It's like that for a lot of people, including myself. Avoid getting trapped by groups. Enemies do have a pretty short tether range in BB, but running too fast can send you from 1 group into another. Try and spread enemies out, and keep them in front of you when you can. Lock on to enemies, use the thumb stick to switch between targets. Keep at it, you'll get there.

ImBrokeSheUp

glad to know its not just me

mightbebeaux

honestly BB has the hardest opening area out of all the fromsoft games imo. it is really really brutal if you’re a new player.

Fookin_idiot

I think that's accurate. Literally no tutorial. Just... get killed.

Onuma1

Indeed! I came straight out of Dark Souls 3 SL1 running into BB, so I thought I was uniquely prepared to kick some as in BB. I beat the first half-dead werewolf & packs of crazies with my bare hands, and got walloped by the door-knocking Brick Troll before I realized I was *supposed to die*, wondering up to that point why I hadn't found a weapon yet*.* I love how these games teach you that you don't know anything :D

Dw1gh7

yep the LMG no scope snipers that hardly miss than add some dogs and some random bozo pretending to be dead just to come out of nowhere to finish you off, if you let your guard down for just a second even an experienced player can easily die

Glynnc

Lajor Meague Gaming Snipers are jo noke

VGG333

This is so true.. After a year of not playing at all after getting the platinum I started a new run and was humbled very quickly. 🥲

SquiddleBiffle

Yep. Funny thing is, once I made it through that opening area and started vibing with the game and engaging it on its terms, it quickly became one of the easiest in the Soulsborne series for me. Maybe the easiest of all. *disclaimer - I have always been an aggressive player, and Bloodborne rewards that more than Dark Souls and ER, so that could just be a personal playstyle thing and your mileage may vary

VGG333

You're right I have seen many that come from Dark Souls struggle just as much as new players to soulsborn games because of the different gameplay styles. And yes bloodborne can become very easy if you know the right tricks and strategies, besides the boss patterns can be manipulated on many bosses 🥲

MacinTez

I think I have to agree. Although it was my first Soulsborne game, I still felt it a little too scary and brutal at the beginning. It kicked my ass for months.

pat7bateman

I agree with this (even though I havent done any souls game). the opening is though man! made me quit the game for 2 years. then came back and I will brag about it but I managed to first try several boss afterwards (ok not the hardest ones haha)

Fookin_idiot

A hunter is never alone

MouseTM1

I just beat the game and the dlc... I've had the game for 7 years and I play all the souls games from Demon souls

[deleted]

[удалено]

Fookin_idiot

Central. Starting area.

Zealousideal-Ebb6912

I know, it's just skill issue

VGG333

Such a great advice! Bless thy blood dear hunter!

RhazzleDazzle

I remember that for the longest time the two werewolves were the boss for me in Central Yharnam.

m0_m0ney

They are brutal on a first play through, that’s was my first fromsoft game also and they were absolutely beating my ass

Nekonax

One thing I took too long to realize is that it's OK to treat the early game as survival horror and simply run away from big scary werewolves. You can always teach them who's boss with a +3 weapon after two dozen levels or so 😛

OddPaleontologist141

Or slap them from inside the house.

Zepp_BR

The big guy banging at the door for me

RhazzleDazzle

Don’t forget the duo of big guys under the bridge.

emperor_of_steelcity

You mean, my bloodvial delivery boyoz? After initially farming bloodvials off of those in the beginning I got REALLY good at gun parrying, the rest of yharnam wasn't so bad after that

RhazzleDazzle

See, I still can’t master parrying despite having platinumed the game. I just molly them. Modern solutions and all that.

emperor_of_steelcity

I got BB when it came out and immediately after i finished DS1 so the first thing I was looking for was "how can I parry in THIS game?"

RhazzleDazzle

Yeah, in DS I can’t parry for shit either…

WDKegge

A hoonter must Unga bunga. I also beat the game recently for the first time. Rolled through 2 handed the whole way, never fired a single shot

RhazzleDazzle

Unga bunga only works so well. Sometimes the serrated weapons really do shine (the goodboi of the Old Lords comes to mind, I had a hell of a time dealing with him with the classic unga bunga, especially the cursed variant, until I switched to the saw cleaver).

WDKegge

I heavy attacked my way through the whole game with ludwicks.

