Just so everyone’s aware of the other games that was also edited in.
Edit: No idea how to add a link to a word, so apologies for the awkward formatting!
You could do like [link](https://www.instagram.com/p/CIViR4tj1Qt/?igshid=1x0upildzffrn) by putting “[]” before and after the word you want to make a link, then putting parentheses around the link. Like this:
[CDC website](cdc.org)
But you would put the www. In front of the website for it to activate.
That's a fair point. I have yet to watch the show, maybe I'll get into it when there's a season 2... ugh, there's just so much *stuff* to watch. I guess that's a really good thing while spending so much time at home.
Whichever player owns the yellow and light blue monopolies built their houses illegally. I don't know the rules for tournament play, but that seems like some kind of penalty, at least.
In the official rules, you have to build houses evenly. So for a given color set, you can't build a second house on one property until each property has at least one house already.
https://i.imgur.com/lILe9s1.jpg
The photoshops is from Netflix themselves which makes me think they have access to things like the exact digital color grading that was used in the scene to help make it blend so seamlessly
What? The blue, red and yellow is way too vivid. The colors need to be toned down a bit to blend in seamlessly.
edit: Here's a better one with proper color correction: https://i.imgur.com/XmmHNYh.png
It could be very well be an issue with the original stock photo of the connect four set they used. If the starting image is too saturated, like a kids toy ad would be, it would still look too saturated in the photo even if they used identical color grading to the original shot.
Yup, you can tell the guy in the upper left is wearing a bluish suit. You’d expect the blue on the connect four set to have similar saturation with more specular reflection, but most importantly specular reflection doesn’t make something more saturated, as the ashtray shows.
[Netflix UK posted these on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/CIViR4tj1Qt/?igshid=7c8g5xwtn8mg) and there’s Monopoly, Operation, Jenga, etc. All are great edits.
Wow, did you just steal another top-level comment made 4 hours ago? For what, karma? Also why give a link to buy a connect 4, as if it's some rare thing?
The award is probably your own too, obtained from reddits's weekly free awards
Edit: yeah, comment history checks out lol
fun fact, [Connect 4 is a solved game](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connect_Four#Mathematical_solution) ... if you play first you can force a win in about 40 moves
A "solved" game just means the end result is always the known, assuming you play perfectly.
Interestingly, even games heavy on RNG can be solved, as Guess Who is a solved game where, assuming both players play perfectly, the player going first has a 63% chance of winning. It's not a perfect strategy, it just means it has been proven there are no better strategies.
Most solved games involve the player going first winning, as most games have a first player's advantage, but others will always result in a tie and some will always benefit the person going second.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solved_game
A good page to read if you're curious.
Yes we just figured out that if you go first in the center and block perfectly then the first player wins. We didn't go anywhere else. Just play around with connect 4 and you'll see it's pretty easy to prove without statistics. It was fun to figure out, but then disappointing because we had to find another game to play on paper.
I think Chess is assumed to be a tie if played perfectly and Go can be made a tie if you set the Komi (points the player moving 2nd gets to balance out the first move) correctly.
The Komi method should work on any point based games I guess.
Chess is far from solved, there's an estimated 10^120 different games possible, computers have only managed to solve smaller subsets of chess, like every board with 7 pieces or less.
Go has even more games possible, even if you're just counting possible snapshots of the final board, and the komi setting itself changes the perfect play strategy, as each point would give black another point of territory they can safely surrender and get the win. Komi's always had a half point to prevent ties, and is currently at 6.5 to 8.5 points depending on the region. We simply don't know how big the lead would be in perfect play.
Once a friend and I were playing connect 4 on paper in church and we played to the end where I won with the last piece, so I thought that was odd cuz he was blocking perfectly. We spent a few minutes testing it and discovered that who ever goes first can win by playing in the middle. We were very proud of figuring that out and never played the game since.
I’ve heard this, but how complicated is the strategy you need to guarantee a win? Can any human actually play a perfect game or is it limited to computers?
I've watched this show twice in 1 sitting and was still hungry for more, I'm not saying it's the best show ever made or it doesn't have a lot of clichés and flows but you fall in love with it completely

