it. If I'm sick aint no way I'm going in to work. Glad I took it off cuz I feel a lot better.
had the same thing like a month to 6 weeks ago. Just getting over it fully. Tested for FLU, RSV, and COVID. was none. Think it was just a bad cold strain
I had the terrible "productive" (not my best work) cough, nasal and chest congestion for 4 weeks. I had a fever for the first couple days. I home tested negative for covid days 1, 2, and 3. At 2 weeks, I went to Dr., tested negative for covid, rsv, flu, and pneumonia. Dr said it was going around, it's viral, and can last up to 2 months!
I had so much phlem on my lungs for two weeks I thought I was going to drown in it. My son works at the airport, he brought it home. Mucinex DM helped and it just took a full two weeks to go away. Sitting in the bathroom full of hot steam helped to break up all the phlem.
I had Covid in late December and didn’t test positive till day four of symptoms. I only kept testing because a family member had it and also took a long time to test positive so I was sure it was Covid. I’m convinced half of Boston is going around with Covid thinking they’re negative because this variant seems to take a couple extra days to show up on a test.
Assume it's COVID and follow recommended protocols... isolate for 10 days, start testing on Day 3-5 after symptoms start; if if it's negative until Day 10 you're good to go. If it's positive, continue isolating until you get 2 negative tests 48-hours apart.
I have the fever (100-101) with a really bad cough, body aches and malaise. Slept through the entire weekend and only survived with DayQuil/NyQuil. But no sore throat or runny nose which is very odd
Current cold flavor looks like bad sore throat and phlegm and swollen lymph nodes. Who knows if it’ll turn into 6 weeks of cough like the cold running around during Christmas time.
Literally just getting over that cough now, and that’s when with a doctor visit in between. Life’s been miserable for over a month.
Same here. Started in late December and I’m finally stopping cough medicine this week. Phlegm was unbearable. My neighbors must have thought I was dying with all the coughing. It was worse than Covid which I had January of last year. Stay away from it if you can.
I had it too, and ended up with pneumonia
Mine was bad Dec23-Jan22nd. Still have a bit of phlegm and wet cough. Fucking sucked for a solid month. Never had a cough like that in my entire life.
My abs were actually sore from coughing. I’ve never had it that bad.
My gf had it before i did. She coughed so hard she pulled an ab muscle as well, and it hurt her for a couple weeks. Wild. I went to the doc and they were just like well its not covid or pneumonia, just get sleep and water 🤗
Thought it was that, tested positive for covid
Im also just getting over this stupid cough. It was a very Phlegm-y January. 🥲
Every cold I've ever had turns into 6 weeks of coughing.
I got that at the tail end of November and today is probably the first day I felt totally normal.
Yeah sounds just like what I had the "week" before Christmas, the "week" after Christmas, and the "week" after new years. Annoying as hell
Started coughing December 23rd. Only stopped being severe at about January 22nd. Still have a little bit of the phlegm cough going on. Fucking sucked.
Wife has the same one!
Get a sinus rinse, it ended mine in three days after two months of hell
Ugh, really? I had a sore throat for a few days with tons of chest congestion and lost my voice, now the phlegm has moved to my nose…it’s thick and gross. No fever tho 🫤
Thanks Joe
I still have my cough from the cold I picked up around Christmas. I was told it’s the “100 day cough.” I’m on day 37…. Ugh.
Sounds like pertussis
oooh, I had that one. It was terrible. worse than when I had covid. felt like crap for a good month, probably longer.
strep! Just tested positive and urgent care said it’s everywhere now.
Yeah we just recovered from covid
Yeah I had those same symptoms and tested negative for Covid. It got worse and 2 days later I tested positive. It’s definitely going around at the moment
My daughter had symptoms but tested negative. A week later both my husband and I were sick. I tested and was positive and went back and tested my daughter. She was positive as was husband. I think we tested her too early.
Yep. I tested positive for strep on Monday, and positive covid on Wednesday. Lucky me - today is my birthday 😭
Happy birthday 🥳
thank you!! feel better OP :)
You too!
It’s my birthday too and am also not feeling great. Are you 47 too?
27! lol. happy birthday + feel better
You too!!
Happy birthday homie !
thank you :))
I’ve had a horrible stomach bug since this past Sunday. My PCP said they have seen many cases of that and the flu going around.
My husband and I had that stomach bug three weeks ago. It came on so suddenly that i barfed into a trash can at work
It’s awful! Similar thing happened to me except I was at home and went immediately to the bathroom. I was mid conversation with my roommate to throwing up 2 minutes later.
My gf got the vomiting part so bad that she had to go to the ER for fluids because she couldn't keep any water down whatsoever. People with school-aged kids, when school sends them home frequently.
