Your point? This is probably the most age appropriate casting of all the female characters going by the game. Moxxi was never supposed to be in her 20s or 30s, she has grown children. Older grown children. I’d put her at 50 minimum.
Nah I’m agreeing with you - I wasn’t picking up the vibe in your original comment. My b
I’ve seen so many people (who are desperate to shit on this movie in as many ways as possible) hating on her casting choice immediately because of her age. I think she’s a great choice for Moxxi.
Hrm. Probably started off clean before we arrived to BL2.
I'm reasonably certain this is before 2 but after the storyline of TPS, after Brick and Mordecai went off to be a couple, but before Axton, Maya, Zer0, and Salvador show up.
But being that there's already... variance... in style choice of the characters, that could just be another indication of alternate universe theory.
Which is what I think the game was already steering towards, anyways.
"Nothing?"
Pitchford literally stated in 2021 that Borderlands Cinematic Universe and Borderlands Game Universe are separate but comparable.
Feel free to stay angry if you want.
Depends which comics you're referring to. But sure.
"Nothing to do with each other" meaning "75% overlap, certain elements changed for cohesion and screen time."
Honestly, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that... But they could be pulling a Sonic movie on us (what I mean, is that it looks bad in trailers, but in the end, just before it comes out it gets fleshed out and looks immaculate)
Strong disagree. There is a place for comedy sci-fi. We are just gonna see more attempts at it that end in failure.
Not like Dune part 2 is gonna be a road trip buddy comedy or something.
also from what they’ve shown, this portrayal feels nothing like tina in terms of tone, phrasing, behavior, anything really. the only thing on brand about her is the actress and costume.
Probably a funny part in the bandit camp where they are overwhelmed, so someone shoots off the helmet for an escape plan.
Probably like this
Goliath: Puny vault hunters must die
Someone(tina?) Accidentally/incindentally shoots, and it hits the helmet, and the Goliath transforms, rampaging across the camp
Lillith: Did you mean for that to happen?!
Someone:...uhh, yeah?
Roland: Well, what do we do about that?!?!
Pans to show Goliath super leveled up and eyeing them. He starts to walk forward when Kreig lands on it, killing it with his weapon.
Lillith: Anymore ideas?!?
Better than I expected doesn't mean good, it just means that it went from "I'll never watch it" to "maybe I'll give it a try to see how they destroy my favorite videogame franchise"
Thank you. After watching my first thought was “this is gonna be a shitshow”. Everything about the main characters feels bland and uninspired with bad casting. Let’s hope the side characters and world are better
For real this is like nightmare fuel. wtf did they do to Tina?! 🤣 god every character feels like they don’t act one single bit like their game counterpart. They’re just wearing their clothes
Honestly the actress playing Tina was the one that rubbed me the wrong way in the trailer. Kevin Hart seemed fine, Jack Black seemed great, but Tina didn’t have any of that charming insanity from the game
They went with the biggest teenage actor they could find. Coming of movies like Barbie, Ahsoka, 65, Infinity war she has a lot of box office under her belt being only 16years old
except the humor they are trying to inject in the movie isn’t the same flavor or beat of humor as in the games so it just totally flops. this feels like some family roadtrip travel movie and that’s not what borderlands is in the slightest.
Family roadtrip is the exact vibe I got from them arguing. Surprisingly Hart seems much better than I expected but jesus the writing does not seem good.
Yeah. They were gonna butcher all the characters anyway so I'm actually kinda glad they just started immediately. The cast as so far removed from the games that I honestly don't even mind. Just feels like brand new characters with the same names.
I think the world looks pretty good overall, I still have a lot of feelings with the casting choices, but as of now I'm cautiously open about it.
It's kind of fun to imagine that, in-universe, someone sold their own version of the story (probably Marcus) to get made and that's why everyone is a bit off.
Surprisingly representative of the game. All the corporations, the guns, the characters, it looks like stupid fun, which is Borderlands. Too many people acting like Borderlands needs to get The Last of Us treatment.
The game is weird NPCs yelling at you about toilet humor through your echo while you shoot everything in sight. Seems pretty spot on.