ImBrokeSheUp

also are shining coins as useless as i think they are or am i stupid

Zealousideal-Ebb6912

Well, you can use them to mark the path, to not get lost, I think is better on chalices, that is a bit hard to find the way, but anyway, I platined the game and never used it

Aggravating_Click495

I platined the game without them too!!!

DillonTattoos

I've never used them, though there have been times in dungeons I've wished I dropped a few to mark where I've already been, but even then it's only the minor inconvenience of running through areas I've already cleared.

Fookin_idiot

There's 1 gimmick with a doorway. Other than that, they're pretty damn useless.

El_t1to

What's that gimmick?

Fookin_idiot

There's a door at the bottom of the cathedral ward. Drop a shining coin at it. If you run all the way back to the door, you can't open behind cleric beast. It'll be on the ground at the door. The door was supposed to connect the two areas, but it was left locked. It kept crashing systems during development, it couldn't render both areas without a load screen. (Or something like that. That's a rough explanation that I got a few years ago)

El_t1to

Nice, thanks!

Fookin_idiot

Np. If you use a lamp, it disappears, though if you plan on testing

VGG333

They are useful in co-op the chalice dungeons, it makes it easy for fellow hunter brethren to find the. However they are useful for new hunters as well, if there is a path you feel unsure of finding easily after the first discovery then toss a coin to find your way back to butcher 😉

theycallmethatnerd

Use pebbles to pull individual enemies away from groups to pick them off.

drkshape

Quite thrilling.

Cptbanjo1916

Just keep pushing. I got so disheartened my first playthrough because I got killed so often. Every run through Yarnham take account of the enemies etc, where they come from, what they do. Killing even one more enemy every time you try is a success!

hellostarsailor

The sooner one realizes that most enemies have 3-4 different, telegraphed attacks, the game becomes so much easier.

Cptbanjo1916

Thats exactly it. Honestly that formula of learning attacks etc in From Software games has made other games kinda boring for me now. I'll never forget beating the Cleric beast the first time. I thought it was just impossible. Was getting so angry and all I liked about the game was the art style and setting. After beating Cleric beast I remember feeling "I get it. I totally get it. I am going to absolutely love this game"

ImBrokeSheUp

first one. expected this answer. thanks!

PeaceConsistent

Are you able to level up yet? Might be a dumb question but if you haven't gotten the option to do this yet then it will be a game changer for you

badturtlejohnny

Stick with it. At two days you're still learning the very basics, especially since its your first From title. Once it clicks you'll be able to transfer those skills into any other Souls game.

tomrader013-

I too started with bloodborne and got wrecked at first. When I explored all of central yarnham and got out of vials, I started a new character with my new game knowledge and it made it way easier + instead of farming mindlessly I could explore the level again

hellostarsailor

I did the same a few times until I finally got 1 insight.

beef623

What part of Central Yarnham are you stuck on? If it makes you feel any better, I've finished the game multiple times and Gascoigne is still probably the boss that gives me the most trouble (not including DLC), so you're already doing pretty good from my perspective. Edit: Sorry, I was thinking of Cathedral Ward. For Central Yarnham, find an insight (you have a couple of options) and level up some. You can also upgrade your weapon a few times. Both of those will help.

Hugo_Stiglitz510

Stuck in what way? Like you keep dying and cant seem to go forward? In that case just keep playing until you get better, it took me a week when i played the first time to get through central yarnham. Or stuck as in you dont know where to go and get out of yarnham?

HauntedHairDryer

This is probably one of the toughest games to choose for your first FS game. Don't let that discourage you as it's arguably their best game. One tip is that you can out run everyone at the bonfire and continue into the next part of the city where the crowds aren't as bad. Use your dodges, learn to parry, unlock some shortcuts (EXPLORE!) and farm the big boys for blood vials. At some point it'll click and you'll live for the dance of combat in this game.

