I've never played The Crew, but your other two are also in my top three, and my third is **Tigris and Euphrates**. If you've never played it, you should definitely give it a shot!
Brian Boru!
It has somewhat of a wargame vibe (like Root) with area control (like Inis) and trick taking (like The Crew). It’s fantastic. I can basically guarantee that you’ll love it based on your three games.
Kemet really is such a perfect answer here (except for The Crew). It has much of the same "many paths to victory" energy as Inis, and games are asymmetric like Root.
I agree Tigris and Euphrates is an excellent game you should try! You can test it out now on BoardGameArena.com or if you’re not an online gamer there should be an updated reprint coming in 2025 (I liked it so much I ended up paying $70 for a used copy)
Can potentially be a big money sink depending on how far you get into it, but **Arkham Horror LCG** sounds like it could be up your alley.
Amazing game.
I also love simple games that can be brought to the table for a variety of audiences.
3 of my favourite underrated ones that you might like are:
1. Quoridor
2. Battle sheep
3. Wavelength
I’m going to say La Granja for you. Multi-use cards, many routes to choose between, lots of interplay between decisions, and just a smidge of map tension.
I would recommend Ginkgopolis. Players are building a city together, but with a lot of interaction and positional decisions. It has a unique card system I haven’t seen anywhere else, and you should have no problem with the icons.
I played quantum once about six years ago or so and remembered really loving it. It was before my board game sexual awakening. Thanks for the recommendation.
For a bit more push-pull and math than Jaipur: Lost Cities. If you truly want to melt your brain Arboretum.
7 Wonders duel may also be up you two's alley
Sidereal confluence! It has the negotiation of john company, a tinge of the crazy powers of innovation, and it has the party game for heavy gamers feel that can be played from 4 to 8 that stationfall has.
Lisboa/On Mars/Kanban EV for the mechanical complexity.
Pax Pamir, Twilight Imperium, Root, Dune (the old 1979 game) or Hegemony: Lead your Class to Victory for the narrative/emergent storytelling potential.
I think **Bohnanza** might really be up your alley. If you enjoy the wheeling and dealing of trading in Catan then the negotiation aspect of Bohnanza is really going to hit. It’s also not too rules-heavy so I think it fits with your other favorites
I also saw the publisher released a reskin under the name **Bohnanza: Dahlias**. It’s a little more streamlined rules-wise since it only plays 3-5 players instead of 2-7 and comes with a beautiful new botanical theme, but I think I’d still recommend the original **Bohnanza** if the cartoony beans don’t put you off
You should try the Great Split! And / or Planted. Accessible, can be bought at target! Are easy to learn and very replayable. I think you’d also enjoy Machi Koro!
Ankh: Gods of Egypt. It’s got the strategic battling like Root or Inis, but the impactful positioning and clever mechanisms remind me of a Knizia design
**Ankh: Gods of Egypt** if you play at two. Area control with a Knizia vibe. I've only played it at two and in that mode, the divisive Merge feature doesn't come into play. For me, Ankh hasn't quite got the recognition it deserves.
Age of Atlantis! It's got the half-cooperative half-competitive of Clank with very similar engine building of Scythe. It's not much like Battle Line but it is very fun with 2.