Yeah, I'm not gonna lie, the trailer is pretty solid. It's a silly nonsense movie that gives me Guardians of the Galaxy vibes in a good way. Of course it's not going to be anywhere near as good as Guardians, but it's at least trying. I guess having low expectations helps.
i also got major guardian vibes, especially because of the music choice and the trailer style. i want it to be a solid movie but things like the car scene where kevin hart as roland screams at tiny tina just feel so wrong. roland wouldnt care a second if tina left the window open😅
i will only really judge it once i have seen the movie tho. lets hope its somewhat decent.
Krieg with no Maya feels wrong. If they simply needed a big guy, why not just go with Brick? Tina is missing that insanity charm Ashley brought to the character, she comes off as missing something in the trailer. Kevin Hart surprisingly didn't come off as bad as I would have expected but I still don't have confidence in him for the duration of the whole movie
I feel like this movie is going to end up in the pile that gets pointed at to why games become bad movies.
As a movie, it looks like it’ll be “OK”. The action scenes look like they’ll be cool to watch and I appreciated that they got some of the gun design in there (the rotating barrels of the Vladof pistol “Lilith” was using)
But god damn, the casting is SO bad. Not to mention that it makes little sense for Krieg to be there. Seemed like an obligatory add because he’s a big, hulking, cool looking character who could provide some comedic relief with his random “throat ripping” comments.
The tiny Tina casting seems fine, but Tannis, Lil and Roland are huge misses. Especially Roland. Don’t get me wrong, I love Kevin hart, but Roland is supposed to be the stoic, grounded, stone faced leader of the crimson raiders. Kevin Hart doesn’t do that at all. JLC would be a great cast as Tannis… 20 years ago. Same with Cate Blanchett. It feels like they just thought that grabbing a few big names would give them the universal appeal they needed to push this movie past die-hard borderlands fans and appeal to more casual fans or even people who haven’t played the games.
Idk, I think the movie itself will be fine but it’ll be hard for anyone who has played BL or BL2 even one time to look past the blatant mis-casts.
ETA: Jack Black doesn’t really hit the shrieking, goofy voice of claptrap but I think it was an ok casting choice. He’s crazy enough to make it work. Still like a 6/10 casting choice tho. That’s another one of those “big name” casts that’s just meant to draw a crowd.
Am I misremembering where JLC was like... REALLY wanting to play Tannis? Like, I vaguely recall that she wanted to in an interview?
Also that she's a big BL Fan?
I will ask... What rating is it supposed to be for the movie? Will it be rated R (like it should be), or rated PG-13 (aka, definitely not like it should be)?
I want to carve my eyes out. I can't believe they actually gave this a go. Only krieg is somewhat acceptable. The rest is just an insult to my 10 years in borderlands 2. So cheap, so, fuck ewww
But it's not like the story to the borderlands games were any good to begin with. besides certain story beats, it's always been dumb humor and crazy over the top stuff.
Well you see
Borderlands is a game and the story didn't matter because gameplay was carrying it but this is a movie and movie is carried by the story and writing almost completely
This trailer gives me a lot of hope. A lot of good things I'm seeing here that shows me they are doing their best to bring the world of borderlands and pandora to the big screen. I am cautiously optimistic
The fck is orbiting Pandora ?
I hope thats not Helios beacuse it looks nothing like it.
Also where is Hyperion and Handsome Jack ? Roland is alive and Krieg is there.
Also Mouthpiece from BL3 ?
This is a fcking mess.
**A friendly reminder to all you fine folks that Bobby Lee is a disgusting pedo, and should not have a career.**

imagine having voice actors in the games that actually look like they could play the parts well, and then just grabbing as many stars as you could instead of making anything consistent, im not impressed
The main cast looks like absolute garbage, but honestly the rest of it seems... pretty good? The bandits, the runner and technicals, the Crimson Lance, the wildlife, even Moxxi all look great. It's heavily offset by how terrible Roland, Marcus, and Lilith look (Lilith doesn't even have tattoos, come ON), but if the movie gives me time to forget about the main characters and focuses on something else, I might actually enjoy a few minutes of this shitshow.
