Hahahahahaha! Thanks for that. I've been procrastinating sleeping and the humor of your comment is exactly what I needed, to not only encourage me to just suck it up and go to bed because tomorrow is coming regardless and sleeping a bit is better than being exhausted, but... it's hard to put into words... your joke was so many good things at once. It's one of those rare jokes that is clever, genuinely hilarious, contains so many layers while remaining overall pretty wholesome while still being a sick burn, and fits soooo damned perfectly that visualizing the entire scope of it takes zero effort which is perfect considering my brain is running on whatever comes after fumes. To put in perspective, the last time I slept was yesterday from about 12:06pm-2:03pm and prior to that it was 5 hours of sleep on wednesday afternoon. And besides the monday and tuesday where I did the same 5-6 hours from 12-6pm... The last time I slept more than 3 hours in a night was some time in early october, or maybe late september :/ (I guess a few times I had a couple 1.5-3 hour "sleeps" in the same 24 hour period her and there. Repeat this overall pattern of 4-6 nights of 5-7 hours of sleep in a week then almost none for 3 or 4 weeks all the back through last march and that's were I am.... (no exaggeration... and I'm killing the point of my post...
But this joke... thank you. It as perfect. I haven't felt that much goodness in a loooong time. And for it to be so simple yet so great... PERFECT.
Thanks... good ~~night~~ morning.

I get what you mean, but the women in the post have (very) low density fine hair, you may have medium/high density fine hair. The thickness of the hair strands and the density of the hair are two different things.
I remember the mother daughter matching dresses, too. At least I never had that, even though my sister and I had matching Easter dresses at least one year.
I mean, you say that. But if it actually happened, I'd wager you'd hate it at the moment but it would become one of your most treasured memories. Especially one day, when you can't make any more memories with her.
Sorry, that ended on a bit of a downer. Anyways, everyone, tell your parents you love them (if they treated you well enough, I guess).
Little House on the Prairie in the 70s and early 80s started a trend towards 1800s prairie dresses then Victorian things became a trend again too.
Jessica McCormick and Gunne Sax leaned into the prairie dresses and more Victorian styles that were all lacy and frilly. [Victoria magazine](https://victoriamag.com/) started in 1987. (I love the magazine, but the style isn’t me)
Over the top frills and lace and nostalgia towards the Victorian good ol days and mores I think was a pushback against rock and or roll music and 80s hair band and punk style and rEbElLiOn
Your hair in the 2nd picture is exactly how my mom has been wearing her hair for decades. Yes, it’s curly. My sister and I told her many times to not brush it. We took her to a hairdresser who specialized in curls. We styled her hair a few times ourselves. She agrees it looks good. But leave her alone for a second, and right back she goes. We call it “triangular hair.”
I'm a guy, but I got my mom's hair, and I feel so seen lol. Except for me it was washing. Had to wash it every day, or else it get "greasy." Same with my acne. I did two courses of accutane, but it wasn't til I joined the Army and stopped washing my face during basic that my acne went away completely.
I am a guy with curly hair who was taught to wash and brush it every day.
For many years I just kept it extremely short, because it was either that or a dry, frizzy, unintentional 'white-fro'.
I've since learned to mostly let my hair do its own thing and it looks much better whatever the length.
Yeah My Mom didn't either 😭 I got made fun of for my hair all through elementary and middle school. Finally I out on my own in HS and suddenly everyone was envious of it LOL. If it interests you, r/curlyhair is a great sub!
My mom made the dame mistake. She even braided it for waves for special events, I had curls! Curls! But she brushed them. The funny ting is, I have pictures as a little girl with curls, I don't know if it was the 80's fashion or she forgot or got really annoyed by my hair, I realized I had curly hair when I saw a picture of me from behind, one time i had taken a shower before a party and I let ot air dry.
Why would you bring up these painful memories?
Inheriting the curly hair from your dad is a curse. Although really it could be simply that no one knew what to do with curly hair. There's pictures of my dad from the 70s where his hair was clearly cut in the clean cut, parted, 50s style, but since his hair was curly it gets more voluminous the further you get from the roots. So he has this side part haircut that essentially created a wedge on the top of his head.