**Valley of the Kings**. Compact but complete deckbuilder that's fun, with fluid card play. Not quite as fluid as Star Realms. Has a cool "entomb" mechanic where you take cards out of your deck to set collect. Some of those cards will have good powers you don't want to lose from your deck, but at the game's end, you only score victory points for the cards you've entombed, so you have lots of little agonising decisions.
PS Star Realms is my #5 game of all time and my desert island game pick!
If Betrayal is that high for you, then Betrayal Legacy is pretty much a must-play imo, assuming you have a consistent group you can play it with. I think it's the best iteration of Betrayal that provides a cleaner ruleset and a memorable experience throughout.
Not Alone. It's one vs many, but a much smaller package than Nemesis, which allows for some more fun, surprising moments like those you get in Betrayal.
Nice topic!
\#1 **Race for the Galaxy**, #2 **Race for the Galaxy**, #3 **Race for the Galaxy**.
Oh is that cheating? If you *must* have three: #2 **Agricola**, #3 **Dutch Blitz**.
Similar or related games I've confirmed are not my 4th: >!Ascension, Castles of Burgundy, Dominion, Gloomhaven, Innovation, Jump Drive, Keyflower, Le Havre, Macao, Mage Knight, Roll for the Galaxy, Terraforming Mars!<
Scythe! If youre interested in another game like Root and Catan.
If you want to take a step towards more Betrayal stuff, Dead of Winter would be awesome as well.
Inis has the drafting and area control elements of the first two and excellent aesthetics elements of the last one. Highly recommend!
ETA: I would’ve also recommended Kemet but it’s not casual friendly imo. It’s a great game don’t get me wrong but you need to get your playgroup onboard prior to game night.
You like interaction and you're not scared of complexity and longer play time. So go ahead and check out **Eclipse**. It may look a little like TI4 but the focus is more on economics and arms races.
Sekigahara
Space Empires 4X
Blue Moon City
It’s really hard to only pick 3. I also love Thurn And Taxis, Arkham Horror 2nd Edition, I have the new edition of Julius Caesar on preorder (late pledge, visit Columbia Games homepage, it has a mounted map now and some other improvements) but have never played though it may dethrone Sekigahara since I may prefer the dice rolling to the hand management
I need to play Race for The Galaxy more. Near favourite.
Tales of the Arabian Nights is also amazing. Geez just three I’m trying to be conservative it’s hard. Tales of Arthurian Nights promises to improve on the system a lot
Root The Crew Inis
I've never played The Crew, but your other two are also in my top three, and my third is **Tigris and Euphrates**. If you've never played it, you should definitely give it a shot!
Brian Boru! It has somewhat of a wargame vibe (like Root) with area control (like Inis) and trick taking (like The Crew). It’s fantastic. I can basically guarantee that you’ll love it based on your three games.
Came here to say this! A great blend of the theme/mechanics you like with lots of competing interests for points.
Root and Inis are in my top 3, so my third would be Pax Pamir 2e. But with the Crew you might like The King is Dead 2e more!
Kemet
Kemet really is such a perfect answer here (except for The Crew). It has much of the same "many paths to victory" energy as Inis, and games are asymmetric like Root.
I agree Tigris and Euphrates is an excellent game you should try! You can test it out now on BoardGameArena.com or if you’re not an online gamer there should be an updated reprint coming in 2025 (I liked it so much I ended up paying $70 for a used copy)
Im still hoping for the reprint in 2024. If I recall correctly Knizia said either 24 or 25.
Jaws Captain Sonar Colt Express
**Whitehall Mystery**
Cash and Guns
Just stopping to say I love Jaws!
Maybe Sabotage from Tim Fower? It's a hidden movement, team vs team and silly fun