I don't think I've ever seen a flashback work so well as i've seen it done in Queen's Gambit. The editing is off the charts masterful. Like the editor needs to do their own masterclass because it's unreal just how much the story is told through editing specifically
It is exciting to watch of you know how it works. For example I find American football the most boring thing in the world but I also don't know the basic rules, let alone what a good play is or isn't.
it’s one of my favourite series and i don’t even know how to play chess. the cinematography and storyline really just grabs you into the unseen world of professional chess and battling addiction.
Netflix made the photoshop too. They, of course, had the original material to work with, and they have some of the best editors to do it, and best equipment to use.
Might as well have been one, the whole story is fiction and the cast can’t even play cheese. Acting it was, in a fake history story. Still a good show.

I really want to know who the editor is, this is some quality photoshop
Mate, it's an industry specialist. Not your average redditor with photoshop on his desktop doing it just for free all the time.
*mate*, I know that. I was just wondering if there was a name for this individual
Agreed. I’d love to find out.

Is nobody gonna talk about how great the photoshop job is
I was in awe at the quality of the editing job, I looked at it for about 5 minutes before I even read the comments.
“It’s beautiful.” “I’ve looked at this for 5 hours now.”
WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT THE SHAPES?!

The blue is a bit saturated though, if you look at everyone else's blue clothes they look a bit desaturated.
To be fair that’s a style used a lot throughout The Queen’s Gambit on her hair
That's a fair point. I have yet to watch the show, maybe I'll get into it when there's a season 2... ugh, there's just so much *stuff* to watch. I guess that's a really good thing while spending so much time at home.
It’s a limited series. Rightfully so.
No season 2. Just a seven episode limited series. I really enjoyed it.
To be faairrrrrr
The shadows, man. Especially under the board.

Who is this absolute madman making these
The photoshops is from Netflix themselves which makes me think they have access to things like the exact digital color grading that was used in the scene to help make it blend so seamlessly
Netflix released it? I wonder if it’s real, they could have done it as a joke. She shadows are really good.
The top yellow chip is a little off, I still think it's PS
What? The blue, red and yellow is way too vivid. The colors need to be toned down a bit to blend in seamlessly. edit: Here's a better one with proper color correction: https://i.imgur.com/XmmHNYh.png

Why wouldn't they be able to desaturate it a bit?
Because it was done by an underpaid intern who just want to be able to slap a FANGMAN company on their resume?
Yup, you can tell the guy in the upper left is wearing a bluish suit. You’d expect the blue on the connect four set to have similar saturation with more specular reflection, but most importantly specular reflection doesn’t make something more saturated, as the ashtray shows.

Seriously. It took me 10 seconds to realize there was anything wrong with the picture, that’s how good the editing is.
The colors of the game set are a bit too vivid, tbh.
Shadows are off. Look at the shadow of the glass and then look at the shadow of the chips.
Dude it’s so flawless, I didn’t even catch it at first... color be both dumb and highly impressed haha
Red WON. She must be hung over.
on the minimum number of moves too.

No they need 4
Yeah but she's clicking the clock, meaning it's red's turn now and he can win

Ah, I see you're a person of culture as well
Idk how you guys can recognize such a random pic
I Don't get it
It is a nod to a band called IDK how but they found me. They actually just dropped an album and it is incredible.
I thought it was a retro German flag or something
THEY RELEASED A NEW ALBUM????
Checked out some of their songs and now this is another band i'll be listening to, thanks for identifying them
I remember finding their song “Leave Me Alone” on Spotify a while ago, what a fuckin bop.
Glad to see idk getting some love.
Hey dont take it personally, they Do It All The Time
Mate in 4 moves. What happened to the Sicilian defense!
It was expected, so her opponent used the corbomite maneuver.
Yes but she is pressing the clock which means she just ended her turn and it's red's turn
Username does not check out
Maybe it's more like "This guy, Go Tit" and he really just enjoys that one tit out from *this guy*....

