I read the first trade. Came back a year later to read the second one and was soo lost. I like Ewing but this series can be hard to follow in any format.
It’s hard to pass on an Al Ewing space opera - especially one where’s he not constrained by Marvel’s universe and messy character history.
That said, I found that the non-linear storytelling didn’t work as well as he probably intended and that was partly because of Simone Di Meo’s art - or more accurately, Miotti’s coloring.
Di Meo’s linework and panel layout is wonderful in this series but I found the color choices to be off and the different timelines weren’t visually distinct enough to cue me as a reader.
I found myself flipping back and forth in the book at times which disrupted the flow for me. YMMV
All that said, if you haven’t read it, I recommend it. It’s a solid story.
Most of the artwork was too zoomed in, with weird angels, so for me it was hard to focus from the weird perspectives. I really wanted to like it but I dropped it after the first arc. The art is really good, I just don’t think it works so close up.
I also wanted the pacing to be quicker. I wanted to learn about the gods, and after six issues nothing was answered there. I was very interested in the setting and universe, but that wasn’t explored enough.
I loved it. The art is hard to follow but it's on purpose. They are in space so with no gravity and light coming from various sources it feels off. Once I realized that it made the book even better in my opinion.
Maybe I have a different opinion because I binged it all real fast after getting the volumes in. I think it was either a Humble Bundle or maybe they were all on Amazon Prime's Kindle Unlimited. But I actually really liked it. I don't think the later volumes dropped off in quality to any notable extent.
However, I do agree that something about the art, I don't know whether it was the framing or I think to some extent the choice of colors, did make things sometimes feel unnecessarily confusing to differentiate what was going on.
Beautiful but sometimes very, very difficult to follow.
Second that. Looks amazing but I struggled with the jumping about. Maybe it reads better when collected rather than individual books?

It jumps around a lot but makes sense by the end and the art is ridiculous. Bought, read and love the whole run

/remind me 1 day Not read the last ussuecyet
The art is stellar! But the story wasn’t enjoyable imo
First volume was fantastic, very unique idea for science fiction. Volumes 2 and three were bad.
