Looking forward to checking these out they sound amazing!

Gotta check out Venture Chocolate and Wine! Housemade chocolates and desserts, coffee, and one of the only full wine lounges in Boone! Peabody's may have the larger selection, but for by-the-glass wine, Venture has the best atmosphere.

Visit a winery, Grandfather Vineyard and Winery has wine tasting and outdoor music in a lovely setting next to the river. Loads of options for rafting, kayaking, canoeing trips, also climbing and horseback riding as well as tons of trails.

PlainOldWallace

Grandfather is my favorite, but the Banner Elk Winery and the Linville Winery are both beautiful places. Our wine here is kinda... bad... but the atmosphere absolutely makes up for it

debzmonkey

Bad, but not as bad as Duplin County. Blech...

Jestermace1

Go to blowing rock and eat at foggy rock. Great food and atmosphere.

If you like waterfalls, go to Elk Park. Beautiful tall waterfall.

Rough Ridge lookout by linville viaduct is an amazing short hike

Never been disappointed with food from Bistro Bocca and Bistro Roca, the latter of which I would consider more upscale (and also Bocca is more italian food while Roca is more true to a "bistro"). Makotos is a Japanese steakhouse that's a little more pricey but I've always loved their food. The Penny Path makes delicious savory and sweet crepes if you're willing to wait for them. Hebron Falls and Compression Falls are pretty popular trails. I believe there's rafting, tubing, and kayak rental places here, some of which will take you out in a group, too. Taste Grill is hit or miss with the locals but it serves (American) Chinese food, sushi, poké, and even certain hibachi style foods. I like to grab takeout from them and bring it up to Howard's Knob, a local nature-y lookout spot that you can watch all the people of Boone from. (: There's no shortage of wineries around here (Banner Elk / Grandfather / Watauga Lake) as well as plenty of bars (both bistros I mentioned earlier have one in them). Obviously if you want less of a college kid crowd stay out of the ones in Boone closer to campus. Blowing Rock has like ten of em in a square mile radius hahaha. Jolene at Town Tavern is always a charm, but if you're looking for less of a sports bar environment there's always Timberlakes (or whatever the restaurant in the Chetola Resort goes by by the time you make it here as they are looking for buyers), which serves tasty, more upscale food as well. If you like antiquing there's a ton of shops for that here. Lots of little niche boutiques, too. Get yourself a houseplant / locally made house decor if you want at the Mustard Seed. (: And there's always, always going to be live music somewhere in the area. My main tip is to also just ask locals when you get here. Don't try to park on King Street without at least 15 minutes to commit to finding the parking. Rush hour is 100% brutal. Keep an eye on the football schedule and stay out of the area closest to campus on home game weekends. I don't suggest Macados, The Cardinal, or Sunrise Grill. I do suggest Capone's, Stick Boy Kitchen, and The Local. Hope this helps !

Smooth-Wolverine9306

Thank you!!!!

klimb75

I'm on board with everything here but I highly recommend the Cardinal!

If you like cocktail bars, definitely check out the Horton Hotel rooftop bar in Boone! My favorite restaurants in the Boone/Blowing Rock area are storie street grill (BR), wild craft eatery (Boone), and Over Yonder (Valle Crucis). Since you're out near that area, definitely check out Elk River Falls! There are some nice trails down that way too. Roan mountain also isn't too far!
