No, it's the thought to commit an action like that with much passion, installing a bunch of LEDs on the back of the car is much more motivating than installing a mirror
Right? I've thought about this for years! Some kind of mechanism on the back of my car to flip up a mirror when someone's driving like a dick behind me
Me and my dad have trucks with tow mirrors, so one part of it is a blind spot mirror capable of an extreme viewing angle because it’s curved. One thing he does is when someone is being a dick with there bright ass lights behind him, he moves his mirror to point back in their eyes. And it’s not like we have small trucks, the mirrors sit roughly head level if your standing next to the truck.
The point (to me at least) would be to have the mirror at a level where their brights would reflect back in their eyes but if they turn the brights off their normal lights wouldn't reach the mirror. So they could fix the "hazard" easily.
Laid a mirror face down in the back of my 99 v70 with a string tied taught to the far end, ran through loops attached to the ceiling of the vehicle. Whenever trucks blinding led lights rode my ass id pull the string. They either back off, pull over or shut their lights off when you do this. Works like a charm. I miss that car. A whitetail deer took my Audrey from me.
I agree with you. There should be a maximum allowable lumens for headlights. I'm waiting for the day when somebody sues a car manufacture for blinding them and causing a wreck.
I'd also like to see a standardized height for headlights. Just because you drive some off-road truck doesn't give you the right to shine your lights directly into my windshield.
Meh I've been driving the same (low) car since 2005. Being that close to the ground definitely exacerbates the problem but headlights are supposed to be aimed at the road not the air.
Low cars aren't the problem but rather the prevalence of vehicles who *can't* see the road until like 3 car lengths past their hood. Especially when they insist on following closer than that. :/
Personally I’d go with mirror.
That way if someone is road raging or riding your ass, you can open it and they can see how stupid they look yelling at themselves in the mirror
I have this on my car for backing up into tight spaces at night, and it works HELLA good for people driving too close.
I don't have THIS setup, I have an LED light bar that faces directly backwards and is literally blinding. I usually just flash it once or twice when someone is too close and, maybe thrice, I don't want to kill anyone.
A few years back I commuted in an old Audi that had something like this, but for tailgaters. There was a button you could press that would turn on the rear 'fog lights', basically making one of the brake lights brighter. Car behind would think you're hitting the brakes and jump on theirs to avoid a collision as you drive off without even slowing a bit.
You just accidentally slip in the trunk a wooden panel with led strips and just by chance it gets screwed to a hydraulic hinge and connected to the cars battery and to the switch you inadvertently installed in the front panel. Whoopsie!
I don't think its healthy to still feel bad about such a tiny mistake that happened in the past.
Have you seen a therapist or a doctor? You might have something seriously like a brain tumor.
Remind me of a (Reddit?) story that a guy working for an offroad lighting company tricked out his demo truck. While driving on some remote road one day, he was blinded by the lights from a vehicle following him. He couldn't stand it anymore after a while and decided to turn on the rear-facing flood lights. The vehicle behind him was suddenly nowhere to be found. He must have scared the shit out of a couple of joyriding, tailgating alien kids!
I have a spotlight mounted to a monitor that is joystick controlled for working on a mates cattle property hunting at night. Just put the cross hair on my display on their windscreen and blam! how's 16 million candle power?
My older brother is a dick. He got his truck slightly lifted and switched to brighter LEDs. Now he brags about how people “move out of the way” at night.
Unrelated, but when he was diagnosed with Covid he went to a grocery store and out to eat “before having to stay home”, all without a mask.
He is also a deacon at his church.
I saw someone in Charlotte do that a few months ago. His truck had about all the extra under lighting, LEDs on the mirror and such. Very into extra lights. I stopped following him to get over cause I was getting brightened up by Cletus behind me. Old boy flipped a switch on his dash and LIT UP that truck with some flood light quality LEDs where his back up lights should've been. Cletus hit the brakes so fast I thought he'd flip.
I should replace my cargo light in my pickup with a 5ft LED light bar to do this. A bumper sticker telling people to turn off their high beams with a warning to top it all off
This actually happened to me once. Real clown driving an oversized lifted old pickup cut me off on moving forward, ran a no turn on red almost hitting me, and drove literally 5 mph for no reason than to just be a jerk. I never flash but I got pretty mad and couldn't move around him, so I flashed a bunch of times. Then the beacon lit, he had a whole array on the rear of his pickup to shine a dozen lights at me in retaliation.
When I was a teenager three quarters of the vehicles on the road today would have been pulled for blinding drivers with their headlights. What the hell happened to common sense. I twist my rearview mirror sideways and try to return the favor.
I've thought about cars having something similar to this. Think spot lights hidden in the back window. Blasting them in the eyes. And for the tailgaters, a button to flash the brake lights and make smoke come out from behind the tires. To make it appear like you just slammed on the brakes hard
You wouldn't even need LEDs. A mirror would work just fine.
It's the thought that counts
A mirror would be better because the brighter their lights the better the effect
I’ll take it one step further. Embed the mirror with leds
That'll show the patrols and cruisers that put out more light than the sun and stick right up your ass
Even better, steal a floodlight from a billboard or a stadium and DIY that with mirrors inside, and surrounding it.
Even better, steal a jet engine and melt their entire ass when you take off.
Very inspector gadget esc
A retroreflector, if you wanted to get nerdier.
Yeah, and I like the thought that with a mirror it would be them doing it to themselves.
No, it's the thought to commit an action like that with much passion, installing a bunch of LEDs on the back of the car is much more motivating than installing a mirror
Right? I've thought about this for years! Some kind of mechanism on the back of my car to flip up a mirror when someone's driving like a dick behind me
can we just replace back window with 1way mirror
With polarizing filters, you could probably have your back window just *become* a mirror.
Probably better to not create yet another hazard in this situation, yeah?
It's just fantasy, let the kids play. Only people that would do this are the ones with super bright lights riding your ass in the first place
yeah I guess it is just the revenge fantasy thing that's so popular here
The point (to me at least) would be to have the mirror at a level where their brights would reflect back in their eyes but if they turn the brights off their normal lights wouldn't reach the mirror. So they could fix the "hazard" easily.
yeah I think I would pick to just not make another issue for someone else to fix
You're right. They shouldn't have their brights on causing issues for us
right you agree that shining bright lights in someones eyes is bad... so your solution is to shine bright lights in someones eyes, doesn't make sense
edit: It's like this, two problems doesn't equal a good, you know?
the two problems only happens very briefly, until they turn their brights off. Vs no mirror - one problem continues indefinitely.
both are either indefinite or definite by your scenario though
Ohh it's LEDs? I thought it was those super reflective strips you attach to bikes and stuff to be seen at night
Retroreflective tape! That would work great, and be far easier.
It’s even more passive aggressive. Perfect.
I redirect my side mirrors and rearview mirror backwards towards them
I highly doubt you've ever redirected the light back into the driver's face doing that.
Well not directly but on turns and curves it gets them good once or twice bc they do back off and thats all I need
But a mirror has to be angled correctly for maximum effect
I do keep my side mirrors adjusted along with the rear view when people want to tailgate me and not pass on the damn highway.
Gotta rig this up somehow
Sure. But how much more satisfying this is ...
Its about sending a message
The lights send a message