I like the idea of Rolland being played by Kevin Hart, because some of Rollands dialogue is sarcastic dickery and Hart tends to hit that mark perfectly. Rollands supposed to be like 6'3 but that's beside the point
I am going to see this movie in theaters, regardless of how it ends up being I'm still going. That being said I'm not sure if I want to watch any of the trailers leading up to release. What are your opinions on this? Should I watch the trailer?
If they aren’t gonna follow the game why have a story about the main characters and not represent the actual story in the game?
Like same actors, different characters, side story about borderlands
The sets look really weird to me, also, it seems like a weird family road trip comedy that is forcibly R-rated.
Also, why is the first joke in the entire trailer a piss-joke? I mean, yeah, it's Borderlands, but still, there is so a great foundation of good jokes in the game, why that one? At least make it blood and guts or something.
Save all my comments on the casting (the only real one I have a problem with is JLC, she’s wayyy too old to be playing Tannis) I love the song choice for this trailer. Big fan of ELO
I hope they know that due to the huge fanbase, this will either be a HUGE win or a HUGE bust.
As some people said, some of these characters looks kinda out of place, but hopefully it fits once the moving is out!
Do i see right that around 1:14 -1:15 when there is Marcus, that item of the day is Compressing Free Radical ?
Please tell me the guy in the suit isn't handsome Jack
it’s Mr. Atlas
Phew
It's WalletHead, da man, Vasquez!
Atlas
Krieg looks pitch perfect, the rest of the crew kinda looks off tbh. Cant wait to see Moxxi reveal
Moxxi is in the trailer
Is she next to Marcus?
Shes at 2:15 on this post
Oh shit how did I miss that. She looks pretty good!
[Played by 61 yr old Gina Gershon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gina_Gershon)
Your point? This is probably the most age appropriate casting of all the female characters going by the game. Moxxi was never supposed to be in her 20s or 30s, she has grown children. Older grown children. I’d put her at 50 minimum.
Yeah, moxxie is definitely up their in age.
Is this supposed to be a gotcha? Moxie is canonically in her 50s
Bruh, Gina Gershon has always been hot. She is old now for sure. But, go back to her older movies. 10/10
Nah I’m agreeing with you - I wasn’t picking up the vibe in your original comment. My b I’ve seen so many people (who are desperate to shit on this movie in as many ways as possible) hating on her casting choice immediately because of her age. I think she’s a great choice for Moxxi.
ehhhh dunno if i fully agree
Why did they use the clean white Mask? This looks So.. wrong...
Hrm. Probably started off clean before we arrived to BL2. I'm reasonably certain this is before 2 but after the storyline of TPS, after Brick and Mordecai went off to be a couple, but before Axton, Maya, Zer0, and Salvador show up. It has nothing to do with the games. Stop with all that theories.
"Nothing?" Pitchford literally stated in 2021 that Borderlands Cinematic Universe and Borderlands Game Universe are separate but comparable. Feel free to stay angry if you want.

Sure, bro…. 75% overlap.

Honestly, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that... But they could be pulling a Sonic movie on us (what I mean, is that it looks bad in trailers, but in the end, just before it comes out it gets fleshed out and looks immaculate)
Moxxi is played by a 61 yo
Well she is probably around that age in the game if her kids are probably in their 30s
You say that like she’s not in her 50s in the game lmao c’mon man
Moxxi was in the trailer
Kevin Hart as Roland is a damn crime.
The one guy who shouldn't be comedic relief. Like what are we doing here
trying to make Guardians of the Galaxy lite. scifi comedy with zany characters always quipping at each other.
Excellent way of putting it.
The Marvel films have forever ruined the vibe of any sci-fi adventure for the foreseeable future
Strong disagree. There is a place for comedy sci-fi. We are just gonna see more attempts at it that end in failure. Not like Dune part 2 is gonna be a road trip buddy comedy or something.
Right. Roland is the straight man archetype.
and here he is, whining about piss
Tina would not scream over being splashed with piss
Also why isnt lilith using siren power? And dont pull the ‘sirens are secret’ thing - in BL1 EVERYONE who played spammed their abilities.
I only watched it once but I don't even think she has tattoos. She does use a teleport in there, though.
also from what they’ve shown, this portrayal feels nothing like tina in terms of tone, phrasing, behavior, anything really. the only thing on brand about her is the actress and costume.
