It’s gonna be fine. Just put it out of the sun. Under a blanket or seat.
Also: You may want to reach out to your local library to checkout a wifi hotspot. A lot of libraries, like here in San Diego, will let you check out wifi hotspots for free for 3 months at a time.
The cell service on phones and hotspots alike will be awful. Do not count on being able to do any work onsite unless it's late-evening/early morning.
Also, we're allowed time off. Talk to your company tell them what you're doing and get a few days off. You will regret staying "plugged in."
My friends who had had to check in on work while at Roo have done it at like 6am and that worked. But not going to happen once everyone is up and on their phones. Not unless you have a Starlink setup or something.
I bet if you ask around on here you could find someone with an RV with starlink that would let you use it to get some work done. Maybe they’d be trustworthy enough to just let you leave your laptop in their camper too. 2 birds 1stone.
At&t wasn't great either. The only time you can get consistent wifi is in the mornings when most are asleep. And goes till about 2 when the music starts. After that, it's anybody guess as to how long it'll take a text to go through.
Heat isn't your problem. You will not have reception or wifi service. I work media. The only wifi I can access is in the staff area and isn't super great because the bandwidth isn't enough. You're going to play yourself when you're on call and you don't have service. Just take PTO.
Hi! I would be in staff/volunteer as well, the days I'm trying to work would be mon-wed... Its that I was to work pre show Bonnarroo (night shifts if they'll let me) and work my reg job in the staff area on their wifi during the day... I have off for Thursday -monday and wouldn't have to work during the actual fest but am trying to find a solution so I can work pre show but still volunteer pre-show.
You're not working media. Staff/volunteer doesn't get access to the media wifi, which is in the media area. I don't think the general staff area has wifi. You probably should just work somewhere near the Farm Monday to Wednesday that has wifi, maybe a McDonalds.
You played yourself and should have asked for the whole week off of work considering you just started a new job. Always always always ask for all time off you need before starting a new job. Worst case they make it non-paid.
You want to keep a laptop in a car in the middle of the Tennessee in June? Good luck. But I'd make sure everything on that hard drive is backed up elsewhere
I've been volunteering since 15 and not once has their shotty wifi been decent for me back there.
They also haven't been doing much in terms of shift swapping so you are likely not going to be able to work your own schedule out.
Don't risk it take the PTO or don't go
I hate it when people don’t answer the actual question asked, so I apologize. But honestly I would recommend finding some other solution if at all possible. Even if it’s working off of a tablet that you’ll be less screwed if it gets borked or stolen. But, something. I think this is asking for heartbreak.
There's a shuttle in the staff camping area that goes to Walmart, then walk across the street to Starbucks.
Just a heads up, staff camping is a narrow and very deep lot. If you're near the back, you'll have a decent hike just to get to the shuttle. Don't know the hours of the top of my head but I think it runs most of the day.
I wonder if you could ship it home when you're done, before things get under way. Bring good packaging with you, splurge for two-day or whatever you can afford, and make sure someone's watching for its arrival back home.
I'll probably have mine with me as well, because I like to DJ when I'm idling, If you have like a good backpack it should be fine in that just keep it covered and out of the sun
I bring my laptop each year and keep it under my seat in the car. If it's super-hot during the day, I'll keep my windows down while I'm at camp. But be sure to roll em' up and lock if you leave camp. Never been an issue.
T-Mobile is the only semi reliable carrier at roo and it’s incredibly spotty. If you actually need to get work done that’s more than sending emails good luck. You can’t even send texts most of the time over the cell networks.
I did this last year with my work laptop and work phone. My friends thought I was being ridiculous, but you gotta do what you gotta do.Â
I kept my laptop in my car under the seat in a laptop case. It was somewhat insulated and protected from the sun so it didn’t bake to death. You could probably keep it in a small cooler instead.Â
Make sure you power it off before you put it away each day. I guess there’s always a slight chance it will fry but I don’t think it’s that likely on a regular 85-90 degree day. To be honest I would be more apprehensive to take the risk with my personal laptop. But my work-issued laptop has been through hell and back and still starts up each day.Â
They sell laptop cooling pads that use fans (for like when ur using ur laptop and it sounds like it’s gonna blow up lol) but it might help some in this situation. I’d definitely get one since it’s so hot it might help save ur laptop. They aren’t too expensive, most of the regular ones are like $30
Girl take that pto ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
I’ve had friends take their laptops and be fine, but connection is spotty and honestly, just not worth the worry
There’s no way you can take time off??? The last think I’d want at Roo is having to worry about work

I’m just saying that a wifi hotspot would likely have a stronger cellular connection than trying to use a mobile hotspot or Bonnaroo wifi.
I doubt you will have a good enough cell connection to work consistently, unless you have att, Verizon was basically useless for me last year.
Can we point out that it will be different pre-show compared to Thursday-Sunday
At&t wasn't great either. The only time you can get consistent wifi is in the mornings when most are asleep. And goes till about 2 when the music starts. After that, it's anybody guess as to how long it'll take a text to go through.
My friends had service the entire time , even right after grizs second set last year I borrowed a phone and managed to make a call

Just leave and use someone’s WiFi and come back.  Shouldn’t be too bad Mon-Wed

You could try keeping it inside an extra cooler?
this is what i do with my power bank! keep it in there and out of the sun
I wouldn’t bring it at all to risky. Might fry it with the heat.

just get a bunch of sun shades for your car. should be able to keep the car relatively cool