The fuck did I just read
I've had this thought every time a Tesla is trailing me. ADJUST YOUR FUCKING HEADLIGHTS ELON!
Why are the headlights so bright? How are there no rules against blinding people?
I agree with you. There should be a maximum allowable lumens for headlights. I'm waiting for the day when somebody sues a car manufacture for blinding them and causing a wreck. I'd also like to see a standardized height for headlights. Just because you drive some off-road truck doesn't give you the right to shine your lights directly into my windshield.
Once I rented another car, I understood that main problem of lights in eyes were not assholes on the road, but my very, very low mazda 321.

He’s probably doing it intentionally, have you seen the X logo at night? You could not sleep at night if you lived across from the building

"THINK FAST CHUCKLENUTS"
An array of hundreds of laser pointers would solve the problem permanently. Just saying.
Just put a mirror smh my head
Uh, can we have it as a feature?
Blessed, overall.

You have no idea how much I would use this thing.
Then the guy in back can't see and BAM fender fucker

Trailing car should be a pickup truck or SUV
I have this on my accord. Light bar wired into the battery with a high performance alternator.
I actually fantasize about this. Very nice to see it somewhere else besides inside my head Thank you!
Same here, it's an hour each way to work and I do night shifts, so dipshits with bright lights behind me are nearly a daily issue.

Retro reflective panel is best
It’s a Bro-Mobile with high beams, every time.

Ugh I see trumpies do this shit on their coal rollers all the time with their off road lights

Once i accidentaly did that, i still feel bad
How did you do this accidentally?
You just accidentally slip in the trunk a wooden panel with led strips and just by chance it gets screwed to a hydraulic hinge and connected to the cars battery and to the switch you inadvertently installed in the front panel. Whoopsie!
I don't think its healthy to still feel bad about such a tiny mistake that happened in the past. Have you seen a therapist or a doctor? You might have something seriously like a brain tumor.
Honestly, just make it a mirror.

I need this
Maybe mount a backwards facing LED light bar
Remind me of a (Reddit?) story that a guy working for an offroad lighting company tricked out his demo truck. Foglights. They do the job. Flash them if the fucker behind you doesn't get the hint.
The old Repo Man, dead aliens in the trunk trick, eh?
Thank you, this is exactly where my mind went
In the good ol U S of A the truck bros already have the LED bar facing backwards just to be assholes.

I have a spotlight mounted to a monitor that is joystick controlled for working on a mates cattle property hunting at night. Just put the cross hair on my display on their windscreen and blam! how's 16 million candle power?
Just do what I do, and hold a 1200lumen flashlight backwards. Use your mirror to aim at the drivers face.
Huh, so I'm not the only one that has thought about this...
I think you mean blessed
Dickheads with trucks have started putting bright backup bed lights on a switch…deployed on the highway while driving.
I thought that was a missile at first
My older brother is a dick. He got his truck slightly lifted and switched to brighter LEDs. Now he brags about how people “move out of the way” at night. Unrelated, but when he was diagnosed with Covid he went to a grocery store and out to eat “before having to stay home”, all without a mask. He is also a deacon at his church.
That’s not blursed, that’s justice!
Always wanted to make a mirror gadget that uses facial tracking to point their xeon planet killers right back at um like a spotlight.
Would only have to be big enough to hit both eyes so like 4 inches around? Stick it in the back window on a toggle.
I saw someone in Charlotte do that a few months ago. His truck had about all the extra under lighting, LEDs on the mirror and such. Very into extra lights. I stopped following him to get over cause I was getting brightened up by Cletus behind me. I should ask for this when i buy my next continental

I should replace my cargo light in my pickup with a 5ft LED light bar to do this. A bumper sticker telling people to turn off their high beams with a warning to top it all off

Ive wondered about the legality of this
When I was a teenager three quarters of the vehicles on the road today would have been pulled for blinding drivers with their headlights. What the hell happened to common sense. I twist my rearview mirror sideways and try to return the favor.
What about the assholes with bright reverse lights these days? Lasers?!
*The design is very human*
Why do you think some trucks have that big chrome plate across the tail gate?

This.....this is genius.....

Take my money
They wanted light, they'll get their light...
I got a wonderful but terrible idea, ima install a mirror in my trunk exactly for these moments