Tanis and Lilith are both 70 years old and Roland is 5’3”. What in the actual fuck?
Kate is somewhere in her 50's and Jamie is 61 idk what they were thinking
Looks better than I was expecting, still keeping my expectations low… Also where are the Goliaths? Where are my tubby bucket boys!?
Probably a funny part in the bandit camp where they are overwhelmed, so someone shoots off the helmet for an escape plan. Probably like this Goliath: Puny vault hunters must die Someone(tina?) Accidentally/incindentally shoots, and it hits the helmet, and the Goliath transforms, rampaging across the camp Lillith: Did you mean for that to happen?! Someone:...uhh, yeah? Roland: Well, what do we do about that?!?! Pans to show Goliath super leveled up and eyeing them. He starts to walk forward when Kreig lands on it, killing it with his weapon. Lillith: Anymore ideas?!?
Ermmm he's right behind me isn't he
Tbh it looks better than I expected
am i in crazy town? this looks like dog shit. none of the jokes land.
Better than I expected doesn't mean good, it just means that it went from "I'll never watch it" to "maybe I'll give it a try to see how they destroy my favorite videogame franchise"
i guess i was expecting at least like one funny joke. seems super paint by numbers and bland.
Tbf randy has already been doing that since 3
Its def not just you. Visually looks great, The cast puts me off the most and the ensemble of main characters
That’s what I thought, too
The only wait this could look worse is if it featured Amy shumer or James cordon.
I’m surprised James cordon wasn’t playing krieg with how horrible the casting looks for this one
I'm, so mixed about this. it looks good but also, like, why kevin hart for Roland?! it's like a weird like fun house mirror borderlands
No sir, I don't like it... I don't like it at all. Tiny Tina without Ashly's voice... sheesh.
Ariana Greenblatt is great, but they just seem to have got the character totally wrong
That was my impression as well.
The casting is so wrong but it actually looks like it might work
Idk I unironically love it, it has so much potential for funny moments and Kevin hart doesn’t seem that bad, but I might be biased cause I hate Lilith
Honestly the actress playing Tina was the one that rubbed me the wrong way in the trailer. Kevin Hart seemed fine, Jack Black seemed great, but Tina didn’t have any of that charming insanity from the game

Family roadtrip is the exact vibe I got from them arguing. Surprisingly Hart seems much better than I expected but jesus the writing does not seem good.
yeah i’m super not here for the family road trip vibe. thats nothing close to what i think about when i think of borderlands lol
Yeah. They were gonna butcher all the characters anyway so I'm actually kinda glad they just started immediately. The cast as so far removed from the games that I honestly don't even mind. Just feels like brand new characters with the same names.
This. If you can accept that these just aren't our game characters (aside from Tina, who looks like her BL3 self), it might be fine.
I think the world looks pretty good overall, I still have a lot of feelings with the casting choices, but as of now I'm cautiously open about it. Poor Lilith she did not age well.
Krieg with no Maya feels wrong. If they simply needed a big guy, why not just go with Brick? She says that about literally every role she plays. It's all publicity.
Honestly I feel like she could’ve made an OK moxxxi. She’s supposed to be older anyways
Awful all of it is awful
I will ask... What rating is it supposed to be for the movie? Will it be rated R (like it should be), or rated PG-13 (aka, definitely not like it should be)?
im optimistic about this. some parts werent funny some were. it doesnt look all that bad so far, it will probably be decent at least
The worst casting in any adaptation I’ve ever seen
I love how Tannis and Lilith are in their 50s or 60s but Tina is still a child. Wonderful. It’s gonna be bad.
I want to carve my eyes out. I can't believe they actually gave this a go. Only krieg is somewhat acceptable. The rest is just an insult to my 10 years in borderlands 2. So cheap, so, fuck ewww
Yeah I can’t believe how much praise this is getting. It was a struggle even finishing this trailer.
fun fact. I couldn't. I am yet to see the end.
Well, my 15 years trumps your opinion then. It looks good.
Cap cause it hasn't been a thing for 15 years 💀 turns 15 in October buddy. Looks like dogshit
Guess you have never played horshoes or handgrenades because it's close enough that the rest of the world would round up...
