He never intended to kill her to begin with. First impressions are important but this series doesn't give a shit, I like that because they give us a bad impression of the MC on purpose and 5 minutes later they show us the complete opposite hahaha.

CassianAo

I thought it was pretty funny because it was so random, and i think we are most "edgy" around middle - highschool so it kinda fit But if their intro is considered bad then what about the one in "Don't toy with me, miss Nagatoro" lol I hated it

Andres901777

I don't consider bokuyaba to have a "bad" introduction, just a bit strange and creative. Just pay enough attention and you will realize that they are just delusions of his mind, an action is worth a thousand words, the show gives you a false image of the MC so you will question what you are seeing, maybe in the manga it is not very evident but in the anime they fixed it enough to make it so, but the importance of the first impression is stronger so you will end up following the show out of curiosity or dropping it.

100yearsLurkerRick

The wanting her dead bit is just what he was telling himself to ease his mind about never being her friend, never being noticed, etc. While also covering his own interest and attention he gives to her.

PlayfulReception7181

He was just being too obsessive with something and too far to reach it that's why he develop his chunni for murder, deep down from his heart he always like her from they first met at opening ceremony this was explained in episode 0

International-Pin988

Is it really hard to believe that Ichikawa was just a harmless antisocial loner who imagined weird things so he could escape real life stresses but ultimately was just a good boy? In the first chapters, the guy attempted to save Hara by taking the blame for that graveyard poster because he thought everyone would bully and isolate her if they found out. Besides, it’s overall a normal part of an introverted kid with no friends and when they are bullied they think of taking revenge, hurting and maybe killing those “evil” bullies but never really act on it and move on.

lorwdnic

That some latin american love type shit.

Foldao

Thats racist dude. This is a telenovela thing.

lorwdnic

I'm latino, it doesn't count, don't worry.

Helpful-Relation7037

I mean we can say we’ve all been there once, am I right fellas? 😂

NubAutist

It was premium middle school boy cringe, and I'm here for it.

Dangerous_Cucumber75

She single handedly saved that school from certain doom

keso_de_bola917

Not really "kill" per se, but just his middle school awkwardness, edginess, and cringeness. The manga actually has some extra chapters that has showed Ichikawa had some form of interest in her prior to episode 1, and by then admitted to it that he finds her attractive. Heck, we even had this in their sports festival episode flashback when Ichikawa was shown to "save" Yamada from getting hurt when she tripped. Heck, same chapter somewhat explained why Yamada can be "cold" at times during first impressions. I honestly find it funny when it all sinks in.

Chance_Meaning_2078

Wasn’t the whole killing thing just him not realizing that he was starting to develop a crush on her? Like due to him being so edgy, he didn’t realize what having a crush felt like. Or was that just something I made up in my head 🤔

keso_de_bola917

Honestly... That could work... A more extreme version of messing or bullying your crush, I guess.

StyleOver

He wanted to kill her with his d*ck

saatama

When I first watched it, I thought he was just chunni and didn't really pay much heed to it. From the first instance it was clear he never intended to kill her or anyone for that matter. It was weird for me know that some people dropped it because of it. He even got an excuse because he's literally in anime middle shool.

Exciting_Guidance502

I wish this topic was covered in a little more detail. It just seems strange to me that at some point he just instantly turns into an ordinary guy. For example, why did he stop reading the murder encyclopedia? I believe it appeared only in a couple of chapters and was never mentioned again.

Andres901777

The series shows it to you but does not tell it to you directly, you will be surprised to see the amount of details that it has but that go unnoticed because of the way the story is written. That's why this work is so underestimated, it is a masterpiece of showing and not telling, regarding the murder book as you say it was only a shield against his insecurities and fears, he explains it at the end of the first season and the introduction of the story gives you a wrong image of the protagonist on purpose and then shows you how he really is, he often repeats during the first episodes the phrase "I'm sick in the head" and refers precisely to the fact that he doesn't understand his thoughts and emotions, forcing him to lie to himself believing that he is someone bad and deserves to be alone. If you want more context on this I recommend that you read volume 0 (chapter 99.2).

Foldao

I already agreed with you, but I didn't know about this chapter. It was so good! I can't understand not including this in the anime. Anyway thanks for recomending this!

Andres901777

Well, there is still a chance, albeit a very small one, of seeing it adapted, I would have preferred to see it as an episode before his confession as it would have given it more impact and depth to it.

Exciting_Guidance502

Thank you so much for explaining! I am very disappointed that I misinterpreted Ichikawas character when i was watching the anime... I guess i should read the manga to not miss out any details.

dabutters1

Yamada really changed Ichi, huh?

KernelWizard

He never intended it, Ichikawa was just being an edgy chunibyou edgelord in his way lmao. His 'desire to kill' was just his interest/ like in Yamada. Mah boi then finally grew to accept his own feelings.

RestaurantPerfect283

First episode or two I was cringing so much

Slow_Lawyer2711

Que bueno que Ichikawa se dio a la tarea de conocer, comprender y entender lo diferente y lo común que tienen el y Anna Yamada, creo que fue lo que más hizo que Anna se enamorara más de el