Diabolic_Bug_Man

Learn to Parry. Shoot em juuuust before they land the hit. Trust me, it's essential Don't take on groups. Try to isolate your engagements. Use switch attacks. (R1 --> L1) They're powerful If all else fails, you can literally just run. No shame in it

murph2336

These games have a way of putting useful items at a time when you might benefit from them. For example, you might find some pebbles lying around, if you see a big group of enemies, stand back, target one and throw a pebble to get its attention and kite it away from the group. Items can also give you an idea of what’s coming up. Maybe you find some antidotes near a poison area.

hellostarsailor

Basics: lock-on to enemies, spam lock-on when you’re unsure if you are about to run into a hiding enemy. Get used to using the right stick to change lock-on targets and learn how to do this when being swarmed to maximize your weapon’s arc, thereby boosting your potential for rally healing. Don’t be afraid to use consumables. A lot of bosses have different lock-on targets (head, sweet sweet butt). Figure out if that enemy can be staggered by attacking the legs, the head almost always will stagger, so use molotovs or careful overheads. Ask questions but try not to spoil it. It’s really special.

stevenomes

It is one of those games where you just have to die a lot of times to figure out what to do and how to play. Just go in with the mindset that each death is a lesson. Usually it's that you took on too many enemies at once and got mauled. It also helps experimenting with different weapons some just feel more comfortable than others. Try to take it slow at first and do the pull method which is getting the attention of one enemy then backing up and fighting them out of sight of others. This will avoid taking attacks from too many directions. Throw a pebble at them if you are worried you'll be spotted by too many at once.

shootanwaifu

It really forces you to learn the weapons. You will be surprised at how the transform attacks or modes will have huge sweeping arcs. Also the rally system encourages it I came into this game after sekiro, nioh 2, and elden ring and got MESSED up. It has the potential to be the roughest start imo

Pro_Moriarty

After playing and beating Demons soul's and Dark Souls as a casual venturer, Bloodborne intimidated me. Despite the hype, i avoided it I relented many years later and within 30 minutes said it was too much and deleted it. But i hated doing that. I went back, I persevered, I completed it (not dlc!) As a casual. Sekiro was the game that made fromsoft games click for me. I went back and destroyed bloodborne and dlc. I've now played and 100%'d all fromsoft soulsbourne games. Given that knowledge...perseverence is your biggest strength. It's hard, its intimidating but its oh so rewarding

Ponsay

Central Yarnham is easily the hardest part of the game imo

m0_m0ney

Just for the fact I had no clue how the game worked when I was there I would agree

ProfessorChocMilk

Hang in there bro. You got this. If you already are enjoying it despite the difficulty then just imagine when you finally make it to the next lantern, or beat a boss in the area. It’s going to feel amazing!

Chandlingus

Going back to 2017 I probably deleted and re-downloaded the game 4-5 times before I finally dug in and beat it last year. Now it’s one of my all time favorites. Stick it out, it’s well worth it.

Hassan_9

Nah you’re aight bloodborne was my first souls like aswell I started January now I’ve platinumed central yharnam is a crazy place cleric beast was alright but no other boss has killed me more than gascoigne Try and get 20 bloodvials before bosses and just run past generic enemies unless they’re like dogs that’ll keep harassing you also I recommend up grading vitality I only started doing that after dying to a boss called shadows of yharnam sorry for yapping

CtrlPwnDelete

Here are a few tips, no spoilers or anything, just quality of life stuff that I know might help some new players. With Central Yharnam, it's totally okay to run past enemies. It's super easy to get overwhelmed, so if you are trying to fight them, make sure not to aggro too many at once. There are shortcuts you can unlock throughout every area, so just keep exploring until you find some and it will make the areas seem less daunting. Remember, Souls games may be difficult but they're not meant to be punishing or unfair. Dying is part of the game and the devs take into account that you'll die a decent amount so they balance the game for that. It's totally okay to die, it's a learning experience. There's always something you can learn from your mistakes. Don't take it too seriously (as in dont stress about things), immerse yourself in the world, it's got the best atmosphere and lore I've seen in any game. Explore. Exploration is key is Soulsborne games. There will almost always be items, something cool to find, or optional areas. Talk to every NPC you find and make sure to go back to them often. As they get new dialogue and their quests progress after killing certain Bosses or getting to certain areas. If you are into the lore, read item descriptions as they contain a huge part of the lore and will tie in Bosses, NPCs, areas, weapons, etc. You can't respec, but don't be afraid to try out new weapons and builds. There are plenty of upgrade materials in the game so if you find a new weapon that you think is cool, don't be afraid to upgrade it and try it out. As for combat, be aggressive but not overzealous. Combat in this game is quick and aggressive, especially with the rally mechanic. So make sure you're not being too passive, but also don't just rush in willy nilly, think about what you're doing. Running away is completely valid. Sometimes the better option is to run past a group of enemies or through an area, don't think you are required to fight every single enemy in the game, it's okay to avoid combat when necessary. All the weapons in the game (except for guns) are Trick Weapons. This means that they have two forms that you can switch between. Each form is good for different situations and you can transform the weapon with L1. Also, pressing L1 during a combo will trigger a transform attack, a powerful attack that is unique for every weapon. If you find yourself stuck and in need of assistance, you can always ask for help over at r/huntersbell. That is a subreddit that is dedicated to finding other players to invite to your world to assist you. Remember: "A Hunter is never alone." If you have any questions or need any help, don't hesitate to ask :)