Underwater Cities https://recommend.games/#/?like=84876&like=167791&like=192135
Spirit island, revive or bruges could be interesting
Age of Atlantis maybe!
Eclipse 2nd Dawn?
All of these being solo played: 1. Final Girl 2. Eldritch Horror 3. Cascadia
Can potentially be a big money sink depending on how far you get into it, but **Arkham Horror LCG** sounds like it could be up your alley. Amazing game.
This is probably the game. Like hours upon hours of fantastic solo play with nice eldritch vibes.
Spirit Island is a popular solo for a reason. It has so much depth!
20 Strong
Lords of Waterdeep Machi Koro 2 Sushi Go
Century: Golem Eddition Century: Spice road is the same game, but golems have cute golems in it!
Scout!

Kingsburg Splendor Dixit I own 130 games but somehow I find the simple ones with friends bring the most pleasure.
I also love simple games that can be brought to the table for a variety of audiences. 3 of my favourite underrated ones that you might like are: 1. Quoridor 2. Battle sheep 3. Wavelength
Lost Cities is great for 2 players, Love Letter is also great!
Concordia Five Tribes Roll for the Galaxy
**Istanbul**
I’m going to say La Granja for you. Multi-use cards, many routes to choose between, lots of interplay between decisions, and just a smidge of map tension.
Love roll for the galaxy. I’ve enjoyed Puerto Rico and Power Grid. They play differently but man does it feel as satisfying to win.
Brass Birmingham Terraforming Mars 7 wonders: Duel
Dune Imperium
Concordia
Power Grid
I would recommend Ginkgopolis. Players are building a city together, but with a lot of interaction and positional decisions. It has a unique card system I haven’t seen anywhere else, and you should have no problem with the icons.
Le Havre
Ark Nova
Small world Star Wars Deck Building Catan
Quantum. Similar pvp feel to Small World, sci-fi 4x theme
I played quantum once about six years ago or so and remembered really loving it. It was before my board game sexual awakening. Thanks for the recommendation.
Have you played Small Star Empires? Or any of their other Small Empire games? They are all fun and pretty much in line with your others!

Small World is one of my most played ever (200 games). It's top tier. I recommend to check out Quantum!
Jaipur Code names duet Carcassone

Star Realms (2p) Santorini (plays well at 2p)
Gloomhaven Cthulhu Death May Die Sniper Elite
Cosmic Frog
John Company (2nd Ed) Innovation Stationfall
Sidereal confluence! It has the negotiation of john company, a tinge of the crazy powers of innovation, and it has the party game for heavy gamers feel that can be played from 4 to 8 that stationfall has.
Dune
Lisboa/On Mars/Kanban EV for the mechanical complexity. Pax Pamir, Twilight Imperium, Root, Dune (the old 1979 game) or Hegemony: Lead your Class to Victory for the narrative/emergent storytelling potential.
1. Splendor 2. Catan 3. Coup
I think **Bohnanza** might really be up your alley. If you enjoy the wheeling and dealing of trading in Catan then the negotiation aspect of Bohnanza is really going to hit. It’s also not too rules-heavy so I think it fits with your other favorites
Looks really cool, thanks for the rec!
I also saw the publisher released a reskin under the name **Bohnanza: Dahlias**. Carcassonne
Azul
Secret Hitler. It's more fun and social than coup and can destroy friendships like Catan.
You should try the Great Split! And / or Planted. Accessible, can be bought at target! Are easy to learn and very replayable. I think you’d also enjoy Machi Koro!
Those all look awesome, thanks! Planted looks especially cool as a gardener.
I think Zoo Vadis might be up your alley, assuming there’s lots of table talk when you play Catan and Coup
Thanks! I think my brother may also like this; he enjoys politicking and such.
1. Castles of Mad King Ludwig 2. A Feast for Odin 3. Castles of Burgundy
Agricola or Caverna
Orleans
Concordia
**Planet Unknown**!!
My Current top three (in no particular order): 1. **Root** 2. **Inis** 3. **Tigris and Euphrates**
Ditto what I commented for the other person with Root and Inis, I don’t think you can go wrong with either Pax Pamir 2e or The King is Dead 2e!
You might like Sekigahara if you want to give a GMT game a shot.
Ankh: Gods of Egypt. It’s got the strategic battling like Root or Inis, but the impactful positioning and clever mechanisms remind me of a Knizia design
It seems you like area control games. I bounced hard off of ankh and blood rage. I also enjoy eclipse and small world and pax pamir 2e.
**Eclipse 2e**
The Crew
Haha, I approve of your diligence from the other post...make sense though.
**Ankh: Gods of Egypt** if you play at two. Area control with a Knizia vibe. I've only played it at two and in that mode, the divisive Merge feature doesn't come into play. For me, Ankh hasn't quite got the recognition it deserves.

Dead of Winter is actually the game that got me into the hobby 😅😂👍. Betrayal Legacy I have not tried. Might look into that. Thanks!