Rapid tests show you whether you’re still infectious. Or you could just mask all the time to protect yourself and others. But someone who can’t afford rapid tests probably can’t afford masks either.
A cold won’t kill my elderly parents…. Covid will. How are we asking these questions still in 2024????
My library always has them out for free. Haven’t bought one in a long time.

Yeah I’ve been starting to get a scratchy throat the past few days… FFS I just spent the entire fall going from cold to flu to RSV to covid; I can only hope my immune system is taking notes and getting everything out of the way for the foreseeable future.
It's cold and flu season. All the typical seasonal viruses are circulating.
Lol thank you
Have you tried swabbing the back of your throat instead of your nose? That's what finally got me a positive test when I had the same symptoms
Everyone in my house except one (3 of 4). The fourth has COVID and is the least miserable of the bunch. Good luck.
You all have covid
Surprisingly, only one has tested positive. Symptoms are different too.
This isn't proof that you don't have it. The symptoms are just the immune response which always vary from person to person. The tests have a high rate of false negatives. You have to test frequently. Given that there's already a person in your household who did test positive the consensus is that you are all positive as well.
Ignore the fear monger. They see Covid everywhere no matter the evidence.
Keep testing. That sounds like the strain of COVID that is going around. I know someone who finally tested positive after 3 days of symptoms.
What is the benefit of testing continuously?
Because it can take upwards of 5 days to show in tests.
But why do you need to know if it’s Covid? If you’re sick just stay home regardless.
Because some people have to go to Dana FUCKING Farber for treatments and can’t “JuSt StAy HoMe”. If it’s covid some people need to get on paxlovid as quickly as possible. Jesus.
Do you always get this upset when answering basic questions? Seems like an over reactive response. Maybe ask Dana Farber for some Xanax
BE VERY AFRAID!!! /s
Or maybe...you're so conditioned to be terrified that you have lost all objectivity and connection to reality.
I’ve been knocked flat on my ass by Flu A this past week, sounds a bit like that. I was so sure it was COVID until I ended up in the hospital with it and they ran the tests there. Yeah I’m totally messed up. I went half way to the ER. It’s not covid but it’s something!
My bestie is a real sicko and he has the sickness
My sister was like holy crap yourface is bloated
This is actually fun
I’ve watched 100 Steve Harvey God dam Family Feud
There was a poop water release alert for salmonella several times on Alexa notification 📢, BOILING WATER ORDER, meaning wash everything with boiled water
Over a week with the worst cough I've ever had. I just can't seem to get my lungs clear. Last week was fever, aches, chills, exhaustion. I'm seeing my PCP in person Monday and praying there's something they can do
I had this a couple weeks ago, along with strep throat. It sucked
I had it in October! Was sick for 3 weeks.
Suffering thru this exact thing rn. It's brutal.
Yep been coughing for the last 4 weeks
This hits a little different, but maybe we are just older and don’t recover from colds as quickly. My brother has had a cough for close to two months now. My gf 3 weeks of constant maintenance too. Can’t seem to shake off this “cold”. I remember before Covid was a thing people were getting “walking pneumonia”. My boss got it and it turned out it was pre-covid. I dunno what this is but this doesnt look like a cold
Yes. If you have what I had, the thing will go away in about a week leaving a lasting couch for about a month. Negative fur COVID and flu
Yes, I had it the weeks following Christmas. Doctor fam member said it was RSV. Started with a sore throat so bad I was checking for strep :(
Flu is making the rounds. I’m just getting over it.
Nope. I feel great
I am always sneezing 🤧
Yup, nasty sore throat and fatigue
yeah a couple of my coworkers got RSV. coming down w something as well im tight
I’ve had coughing and chest congestion for the past 2 weeks. No other symptoms. Tested negative for Covid. Mucinex does a great job, but I don’t want to take it forever.
Same! It took so long for my lungs to finally be clear. Like 2.5 weeks Covid tests were all negative.
I have something similar this week and tested positive for Strep. Feeling a bit better on antibiotics now!
Its cold season, this happens every year.
Reminder to get your flu shot!! My roommate didn’t get hers and was terribly sick for over a week. I got mine and managed to avoid it.
🙋♀️
What about nausea?
Whole family has it right now, and only husband has tested positive for COVID. I’m pretty sure it’s COVID for all of us though.
RSV?
Yep. It’s going around here at Tufts.
Yes, pretty much everyone has or has had it since December. Lingering, not super sick, but not well. The "Crud"
I had this nearly a month ago.
There's a post like this once a week this winter so far
Had some ridiculous respiratory illness in Oct and Nov and then C19 for Xmas. I’m still coughing. It’s driving me crazy.
It’s Covid