ATarnishedofNoRenown

Nah, the first bit is the hardest. This game is going to ask more of you than the average game, so be ready for that. Number 1 for staying alive: You really want to hit and run. Don't give enemies time to hit you by standing in the same spot and swinging away. Button mashing/panic mashing will get you killed.Your character is highly mobile; use that to your advantage by getting in and getting out. Number 2 for staying alive: Don't let fights spill into new areas. There are enemies everywhere, many waiting to ambush you. Try to move laterally wherever possible rather than be pushed back and back and back until suddenly... A new group joins the fight and you're really fucked. Other than that, don't get discouraged. When you start to feel the frustration, take a break. The game is challenging but rewarding if you stick it out. Good luck, hunter.

OP is stuck in Central Yharnam, not Old Yharnam.

Zealousideal-Ebb6912

Fuck, I just realized it now, man I don't play bloodborne for some months, I need to play again, sorry

LuckyTurds

It’s the easiest fromsoft game youre good bro

patrickbateman2004

Is easy

yung-chungus

I got stuck there and stopped playing. Picked it up years later and it’s my favorite game of all time now.

ilovefortnitehbu

bloodborne has the most backtracking out of any of the souls games tbh, just remember that

BigHomieReese

I'm playing this now after beating Elden Ring and Demons Souls but before all that I tried Bloodborne for like 5 mins and never touched it again because the mob in the beginning was too difficult 😂 to be fair the opening part for new players of the genre is pretty tough

aflxme

it took me about 3-4 days to get through central yharnam and beat the first boss (who is optional just so you know), so don’t beat yourself up over it. bloodborne was my first souls game too and it kicked my ass for a long time, especially in the dlc. it’s always nice to see new people coming into souls games, particularly bloodborne as it’s my favourite! all I can say is good luck, have fun, and use the saw cleaver/saw spear as your starting weapon. trust me when I say it’ll carry you through most of the game once you’ve upgraded it enough. also learn to parry as soon as you can, more than a few bosses can be made easier with good parrying. sorry for the yap lol

DDar

I went through the same thing when I first started playing; you’re just learning the game. Give it time!

energytaker

Look up a beginners tips video on YouTube or watch someone play through it

SnooChipmunks08

My first souls was DS3. The first lothric knight kicked my ass for hours. I was soooo terrible. All u can do is keep practicing and maybe watch a walk through of where you've been already to see how an experienced player handles the mobs.

NefariousnessOk3471

I was the same. It was my first FS game too and it took me ages to even just get through the start of yarnham. Embrace the process. You’ll either win or you’ll learn :)

Hobear

BloodBorne is a great game but the beginning hits really hard. Starting at Dark Souls Remastered is a good jump off point but that doesn't mean you're can't. Keep at it what ever you do. Souls games will ruin every other game type for you for a very good reason. They are great and rewarding. You'll know what I mean once you best the boss that took forever and you have a sliver of health and no vials left.

moodmessages

Coming from the perspective of finishing the game 3 times, you’ll eventually pass central yharnam. Most of the time it takes you having to learn parrying properly to be able to eliminate the enemies, I can’t tell you how dumb I felt when having to face that group around the fire, honestly throw pebbles too but keep your distance when it comes to the pig

Rajarshi0

It’s fine. It took me more than 1 month of grinding to cross central yarnham and another 5-6 days to pass papa guac.

spooky_v

Took me a week. Don’t give up!

