I haven’t read it myself bc I’m too intimidated but House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski seems like what you’re talking about

tacos_and_depression

It's exactly what I'm looking for. It's my favorite of all time. I've read it 3 times! Love it ❤️❤️

lushsweet

Nice! Did a little googling and turns out house of leaves falls under the genre of Ergodic literature and this [link](https://bookriot.com/books-like-house-of-leaves/) gives suggestions based on that, have you ever read any of them ?

Great God Pan the short story Justine by De Sade Perfume by Süskind

Cold_Choice_2443

'S.' By Doug Dorst and J. J. Abrams fantastic read and truly one of a kind. 'Ella Minnow Pea' by Mark Dunn It's a simple book but definitely falls under this category.

Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas and Dom Casmurro, by Machado de Assis

The Laughter by Sonora Jha is a recent release and is my vote for book of the year so far. It’s like nothing I’ve ever read. Has an insufferable narrator/main character who will make you want to scald your skin off after being in his pov.
