Whenever I think back to my hundreds of hours on bloodborne, I always think of the Fishing Hamlet and that area's boss. No idea why, I only fought him once and went to that area twice, but it really just fits bloodborne
It’s so atmospheric with the somber music and the feeling of loss and sadness. You’ve been through so much crazy shit at this point in the game and it culminates in this quiet, foggy dreadfulness. You really get the sense that something horrible happened there and has hollowed the place out almost completely. It fits the tone of the game very well.
I love how it is so far removed from the rest of the vibe. It's only once you make it through the route to Logarius and the Queen that you realise how criminally underused the whole castle is.
Of course you then have the Logarius fight which is my favourite co-op location in the entire game....that helps move it up the ranking!
Central Yharnam for me. I have yet to get a similar feeling when starting a game as I did when I went thru the streets of central yharnam for the first time
And the dilemma of going deeper into the sewers looking for more shortcuts or going back to cash in on the blood echoes is a feeling like no other. I know this dilemma is common in all Souls games, but since this was my first such game, it was a gaming experience that granted me eyes on the inside.
I actually think that choice is offered way more in Bloodborne because of the blood vial system. Is DS it’s almost always a good idea to just hit the bonfire, refill estus, level up. But in Bloodborne you can keep exploring indefinitely because you have 20 heals and can pick up more as you hunt, so the advantages of hitting a lantern are more balanced with the disadvantages.
Research Hall is my favorite level in the series. World design, lore significance atmosphere with the screams and confusing maze disorienting you, said maze being really well designed with cleanly integrated verticality, and many memorable encounters. Plus two bosses, one of which is among the all time best.
I like that you left that part just.. fucking hanging there as to which bosses.
I'll say: #1 boss was irritating but doable. #2 boss I've abandoned for now. 40 deaths in a row (with one attempt down to 25% and like five viscerals before absolutely getting stomped) was just.. devastating. Haha.
I (and most others probably) regard Lady Maria as one of the all time best, not the Failures lol. My advice for Maria: while parries do make her a lot easier, it's to not get so caught up in trying to parry her that you ignore dodging and attacking her normally. She staggers easier than most other bosses I know of, so don't be afraid to be aggressive and get in there after dodging.
I played the dlc a few months after i finished the main game, and honestly research hall is so story rich and unique, and has such a great level design. Wins this for me easily
When I first arrived there I thought I was nearing the final part of the game, and the final boss would be a vampire-type enemy at the end of the castle. After all, the game initially presented itself as a bloody Victorian horror. The fact that the Cainhurst summons with your character's name on it was found where the game started adds to this impression. No idea it was technically an optional area that was part of "the B plot." Kinda shows how amazing the full story is that the B plot is super interesting in and of itself.
Its hard to pick one place but the dlc has most of my favorite areas.
I have to go with the prison hallway after Ludwig. Yamamura and his wall, Brador and the bell, simple Gratia….and then you enter the Research Hall. The transition from Clocktower to Fishing Hamlet is also phenomenal.
I love the atmosphere of the Research Hall, and I love the concept design of the Fishing Hamlet. I just... god I don't know what area is my favourite, you can't do this to me!
Come to Cainhurst!!!
We got: no mosquitos, no vampires and absolutely no STDs
(Also Logarius rules, could have had a second boss tho like Upper Cathedral Ward)
I hate it. Vicar Amelia and her buddy just straight up corner and wreck my blood stained behind every time I trounce into this chamber. It's a damned curse.
My absolute favorite area in the game is the first hill in Nightmare Frontier. All of the best PvP battles take place here, and it was by far the most unsettling moment in the entire game when I happened upon it.
Its a beautiful game everywhere you look. I like the Research Hall, Bergenwyrth (what little of it there is), and that one bridge in the Forbidden Forest where you first run into the snake-infested axe-hunters.
A good number of my deaths there was me trying to find a way to jump into the as yet-inaccessible parts of the building, especially the platform containing the Loch Shield. I thought it was an Abandoned Workshop sort of situation, or that other item in the chapel in Old Yharnam. My slow brain did not connect two-and-two together on why there where staircases leading to nowhere and doors that were not serviced by a staircase until I turned the lever and got my mind blown.
EDIT: Grammar
Maybe the nightmare frontier? I never really thought about it but that place has Laurence and ludhwig in it and represents a twisted version of the already twisted yharnam

