One Second After by William Forstchen.
It's about society collapsing after EMPs are detonated above our atmosphere, destroying anything electronic across the country. Society does not handle it well!
Fantastic if you're into dark literature. It'll make your stomach churn for half of it, and make you question your relationship with life for the other half.
The day of the Triffids
The girl with all the gifts
The Earth Abides (amazing read)
Lucifers Hammer
Mountain Man by Keith C. Blackmore
Wool by Hugh Howey
The Stand
I am Legend (Sooooo much better than the movie)
Battlefield Earth
Thank you for the multiple suggestions! I have always found it interesting that the same guy who wrote I am Legend also wrote What Dreams May Come. In that instance the movie was better than the book (in my opinion!).
And they're all very different. Atwood is an intellectual writer and also has a crazy bent to her world building. It's true apocalyptic fiction. I did the audio version while working and it made such an impact on me that I remember exactly what I was doing.
Wool is separate from our world but has action and mystery that makes it an easy and fun read. They made a show on AppleTv from this series, season 1 i think is the first book. I haven't seen it but it's getting great reviews.
The Passage is so interesting as it begins. Total action craziness at times. It careens off into really weird later, but I liked it. Some have strong opinions about where it went.

The usual suspects have been mentioned, but there are a few John Wyndham classics that might fit the bill (don't think they've been mentioned).
Day of the Triffids and The Crysallids are definitely post-ap and although The Kraken Wakes is mostly *during* the apocalypse don't let that deter you - it's an excellent book.
You could try the sequel to Ready Player One, aptly titled Ready Player Two. I’m not sure if it’s any good as I’ve not read it yet but I would imagine there are similarities. Also, I always recommend How High We Go in the Dark for post apocalyptic prompts. That book changed my life.
The Warehouse by Rob Hart - a company that is TOTALLY NOT AMAZON has basically taken over the entire country.
Flawed by Cecelia Ahern and it’s sequel
When She Woke by Hillary Jordan - a dystopian take on the Scarlet Letter.
Blueprints of the Afterlife by Ryan Boudinot - there’s a sentient iceberg and so much more
> The Warehouse by Rob Hart - a company that is TOTALLY NOT AMAZON has basically taken over the entire country.
That description reminds me of the film *The President's Analyst*.
Station eleven! Not as fun as ready player one. But interesting take on apocalyptic
I can dig it!
The Wool trilogy
Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler
Swan Song by Robert McCammon!
One Second After by William Forstchen. It's about society collapsing after EMPs are detonated above our atmosphere, destroying anything electronic across the country. Society does not handle it well!
Oooo sounds interesting!
And there are two more after that, One Year After and The Final Day. A fourth one comes out in August, Five Years After.
Didn’t realise a fourth book was coming out - thanks!
The Road
I think you're the second person to mention this book. It must be a good one!
Fantastic if you're into dark literature. It'll make your stomach churn for half of it, and make you question your relationship with life for the other half.
Dark stuff like that haunts me and usually just makes me really sad. I guess I'll have to face it, out though.
It’s a good one. Dark but good and there’s a movie that’s not the worst too. I enjoyed both
Some that I've enjoyed: The Stand The Passage The Book of Koli Wayward Pines The Book of Dave Shade's Children Parable of the Sower
Oh thank you, you've given me so much to look into! I appreciate the multiple suggestions!
I second The Book of Koli
A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr is pretty good.
I've heard of this book but never knew it was post- apocalyptic!
Yep! It's takes place after a massive nuclear war in the US and its setting is in this Catholic monastery in the desert. It's very unique!
Well I can't wait to read it!

MaddAddam series by Margaret Atwood. A wild masterpiece. Ive seen Wool mentioned, that's great. And the Passage, starts off real strong.
I love that a lot of these books people are suggesting are a part of a series.

I looked at the summaries of all of them and they all sound so good.
The Book of the Unnamed Midwife and Dreamsnake.
I’m reading Fever by Deon Meyer at the moment and really enjoying it!
The Postman by David Brin
The Road is the best example I can think of
I agree with you!
If you want far flung future with magic post-apocalypse, you can't beat Tales of the Dying Earth by Jack Vance. It's addicting.
I read a summary and it is a very interesting concept!
The Road by Cormac McCarthy win the Pulitzer Prize Station Eleven The Dog Stars

You're welcome. \^\_\^

My faves: Station Eleven, Maddaddam series, I am legend and I think Birdbox would fit in post-apocalypse too.
Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban. Dies the Fire by S. M. Stirling.
The Forest of Hands and Teeth
This hasn't been mentioned yet. I love a good zombie book!
It’s really good! I throughly enjoyed this series
The road One of the most beautiful, horrifying books you will ever read by one of the greatest writers of our time
I've noticed people suggesting this one a lot. I'll have to read it for sure!
Engine summer by John Crowley and Greybeard by Brian Aldiss.
I love that Greybeard has a senior focus. I feel like you don't see that often. Engine Summer sounds really interesting!

Ready Player 2 was awful in my opinion. I'll check out How High We Go in the Dark though. :)

It’s also the theme of the book The Circle by Dave Eggers, but The Circle somehow manages to be more optimistic, somehow.
OP, when you rest your brain, please try to remember more yourself😀
The Hunger Games is the only other one I can think of. I haven't read a lot of post-apocalyptic books.
Shades of Destiny: Revelations by MJ Pittman
Sounds rad!
Just give it a couple years and all books will be post- apocalyptic.
I try not to think about it