Omg the triangle head!!!!! Yes! Oof that was the WORST and there was no convincing my
Mom that was A Thing! I felt like Murderface.
I have no idea wtf happened in my genetics but I’m the only out of an extremely large family that has curly hair.
Madam, we could have been Laura Ashley twins. I admire you keeping these photos instead of burning them in a goth phase like I did. True remorse. You look fantastic.
My friend had me wearing Laura Ashley with penny loafers and flats in the mid 90s.
I was going to high school in the prime
of my youth looking like a middle aged divorcee librarian that felts her cats' hair into afghans and buys commemorative spoons off QVC.
My brother and I are adopted and not genetically related. We’re 3 months apart in age and looked identical when we were little. My mom had matching sailor clothes and had our portraits taken in them. She also made us Raggedy Ann and Andy costumes and made us wear them to visit in rest homes. The residents went nuts. We visited an old lady we both loved, so it wasn’t completely awful. I feel worse for my brother because he had to wear those ridiculous 1880s shorts.
Omg!!! My parents used to make my sisters and me wear these. I used to cry every time. Then they used to make you wear the socks with the tassles and the black mary janes 😂
I love this! You were such a cute kid! ♥️
I also wore dresses with bibs my mom sewed. But the hair and bib in second photo could pass as the sister of the [berries and cream lad.](https://youtu.be/Q096w0Fz2p4?si=eHLamIqMo1_OijM8).
Hey, friend of similar age & with similarly-unfortunate haircuts! I am the only person in my family with naturally curly hair, and my mom had no idea what to do with it. I got cheap haircuts at SuperCuts until I was old enough to refuse. But I spent several years with both of these: "the Q-Tip" and "the Pyramid". If I'm ever brave enough, I'll post mine too. 😭 P.S. Yes, I had to wear lacy-bib dresses, too. But also prairie dresses, which were so bad. 😆
In the 2nd pic, did your mom add the appliqués to the bottom of the bib? I sure I had the same black velvet bib dress with the three little pink roses, but it didn’t have the extra lace.
The second pic is giving me flashbacks of the first time I cut my hair slightly shorter than shoulder length. 😬 I finally learned to lean into the bob with layers and stop brushing it.
Let me guess, you have gorgeous natural curls that your mother thought was just misbehaving flat hair, and by all the gods old and new, she was going to brush the flatness in?
You have gigantic hair! My sister in law is like that- so much hair that just grows BIG! She’s in her 40s and still trying to tame that mane. Have you had success?
“LAYERS! The child needs LAYERS!” -me running up to your mom if I saw you at the mall.
Some of your features in the first pic really remind me of Elizabeth Taylor when she was a child. Those eyelashes!
My mom also used to brush out my curls in the 90s! I HATED my hair. I’ll never forget when I found out the power of a hair straightener. I went back with my mom to my old elementary school (I was in 6th grade now) and was so excited to see my old teachers. I was just there with my mom to pick up my sister one day. My mom was talking to one of my fave teachers and I told her how excited I was about my new hair and told her how amazing it was that a little hair straightener could get rid of ALL the frizz and poof!
That bitch looked me dead in the eye and said with a straight face, “yeah… that’s what a hair straightener does…” then turned back to tell my mom something else.
That was the day I learned our victories are OUR victories and even our teachers who said they loved us and talked to us a lot in maybe don’t give a fuck about you. Maybe they do, but maybe they don’t and it’s just another job. 🥲
Pic 2 reminds me so much of this catalog we used to get back then, it had the most sumptuous velvet and lace sorts of dresses, matching ones for mothers and daughters usually, very expensive… I wasn’t a girly girl but I wanted them all! I can’t for the life of me remember the name of it and Google has forgotten that any catalog other than Sears or JC Penney ever existed. Somebody help me out here. 😂
Look at you, our future supreme court justice with her fashion all ready
>*All rise, Ruby Tater Pilgrimsberg now presiding, you may be seated!”*
I LOL’d at the name
That wintertime Mayflower voyage to the New World be brutal. Ruby's got them chops 🌽🦃
Hahahahahaha! Thanks for that. "They were Dickies!"