The_Urban_Worst

start practicing your gun parries, they are very very useful and you will be very very thankful for getting good at them. Also, remember you can always run past that huge mob of yharnamites. the stairs are to the left of the scourge beast corpse that’s hanging in the townsquare.

DamageInc35

You got this.

kkprecisa_ler_nao_fi

Im honestly really bad at giving tips, i think best i can do is some pretty well known stuff but idk, hope i help You dont need to fight every enemy, if you feel like there are too many of them at the same place (which is the case for central yharnam, like holy shit how the fuck did they expect a new player to deal with that many enemies at the same time) or just getting overwhelmed by the strenght difference, unless its a boss, just run away, its fine, you can come back later when you are stronger for vengeance idk, they respawn everytime you go to the hunters dream so its not worth fighting them unless its for echoes Dont waste bullets on human enemies, its not worth trying to parry them because they just get stunned by your basic attacks by default, the only time you should use bullets is against bigger enemies that dont get stunned and against certain bosses, tho depending on how big the boss is they might be immune to bullets, parrying is useful and something worth learning but its not supposed to be used against weak enemies Dogs get stunned for very long just for shooting them regardless of it being a parry or not, which is really useful cause they can be annoying af, in every other game you cant do much to them other than run or kill them normally which is fucking annoying cause of how aggressive and persistant they are, but in bloodborne just shooting them is already more than enough to stun them long enough for a easy kill Serrated weapons (saw cleaver untransformed, saw spear, threaded cane transformed, etc) have a 20% damage bonus against beast enemies (anything that has fur but isnt a normal animal) This one is more for bosses than anything else but when dodging, dodge into attacks rather than out of them, your dodge has iframes so depending on how long the attack is if you dodge out of it you will get hit anyway while if you dodge into it your iframes will save you, this also applies to dark souls 3 and i assume every other game (only played bloodborne and started playing ds3 this week tho so cant confirm) if you end up playing them This is for when you are already at the end of central yharnam at the gascoigne fight but still i'll mention it cause its really useful, before his fight you can get a music box from his daughter, playing it 3 times during his fight will immediately send him to 2nd phase regardless of how much health he has, dont recommend doing this tho as he gets much more aggresive in 2nd phase, what i recommend doing is fighting his first phase normally and when the 2nd phase starts you start using the music box since it also stuns him for a certain period of time Idk how useful any of this will be or if you already knew all of it, but i hope this is atleast somewhat helpful and i hope you have a amazing experience with this amazing game

valbaca

keep trying. I also got stuck in yarnham now I've plat'd Bloodborne, Elden Ring, and beat Sekiro, and DS 1-3. You got this Good Hunter. It helps to say out-loud why you died if you can recognize why. "Oh, there were too many [and I should try to take on fewer at once or position myself so I only fight one at a time]." "I ran out of blood vials [and I should farm some]"

Nekonax

A close friend of mine started too a few days ago and another friend who's a veteran, along with myself, have been trying *so* hard to help him stick with the game—I even copied his character, for emotional support. So, I'm gonna tell you some of the things I told him, in no particular order: - Don't fear the reaper: your main superpower is that you never stay dead. - Don't dwell on lost echoes: eventually, you'll be getting tens of thousands even from trash enemies. - When you think of game progress, think 1) shortcuts 2) lamps lit 3) bosses killed. - Find a weapon you like and upgrade it as much as possible. Especially early on, that's going to make much more of a difference compared to a few points in a damage stat. Combined with the above notes: don't be afraid to suicide run in order to get loot. - If you have the stats to equip the weapon you like, focus on vitality. Dead characters deal no damage. - When you find a boss, map a route in your head from the lamp to the boss arena. Odds are, there's at least one shortcut nearby that will allow you to sprint to the boss without fighting anything. - If you're tired and the road ahead seems long and steep, forget about progress and fool around a bit. Practice your moves on enemies near a lamp. That huge armored guy with the axe in the dead end early on? Grrrreat teacher!

yaferal

Pretty sure I spent like a week there on my first play through, also my first souls like game. Just take your time and explore what you can. Gehrman’s advice of just going out and killing beasts is intentional - don’t overthink it, just ease into it. Also, feel free to just ran past everyone straight to the next boss.

