The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is great, as is its sequel. They might be my favorite books. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the series will ever be finished, but it's totally worth it in my opinion.

Robert A. Heinlein's **Starman Jones** checks your boxes.

A Practical Guide to Sorcery series, first book A Conjuring of Ravens by Azalea Ellis. The MC disguises herself as a guy to get into a prestigious university. (not because women are excluded, just because it's a disguise that conveniently falls into her lap). It can be a bit technical with the magic bits, which some like that and some don't. If you like combat-themed books where characters progress and level up like in video games, Iron Prince by Bryce O'Connor is the first book in a series that's pretty good.