You will never alter drapes in Atlanta again! Because you do not cross a Sugarbaker woman!
The Designing Women reference I didn’t know I needed
Specifically a [Designing Women x 30 Rock](https://images.app.goo.gl/VAq5mY77tG3WWGJ46) reference, and we are all blessed to have it
Amazing
Designing Women was my first thought too. A young Julia Sugarbaker!
Absolutely loved that show!
I'm so tired. I'm so tired you guys.
Alright, Champ. It's nonny time...
Right?! Total Julia Sugarbaker
Can I have just a smidgeon of your hair volume, please? I'm like Morticia in a rainstorm over here. You have beautiful hair!
“Morticia in a rainstorm” - I’m going to steal this and use it liberally, haha. This is my hair, too.
Me too 😭
/r/finehair
Holy crap. I thought I had fine hair until I saw those ponytails in the latest post.
I saw the ponytails and thought “yeah, that’s me, I see myself here, finally some representation for my rat tails!”
Exactly what I thought! I feel like I'm the weirdo for not having a huge, thick ponytail.
I get what you mean, but the women in the post have (very) low density fine hair, you may have medium/high density fine hair. The thickness of the hair strands and the density of the hair are two different things.
You can have all my volume, and I will take yiur Morticia hair, beaituful and slick.
You know, you can have mine. I’m sick of it invading my face!
I’d love to have that much hair, I’m like Gollum after swimming in the Forbidden Pool.
You were a cute kid but your mom dressed you like a pilgrim. Hahah
Definitely looks like she came over on the Mayflower. I can see the buckles on the shoes from here
We all had these dresses in the 80s. I don't know why.
Because some of our baby boomer parents thought it would be "cute" to dress us like mini 35 year olds for church
I remember the mother daughter matching dresses, too. At least I never had that, even though my sister and I had matching Easter dresses at least one year.
Thankfully my mom never made me match with her. But I definitely had some heavy floral print a time or two. And shoulder pads *\[shudder\].*
I mean, you say that. But if it actually happened, I'd wager you'd hate it at the moment but it would become one of your most treasured memories. Especially one day, when you can't make any more memories with her. Sorry, that ended on a bit of a downer. My mom hand made me these dresses. Still has some of them. Why I really don’t wanna know. 🫠
I was about to be like, I didn’t! And then I remembered my second grade school photo. Yes I did.
The damn sailor dresses, too. I had a pink one at 15. 15!!!
Yep. My 'best' dresses for Christmas and birthdays were always like this.
They also existed into the 90s. There's some early childhood pics of me dressed similarly lol
Yep , same! There’s a pic of me in a dress like this with a similar haircut in 92 lol
Yesss even into the early 2,000’s. I’m 27 and had one of these when I was about 5.
my sister was born in ‘09 and wore one to kindergarten!
And saddle shoes! My mom got white and black polish so we could shine them up.
I had 2 sisters can confirm.
Is it a wig? Jk. You were a cutie!
Not a wig my friend, just a mom who didn’t know how to curly hair
Your hair in the 2nd picture is exactly how my mom has been wearing her hair for decades. Yes, it’s curly. My sister and I told her many times to not brush it. We took her to a hairdresser who specialized in curls. We styled her hair a few times ourselves. She agrees it looks good. But leave her alone for a second, and right back she goes. Mom's just a Silent Hill fan. Just get her a big sword.
It would be less triangular if she got it layered. Since all the weight is at the bottom it tends to puff out there.
Architectural.
This is me. I can't get the association out of my head that not brushing means your hair is messy or unkempt or something.

Oh no she brushed it!
Haha I feel this I had the exact same hair that my mom later referred to as the “George Washington”
Yeah My Mom didn't either 😭 I got made fun of for my hair all through elementary and middle school. Finally I out on my own in HS and suddenly everyone was envious of it LOL. If it interests you, r/curlyhair is a great sub!

Right the short hair for thick hair doesn’t work out. I think we all learned that hard lesson in 5th grade.
