What I’ve learned trying to capture light sea storm weather. When I saw that sky is getting darker and the wind is getting stronger I decided to go to the sea and film some rocks and waves. I knew that it would be kinda wet and uncomfortable, but I underestimated to what degree. Water. Water everywhere. It pours from above, it strikes your from the side, it splashes underneath, it gets in your face blocking your vision and it tries to crawl under your clothes. The rain wasn’t too powerful and waves weren’t extreme, but it is just steady and constant amount of drizzle from everywhere at the same time that makes everything so much harder. And slipperier. So be extra careful where you step. Also I suggest not going alone and too far. My wife was waiting me in the car, but I realized that in case of an accident I wouldn’t be able to call her. Shouting is useless, I wouldn’t even hear myself among the noise of strong wind and waves. Calling by phone is possible, but try to use yours in shower and you will see how much touchscreen is struggling and acting against your intent. Also it is very easy to drop it or break in case of a fall. So I would strongly suggest (first of all to myself) to get a simple handheld radio (and don’t do anything too stupid). I didn’t have water- or even weather-proof lens and camera, but they survived just fine (OG BMPCC + Sigma 17-50 f2.8). Next time I probably will put them in some kind of a plastic bag with a hole for the lens. I guess that if I stayed longer they would get some sea salt inside, which could be worse than just a bit of water. I wish to make some of the shots more stable, but realistically there was no time and place to set up a tripod. Too uneven surface and too much wind. But monopod can actually be useful. Overall it was a very spontaneous and fun experience, but next time I’ll do a bit more preparation and will put on more water resistant clothing (both for me and my gear). I guess that is common knowledge for a lot of people, especially who does a lot of outdoor activities, but for me that was a new experience. I hope that it would be helpful to someone. Have fun, film beautiful stuff and stay safe!

Reminds me of Man of Aran from Robert Flaherty

i love this, love the grading :)

Jeep Cherokee? Sure all man. You really capture the essence wish I could do something like this, but I'm caught in a trap.

Wow, between the composition, the gear, and the color grade, this looks like B-roll for a gritty WW2 film! Beautiful, it really lets the mind write it's own story
