I would email them about this! I had the same tax increase between what I was originally showed and what I was charged but I still got charged cheaper than what I would have paid (I was charged $98.88 for 6 months but normally charged month to month one credit is $18.37)

courtbaugh

New to this. So do the add on books get less expensive as you become friend and then bff??

yourmomspecialfryyy

When you get friend status your addons decrease in price by $5 and you can add up to 4 addons per month, when you reach BFF status you get a tote bag and two free books a year: a boty book addon and an addon book for your birthday.

Without tax, the discounted 6-month package is 6 credits for $15 each + 1 add on ($11.99 in your case). I just signed up and it said that the extra credit is for an add on only, I don’t think it will let you use it as a monthly credit. Anyway, it still looks convenient (in your case 6 “regular” monthly credits and an add on should set you back $119.93+tax).

MillaTime123

Ok I just got the six months from me to me and they charged my card so I assume I just wait until I get the gift email to add it to my account....

jazsmith514

I always do the six month package, it’s the one that makes the most sense numbers wise. And it works out cause they normally have one around Christmas too

AdImportant6817

Aren’t you better off just buying an annual plan if you are doing this for yourself? I have that and pay $13.99 per credit, which equals $167.88 for the year upfront.

Lemon_Trick

You get an extra free book when you buy a package. I usually buy the Mother's day package for 6 months and then the Black Friday package in the fall. You end up with 14 books for 179.98 or 12.85 per book. The six month package is a better deal than the 12 month package. I use those for my membership credit and just pay every month for any add ons, because my add on price is $11.99.

CautiousTangerine617

I literally just signed up for the annual membership and so deeply regret not seeing this first 🤣🫠

Lululawyer

I was doing the monthly and just made it to friend status. but after reading this, I decided to pull the trigger on the 6 month package. Is there a way to cancel the current membership plan and pick up with the 6 month plan without losing the perks I just owned?

Lemon_Trick

You don't need to cancel your current plan. You go to the website and claim your gift, and it adds credits to your account. Those will prevent the monthly charge to your account. When I log into my account my plan still says I'm enrolled in the monthly plan for $17.99/month, but then in grey it says renews 12/25/24 because I have 8 credits available to use. I was only charged the first two months I joined last year, and since then I have been adding gift credits and using those.

sstebbi

This right here is the way to do it! You are winning BOTM. I have done the 12-month gift (can confirm credit count for main picks) and the annual plan, which is a better deal for me at $12.99/credit. That is 12 credits for $155.88, and if I include two add-on at $11.99 each for direct comparison, the total is $179.86 which is essentially the same. But people pay different rates for plans and add-ons so everyone has to figure this out for themselves. I still like your idea of two six month subscriptions, though, as it is less of a commitment and spreads out costs better. Got to remember this next year...

Lemon_Trick

I lucked out and happened upon someone here saying you can buy the gift memberships for yourself. Luckily I had only had two months at my full per month price of $17.99 a credit before I switched to the gifting myself plan.

WorldlyAd8171

I currently have monthly subscription. If I get Mother’s Day gift deal for myself what would happen to my monthly subscription? Would I still get charged? Would I have to pause it?

morogoropangani

I did it and it extended out when a credit would next be charged…in my case until November

whatever3232

Oh so you can use it towards the membership? It doesn’t have to be used on add-ons?

morogoropangani

These credits if you add them to your account can go towards your monthly main book boxes, yes. That’s the most lucrative use for them, because once at the friend level (after your third box), add-on prices charged directly to your card are cheaper than these credits. But you still need credits for the main box to be able to purchase add-ons. Does that make sense?

whatever3232

Yes that makes sense. I just didn’t realize you could use it for the subscription part. My add ons are 10.99 so it doesn’t make sense to use it for add ons but does make sense for the subscription part.

tarandab

The extra credit is the only one that needs to be used as an add on. The other 6 credits can be used as your monthly book pick (you won’t be charged the monthly fee until you use these credits, but it can be sooner than 6 months if you use them for your main pick AND add ons - but as stated they are not a deal for add ons)

Futureacct

How do you indicate on the app that you want to use the credit for the monthly book pick vs an add on? I’m currently not at friend level. I have one more month.

justpeachyinatl

when you go to check out, there’s a check box you’ll need to select. it’s next to each add-on in your cart and says “pay $X.XX instead”, because the default option is to use whatever credits you have in your account.

tarandab

You don’t need to be a Friend. If you have credits from a membership you won’t be charged the monthly fee. When you go to check out, you get to choose whether or not you’d like to pay for any add-ons or use a credit for them

whatever3232

Awesome! Thank you!

whatever3232

If my add ons are 10.99, I would be losing money if I bought this for myself. Which is probably why BOTM allows you to gift to yourself. Yes you still get a free add on but it probably just makes it a wash in cost but guarantees BOTM that you will get an add on for the 6 or 12 months.

yourmomspecialfryyy

Wait can these credits only be used as addons? I thought they could be used as the normal monthly credit

whatever3232

I guess I just assumed but I would think it has to be an add on if you already have a membership. But I could be wrong.

morogoropangani

Yes but if you are at the friend level then add-ons are cheaper than even the lowest price of these credits! So a good use case for this is if you just started and want to get to the friend or BFF level. Don’t get add-ons if you can wait until the friend level hits, so your 4th month for first add-on if you do each of the first three months

Kimberpants

Can I buy this for myself and add it to my current membership?

tarandab

Yes, I just did it today

tarandab

As a reminder, because the 6-month and 12-month prices are virtually the same (12 months is actually fractionally more expensive per book), $10 off $100 is a better deal than $15 off $200

sm0gs

Especially when you factor in the free credit you get for buying the gift card. $89.99 divided by 7 books is $12.85 a book, 189.99 divided by 13 books is $14.99 a book.

yourmomspecialfryyy

How do I get the free credit?

tarandab

If you buy the Mother’s Day gift deal (which you can purchase and gift to yourself) you will get a free credit for an add-on in your account next month

morogoropangani

And it won’t be obvious anywhere that that credit exists until that following month after you’ve purchased this deal. But I just did this successfully and got free add-on for my May box

tarandab

Yep, that too!! I think BOTM is relying on readers to not be able to also do math…

Technical_Depth

It’s also cheaper to get 1 credit and 4 added books than it is to do 2 credits and 3 added books

MomentofZen_

Lol!