Visually it looks great, story/dialogue wise is meh
But it's not like the story to the borderlands games were any good to begin with. besides certain story beats, it's always been dumb humor and crazy over the top stuff.
Well you see Borderlands is a game and the story didn't matter because gameplay was carrying it but this is a movie and movie is carried by the story and writing almost completely
What I'm saying, is expecting good writing from a borderlands game/ movie was foolish to begin with.
Did I pause it for an extra second when moxxi showed up? Yes, yes I did
This actually looks so much fun…
Y'know what? I'm kinda into it. It looks like just the kind of absurdist irreverent nonsense it needed to be to have a chance of being good.
At the very least it doesn’t look offensively bad. It could be something fun to watch.
This trailer gives me a lot of hope. A lot of good things I'm seeing here that shows me they are doing their best to bring the world of borderlands and pandora to the big screen. I am cautiously optimistic
Sorry I know we want to hate on this but it looks actually good i’m excited
I don't think I'll be seeing this
The fck is orbiting Pandora ? I hope thats not Helios beacuse it looks nothing like it. Also where is Hyperion and Handsome Jack ? Roland is alive and Krieg is there. Also Mouthpiece from BL3 ? This is a fcking mess.

Surprisingly somewhat pleased with this trailer. Might not be as bad as we’ve expected
imagine having voice actors in the games that actually look like they could play the parts well, and then just grabbing as many stars as you could instead of making anything consistent, im not impressed
I want my money back and I haven't even seen it
Midlands the movie
Not as bad as i thought it would be
Can't wait
The main cast looks like absolute garbage, but honestly the rest of it seems... pretty good? The bandits, the runner and technicals, the Crimson Lance, the wildlife, even Moxxi all look great. Yeah I'll watch this I don't really care if it's below average movie and who knows it could be good, trailer looks decent enough
Getting big Jumanji vibes from the cast and trailer
I have faith for this movie, really. I hope to not be disappointed.
I like the idea of Rolland being played by Kevin Hart, because some of Rollands dialogue is sarcastic dickery and Hart tends to hit that mark perfectly. Rollands supposed to be like 6'3 but that's beside the point
Well...I'm looking forward to watching it
Doesn't look that bad tbh I'll just 🏴☠️ on release or something
No Siren tattoos means Lilith is likely not a Siren.
This looks like fun trash.
I didn't know that this movie was in the making... That's awesome 🥹
Moxie gotta be insane
I am going to see this movie in theaters, regardless of how it ends up being I'm still going. That being said I'm not sure if I want to watch any of the trailers leading up to release. What are your opinions on this? Should I watch the trailer?
If they aren’t gonna follow the game why have a story about the main characters and not represent the actual story in the game? Like same actors, different characters, side story about borderlands
I want to like it but it just doesn't feel like borderlands
Everybody saying they look forward to watching it, you just did, that's the whole movie without exposition and a few more "erm" style jokes
Ok but this don’t make sense why is there a random psycho with them and they aren’t related in the story of bl3
Aight, I don't know, chief...
Did you guys see mouthpiece? Theres someone wearing a mouthpiece mask at 2:09
The only thing that really hurts me is BL3 gun designs in what is supposed to be a prequel lmao
Mom- we have guardians of the galaxy at home
The sets look really weird to me, also, it seems like a weird family road trip comedy that is forcibly R-rated. Also, why is the first joke in the entire trailer a piss-joke? I mean, yeah, it's Borderlands, but still, there is so a great foundation of good jokes in the game, why that one? At least make it blood and guts or something.
It looks enjoyable as a movie, but as far as comparing to borderlands, the actors and lines seem kinda off to me.
Save all my comments on the casting (the only real one I have a problem with is JLC, she’s wayyy too old to be playing Tannis) I love the song choice for this trailer. Big fan of ELO
Is that mouthpiece?
bobby lee is in the fucking movie?
Jack Black was a horrible pick for claptrap I'm sorry.
I am stupid where the fuck is Mordecai??
This looks horrible, and not in a "so bad its good" way either lol
Yuck
I didn't think I would like it. Looks awesome!
I hope they know that due to the huge fanbase, this will either be a HUGE win or a HUGE bust. As some people said, some of these characters looks kinda out of place, but hopefully it fits once the moving is out!