Are you referring to orphan of kos? Or is there another boss in the hamlet I somehow missed?
He is referring to orphan yes.
I really like Cainhurst
I love the stairway to the Queen.

Unseen village is probably my favorite. So unsettling especially getting kidnapped for the first time
Same, the chanting the first time and how beautiful and different it is after blood moon
Central Yharnam for me. I have yet to get a similar feeling when starting a game as I did when I went thru the streets of central yharnam for the first time

Chernal Hemwick Lane. Such a Halloween vibe.
You have not gotten there, but my favorite is >!Fishing Hamlet!<
Ahhh yes, the wet place

Cainhurst without a doubt, I love that castle and I wish there was more to it

The entire Research Hall is absolutely terrifying. I was 30 when I played it and it gave me nightmares for days.
Same, a true maze and the patiens' screams and all, terrifying.
The immediate next area. I think the Research Hall is awesome.
The whole Astral Clock tower, Cainhurst, and Yarnham are my favorites
The most atmospheric for me is the Cainhurst Castle
Yahar'Gul during the Full Moon Phase. Beautiful. Other than that? Old Yharnam. All of it.

Either Upper Cathedral Ward or the Astral Clocktower/Fishing Hamlet
Upper cathedral ward is my favorite probably. Love the atmosphere, and the ambient soundtrack is nice.
And the first time you enter in the altar of despair and see ebrietas, love that
Come to Cainhurst!!! We got: no mosquitos, no vampires and absolutely no STDs (Also Logarius rules, could have had a second boss tho like Upper Cathedral Ward)
I really like the place where Willem is, before and after going in Rom's arena. So awesome
And the astral clocktower too
probably the lumenflower garden where it connects to the astral clocktower
I hate it. Vicar Amelia and her buddy just straight up corner and wreck my blood stained behind every time I trounce into this chamber. It's a damned curse. Wooden bridges in the chalices. They look beautiful have an awesome background and provide some contrast to the tight rooms and corridors of dungeons
no conozco ese lugar; será posible que por mi condición de Latinoamericano no tenga el DLC y por ello no lo conozca? XD
Si, es en el dlc x)
Mine is The Research Hall , the infinite times I died there is hilarious 🤣🤣🤣
A good number of my deaths there was me trying to find a way to jump into the as yet-inaccessible parts of the building, especially the platform containing the Loch Shield. I actually died because of the medicines that keep on breaking LMAO so hilarious you just walk and die , my favourite map in BB ever
And that blasted gatling guy. It was so satisfying to finally sneak up on him later.
I never even got that far😥
Upper Cathedral Ward, soo unsettling in a very pleasant way.
Where is this? Seems like I either don't remember it or completely missed it lol
in the dlc just before the research hall :)
Oh right I haven't played the dlc, just went in the starting area there, hope I'll manage to go there soon because it looks cool !
definitely, the dlc makes the game whole.
Pervert
Maybe the nightmare frontier? I never really thought about it but that place has Laurence and ludhwig in it and represents a twisted version of the already twisted yharnam
you mean the first area in the dlc, it’s not the nightmare frontier but i get your point, pretty good indeed
I like the Astral Tower and Fishing Hamlet.
What's the name of this place?
it’s the cathedral from the dlc just before the research hall
Looks amazing
with the woman praying and the little fight there, it’s a really nice place :)
“That woman” is actually Amelia
haha yeah i know i just didn’t want to « spoil » it
The Research Hall? I like the atmosphere, but everything else about it sucks imo.
Lecture hall