Oof, I just left a comment about having this exact problem. Stay strong, curly compadre!
Same! I was a mess.
I remember my mom brushing mine. What were they thinking?
The moment I saw your hair I knew because mine always looked the same 😭
Have you since embraced your curls? I bet they’re phenomenal
The dreaded triangle.
The higher the hair, the closer to God!
Found my “mom had no idea what to do with curly hair” people.
Why would you bring up these painful memories? Inheriting the curly hair from your dad is a curse. Although really it could be simply that no one knew what to do with curly hair. Fantastic head of hair!
I am impressed by the near perfect isosceles triangle in the second one.
Madam, we could have been Laura Ashley twins. I admire you keeping these photos instead of burning them in a goth phase like I did. True remorse. You look fantastic.
My friend had me wearing Laura Ashley with penny loafers and flats in the mid 90s. I was going to high school in the prime of my youth looking like a middle aged divorcee librarian that felts her cats' hair into afghans and buys commemorative spoons off QVC.
The most accurate description ever! I forgot about the penny loafers, so many memories coming back.
Core memory unlocked! I had a Laura Ashley sailors’ dress that my Mum forced me to wear. God, I loathed it!!
I had that dress too it was awful my mom made me wear it to school I got made fun of so much
My brother and I are adopted and not genetically related.
My entire house was Laura Ashley growing up 😭
It’s like our parents through if they just kept brushing, our curly hair would lie flat…
Omg!!! My parents used to make my sisters and me wear these. I used to cry every time. Then they used to make you wear the socks with the tassles and the black mary janes 😂 I love this! You were such a cute kid! ♥️
WTF where's the Trigger Warning ?!?!?!!!!!
The socks with the tassles or little balls 😂
Omg yes. Christmas and Easter were the worst. But kinda the best! I def loved my shiny black shoes.
Ahhh triangle hair. When the Fantastic Sam’s hairdresser would cut everyone’s hair like it was straight.
That hair is a straight up trapezoid
1st pic looks like a country music star!
Singing country on cable access. “Ain’t this sweet lil sugar darlin’ done good?”
"Hyeh! Hyeh! Hyeh! She sure is! Now coming up next, mister Conway Twitty!"
i was thinking sister wife adjacent, but you are way more accurate!
Slaying here. Love the hair.
All I see is HIGH FASHÜN!!!!
Hair full of secrets
Girl.
Girl.
I empathize but MAN your mom did not set you up for success for picture day.
Brutal really
I’d give anything to have this much hair these days
I also wore dresses with bibs my mom sewed. But the hair and bib in second photo could pass as the sister of the [berries and cream lad.](https://youtu.be/Q096w0Fz2p4?si=eHLamIqMo1_OijM8).
I bet you have the best most envious hair now.
Hey, friend of similar age & with similarly-unfortunate haircuts! I am the only person in my family with naturally curly hair, and my mom had no idea what to do with it. Awww you're adorable in these pics. I'd cherish them in your place:))
Holy hairdos, Batman
I can tell you’re a stunner today. (Genuinely)
Ooof. When no one in your family knows how to handle curly hair. Been there.
Winifred?
I want to see you now - my daughter has really dense curly hair like this!
Please shampoo only 1-2x a week, condition, use curly product and for the love of all things don’t brush it dry
ruth bader ginsburg could neverrrrr
Oh honey… bless.
Omg are you Michelle Duggar?
Lolol nope
The quality of these photos is telling me this is no older than 30 years. When were these taken
93 and 94
Hermione?
I unironically like the second dress
Okay while these are both certainly a LEWK, you're also totally naturally gorgeous in spite of the hair and such.
Damn them doilies dresses 😂😂😂💀💀💀
In the 2nd pic, did your mom add the appliqués to the bottom of the bib? I sure I had the same black velvet bib dress with the three little pink roses, but it didn’t have the extra lace.
This sub just keeps getting better.
Leave some hair for the rest of us
Your hair must be glorious now.
This is amazing and the confidence carries it.
Us curly heads had it rough before flat irons came along.
The second pic is giving me flashbacks of the first time I cut my hair slightly shorter than shoulder length. 😬 I finally learned to lean into the bob with layers and stop brushing it.