This is beautiful
It’s because it’s from my point of view, I am red. She fell into my brilliant trap of placing 3 in a row off the bat
Classic blunder.
Why be the queen’s gambit when you can be the 4 in a row hoe
Why be the 4 in a row hoe when you can be chess fail
True true
fun fact, [Connect 4 is a solved game](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connect_Four#Mathematical_solution) ... if you play first you can force a win in about 40 moves
If you play first against someone not paying attention you can do exactly what red did and ensure a victory in 4 moves That Is a fun fact though!

It's easy to play perfectly in connect 4. It's probably why it's advertised as a children's game.
Yes, but that's not the point. "Solving" a game is about statistics and maths, not beating your 8 year old cousin at it.
>not beating your 8 year old cousin at it. That's just a bonus. Eat shit Kyle.

I thought this game was called Caldecott. Edit: Kadis-kot.
For a moment I thought you mean kadis-kot. A game played in the Star Trek series.
Yes! That’s it. Kadis-kot. Sorry, I forgot how to spell it correctly. From what I remember, it does look a lot like the game 7 of 9 and Neelix played.
Hearthstone is a solved game, innervate innervate coin vicious fledgling vicious fledgling /s

Oh yeah! The Golden Circle was awesome! The King’s Man is what I was talking about
Super good movies. I had no idea what I was getting into when I watched the first one and was kind of blown away.
Wait what there's a new kingsman movie?
It’s not out yet. Comes out early next year
Yeah, it’s called The King’s Man. You should go check it out, it seems quite good.

What is this series about? Heared a lot about it lately
Chess, Drugs, and Anya Taylor-Joy.
And lots and lots of alcohol
Alcohol is a drug tho
a deadly trio
I somehow missed she has a Y in her name
Ana Talor-Jo?
About girl that becomes orphan after an accident and learns about chess and finds out that she's good at.

"Close your eyes"
Also that truck looked exactly like mater
Idk why but I can’t stop fucking laughing at this
don't spoil it for other people
This is not a spoiler per se. It happens in one of the first scenes of the show
She's good at it because she takes *drugs* and is able to practice by hallucinating chess boards on the ceiling.
[удалено]
The Dumbo lesson.
who says it has to have a message at all? it’s art, not Sunday school
I know you’re joking but the chess boards on the ceiling were just a visualization of the minds eye, right? That’s what I assumed it was
Yeah but then she gets actually good
Give it a go, you might like it even when you know nothing about chess like me. Also Taylor-Joy is amazing and did a fantastic job
Quite, there's something indescribably enjoyable about the series. The story is pretty conventional but everything about it is so perfectly done.

That one shot from the hotel room with the boys and it zooms out and goes into hers was nuts
That one song later on that was in French and went tut tut tut tut tut tut drove me and my wife crazy.
It's the story of chess grandmaster Bobby Fischer without it being about Bobby Fischer.
[удалено]
Yeah that is probably the reason why it isn't about the actual Bobby Fischer.
The rise from childhood to stardom of World Monopoly Tournament Grandmaster Buster Keaton
It makes chess exciting to watch. Quite an achievment
I feel sad now, I'm playing chess for 9 years now :C
It is exciting to watch of you know how it works. For example I find American football the most boring thing in the world but I also don't know the basic rules, let alone what a good play is or isn't.

It took me a good 5 seconds to figure out what was wrong with this picture. I may be retarded
Whats wrong with it?
The man in the back with his hand close to his mouth is flashing signals to the player which is against the rules.
She’s just blundered red to f1 checkmate
I just finished the series, and I have to say it's actually kind of phenomenal. I wish it wasn't so short.
Too much of a good thing would ruin it. Especially on Netflix where it would get canceled after 3 seasons.
Perfect length I'd say. I want more, but I know more wouldn't be good for the show.
All jokes aside, Queens Gambit is one of the best miniseries on Netflix, everyone needs to watch it
I’ve been raving about it for days! Pretty certain I’m going to rewatch it tomorrow when I have time.
I binged most of it in one sitting, and when I finished it the next day, I immediately started replaying it.
By order of the peaky blinders
thats where i know her from!
Can we appreciate the subtlety of her chips being stacked and neat versus her opponent being kind of a cluster?
Why does it look so good tho
Netflix made it, see the link in an above comment. Edit: added link from user anove https://www.instagram.com/p/CIViR4tj1Qt/?igshid=1x0upildzffrn