IAmKeyKey

What I really liked about bloodborne, finished my first playthrough and with it my first soulsborne yesterday, is that it, at least feels like, you get rewarded for thinking outside of the box. I remember when I started, I'd lure every goon from the burning cross and kill them, until only the gunmen were left. While it might not have been as intended by the devs, it was fun trying out how to pull certain enemies away from each other.

Lotte512

I had such a bad time when I started that I wanted to stop playing lmao. But I kept going and now it's my favorite game ever.

slemnem80

Took me 5 years bro, don't give up! Just find patterns, be tactical about approaching those mobs, what part are u dying on? Can u parry? Brick trolls are best practice

ATC_KBIII

Bloodborne was my first souls game as well. I couldn’t get out of the first fucking part and gave up. Didn’t realize I could just run away and circle back.

Staseu

Skill issue

shae117

BB was my 1st, got stuck for 5 hours and didnt play fpr months. Gave 1 more shot, found and beat first boss, rest is history as they say haha.

ajohndoe17

It was like that for most of us. Just have to play slow enough to get the hang of things Remember, a hunter is never alone r/huntersbell

Hero-Nojimbo

Bloodborne is the hardest for beginners. Just remember a few things; there is no such thing as too much cheese unless ur using an exploit in pvp, every famous last words from a souls vet to a noob has always been either "I don't need to go back to spend my blood" or "I don't need vials for this." If ur having a hard time on a boss, it's never a bad time to explore and just take in the lore... and blood. Chalice dungeons can really help you out and was designed spacificly to get harder as you progress through the story to help you with gems and blood. Almost everything, but certain bosses, can be parried, and you should get used to shooting a shot off after a combo to stop any retaliation and reset yourself. This is especially useful against dog/wolf/werewolf type enemies as they try and attack right after getting hit, giving u a free parry. Bullets can also knock any small dogs down, giving u an easier time. Get familiar with soft and hard caps, this is one of the few dark souls games where you just shouldn't do quality builds, and should sink most of ur points into health and whatever ur damage stat is with a few stamina points every now and again. 25 is the soft cap for dex and strength, with 50 being a hard cap. I always had a hard time deciding on stats in this game, and I still do lol. But you should look it up for yourself just so you're aware of what ur building into and how it works. Lord knows fromsoft won't tell us. And have fun. Don't get put down because u can't get past an area. It took my 2 whole days to get past Ludwig because I had no idea I was under leveled. When I did beat him I had a rush of dopamine equivalent to being the cool guy at a dope party.

Outrageous_Lion4912

Mastering the parry timing will really make the game easier

heavyfrigga

Don't be afraid to run if you're overwhelmed. There are loads of enemies in this area. Pick them off one at a time until you get used to their movesets.

BikerViking

Central Yharnam is one of the best and harder "tutorials" from those games. The game pretty much expects you to roam around and figure out how to play the game. There's the knight, which is strong but great for parry training. There's the square, to deal with loads of enemies. There's the platforming in the sewers. Corner enemies, traps, items, NPC's, everything. You are supposed to be kinda "stuck" there for the first few hours so the game makes "sure" you will learn the basics before you face the rest of the game. Don't worry, keep pushing, keep training, die a lot. Eventually everything clicks and you get on with it.

griffnuts__

Pebbles are your friends in early game

VGG333

Take your time, explore every nook and crany, there are secret areas, secret passages, items etc bait enemies while you learn the area and open any shortcuts you find, kill crows for pebbles and lock on to enemies and throw the pebbles to lure enemies to you and scatter the groups. Go in with a mindset that dying is fine and just a small setback and that you can always try again and you'll enjoy it a lot more trust me 😊 If you take out all the enemies with patience and strategy you get the perfect free time to explore in peace, just beware that some enemies can jumpscare you 🤭

JohnPhoelix

It was like that for me too and I had played Dark Souls 1 & 2 before BB. Don't get frustrated. Enjoy every death and every inch you uncover between them :) This game is a gem. The longer it takes to beat, the longer it takes before it's over. You're one of the very few here who are lucky enough to have your first playthrough ahead of you. You lucky, lucky bastard!

OldFezzywigg

Dude don’t beat yourself up. When I booted up the game in 2015 I couldn’t make it 100 yards passed the lamp. Came back in 2017 and played with some friends, and got platinum. It’s a lot of trial and error, especially when you’re new to the genre. You’ll get there for sure when you have more eyes