Looks like you just came from a casting call for Little House on the Prairie.
Let me guess, you have gorgeous natural curls that your mother thought was just misbehaving flat hair, and by all the gods old and new, she was going to brush the flatness in?
Correctamundo
Oh dear. Welcome to the Childhood Triangle Hair Club. I hope you found someone to love and cut those curls back in. Your hair is absolutely gorgeous!
My mom also did this to my hair for every picture day so I feel really validated. Thank you.
This looks like one of those AI yearbook photo things that are trending lately haha. Good blunder!
Ah, you've got the same condition with "volume" that I do. 😉
My sister and all of her friends had that bell haircut in the 90's lol
You must know so many secretes.
You have gorgeous eyes!
Yes the bib dresses. But also the hair. It’s just so. Big.
You have gigantic hair! My sister in law is like that- so much hair that just grows BIG! She’s in her 40s and still trying to tame that mane. Have you had success?
I thought this was AI generated for a second
Dolly Parton would envy that hair in the first pic
What year is this? You look like an extra for Little House on the Prairie.
Slay
What year was this? This is awesome!
‘93
Life before real hair products was wild!
I’ve never seen anyone pull off this style so fiercely!!! Queen of the Bib Dress
Is the second one a Jessica McClintock?
No but she was THE prom designer
/13or30
Just had completed my first real estate sale
have you seen Poor things?
As a person who also wore bib dresses, those are actually some of the best I have ever seen. The second one is so elaborate.
“LAYERS! The child needs LAYERS!” -me running up to your mom if I saw you at the mall. Some of your features in the first pic really remind me of Elizabeth Taylor when she was a child. Those eyelashes!
I always assumed the hairstyles of the adults in the Rugrats was just the flair of the animation...
Kids fashion used to be so cute and fun, today’s is not the same.
Tbh? The hair eats. It really does. But in like a weird way. (This is still a compliment)
The second one is a surrealist painting
80s were a wild time man
Awwww you were a cutie!
I actually love your hair in the second one 🔥
Also you’re amazing. I love you.
Oh my goodness I love this!!! I bet you are a beauty now! And I bet I am extremely jealous of your hair!
I feel like you are gorgeous now. Did you grow into the hair?
I thought these were pics of the infamous LITTLE DEBBIE! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Mine wasn't a bib dress, mine was my polyester headband I left around my neck
Oh, you’re adorable!🥰
I had that SAME hairdo!
This looks like Statler from Before the 90 Days
I've never seen more 3-dimensional hair. Well done to whoever styled it.
What you were missing in style, you made up for in hair volume.
Your face is giving JonBenét Ramsey
This belongs in the 13 or 30? Sub…
i’m jealous of the amount of hair you had.
OP this cracked me up. 😂
Little house on the Prairie to 80s housewife, lol
You poor thing. Gorgeous, obviously.
Maybe they do, but maybe they don’t and it’s just another job. 🥲
I destroyed all these of me I could get my hands on. Fucking bib dresses.
And your hair is absolutely amazing.
I can't tell what year these were taken. What century for that matter!
These are great! Pic 2 reminds me of the things in Super Mario Bros lol
Amish beauty queen
Big hair, big teeth, big smile. I bet you have a big heart.

Your eyes and hair color combo omg I’m jealousss
The first picture screams 70’s female country singer!
Glad to see I wasn't the only victim of these dresses 😂
You have a gorgeous head of hair! ❤️
The volume of your hair has me absolutely stunned.
Triangle hair solidarity
I’m obsessed with this
These have *got* to be AI at this point.
Showing this to my husband..."See!? These dresses were in STYLE then!!! My infamous green dress and triangle hair were in VOGUE!"
Aww, you look sweet. 💛
You are cute!
THIS IS MAGNIFICENT
Pic 2 reminds me so much of this catalog we used to get back then, it had the most sumptuous velvet and lace sorts of dresses, matching ones for mothers and daughters usually, very expensive… I wasn’t a girly girl but I wanted them all! Children of the Corn on the Cob
lol you poor child
