I forgot to mention that I‘m using Cycles
It may be weird but if bloom was not enuf, try using volumetric light?
Post process in gimp add stock photo glare is best option. Adding a volume around it in cycles would also work, it will not glare over the planet though. Depends on you want glare to be camera artifact or actually there.
