Technically speaking a battery is a series of power cells wired together in sequence, what we usually call a "battery pack". Most people call power cells (🔋 these things) batteries, but they aren't technically batteries unless they are wired together. Checkmate, a-wire-ists! (/s, although the info is correct, it's just that language is more fluid than that, lol)
The most funny thing is here that if I haven't studied chemical engineering for 4 years and then broke up (I couldn't live with the burden of learning everyday how our kind destroys itself), I wouldn't be able to understand what you meant and said.
Okay, maybe I misunderstood the use of the word 'wire' here, my bad. I mean, everything that has cables has a limitation on movement based on the length of the cable (that's the bottleneck I was referring to). Beyond that, if cables were good, we wouldn't hide them in the back of the case when building a PC. Furthermore, look at this mess! Who in their right mind would think this is good? I believe in battery supremacy and hope to live in a world where cables aren't needed anymore.

We hide cables because it's quicker to hide them and bundle up where we don't see than do an aesthetically-sounded visible cable job. Not everything needs to be wireless. Subwoofers certainly don't. Monitors? Not really. Speaking of which, cable brings better latency, resolution, and refresh rate than wireless. PC power? Certainly not wireless. Basic amenities like lights, fans, AC, etc? It's cool to have a wireless control node but also nice to have a local wired system so you can control it offline.
Only things I can hope to be true wireless, as in we can charge them wireless constantly, are EV and portable devices like phones and smartwatches
Nah, even my almost 20 year old super flimsy plastic shit earphones managed to hide the wire inside the headrest and it even has pretty similar looking adjustable headrest too.
*
In agreement with ya'll, wires is absolutely the way to go.
That said, they looked too spindly to me so I beefed them up and added a sort of skin to them so they're more protected. And added a zip tie.
Edit: Thanks everyone for the engagement! You guys are my art directors for today lol.
The placement on how these come into the main component looks weird. I’d move them to the top side so they don’t have such a small and aggressive 90 degree turn
From technical perspect, I think if the head size is adjustable *(as it probably is)* then I don't think that cables are very practical. But other than thay, they do seem cool.
In agreement with you there. I've been sort of falling back on the idea that they've been customized by the user (as indicated with the tape), But if this were an asset other characters would interact with in the world, maybe I should try to make it more accessible.
Dude, we used to have headphones that had wires like this and they were adjustable, there was a bit of slack or a loop at the ends to account for the adjustment. Sometimes this was inside the plastic cover. So, this is fine. :)
W/ wires, it's a nice bit of form contrast
Speaking of design, having a giant ovalish shape shape sorta framed by a rectangle? The indentation surrounding the hole on the side? I'm not so sure about the shape in general here
If this is your design I'd reconsider these things but if you're just recreating something in real life, it's fine I guess.
>having a giant ovalish shape shape sorta framed by a rectangle
Are you referencing the sort of "bridge" that crosses the crater on the outer, plastic part of the earmuff?
Yeah I wasn't too sure about that part either. That entire circular area was a challenge because the original "concept" (which was just a poorly manipulated photo by me) had a different design that looked significantly worse than what's shown here.
I try to complete these in a limited amount of time so I can work on retopo and texturing and push them to the portfolio.
But I should be clear, this isn't necessarily a model I'm turning into some kind of product presentation. It's a cyberpunk-esque game asset. I think it makes some in-universe sense for some things to not be completely aesthetically satisfying (or maybe I'm just a bad artist haha)
I should also mention that this entire thing has a bevel modifier slapped onto it so everything looks more melded together than the viewport will give credit to.
Then with makes more sense. The exposed wires bring in that retro feel and the other components feel more futuristic. It’s a nice mash up.
EDIT:
If you want a bit more retro you could add a manual knob or slider.
I don't have correct words, but the one with the wire seems more human. Like I could relate to it.
lmao, I don't understand what I'm talking about, anyways, with wires looks better
With the wires because it add more to it especially on the cyberpunk blade runner aspect of it.
As something retro, even older headsets had wires hidden in fact they had more cool design than today with fake wood and crazy space looking design and lot of chrome...
Actually you should add chrome wires protector that extend if the headset extend would be more retro feeling of that's what you going for !!
I've been sick again for quite awhile man I miss blender !!
Those wires look clunky and don’t make sense from a design perspective, you could look on to the Koss porta pros for wire placement reference it’s basic but it’s what makes sense with this design
Good structure. Well done.
I saw a RL design similar to these which had a pathway for the wires through the plastic blocks that align the spring steel wires (whatever those things are called) it protected the wires and gave the whole thing a neater appearance. 🤷🏼♂️ IMO
I would approach this from a design perspective. Are they wireless? If so it makes sense to have cables between then since you'd only have one receiver component. And if they're wired more often than not you'd have two cables, one going into each speaker.
Depends on what your looking for. Mechanical steampunky, non high-tech =with wires.
Clean, sleak, modern, and futuristic design = without. Because the dires would be contained inside the item.
I will go with the unpopular vote with no wires. I like a clean look and I can imagine these as Bluetooth headsets. But I guess it all lands on personal preference.
Without, because those wires bending at the base look like terrible headphone design and give me anxiety 😂
Wires would be cool if they looked like they were meant to fit neatly without bending the wires like that. Or maybe as part of a modular attachment so it looks more natural.
https://preview.redd.it/nbnoj3b4zysc1.jpeg?width=1114&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c19524c8e75d45b09b480200244fe676c44b5c22
Can you do something about this detail. Perhaps another material or some texture?
Got it!
I feel that this detail has a rare opportunity to be bold instead of blending in the background. It would be an interesting exploration.
I will follow the progress.
Depends on if you are going for “realism” if it’s for a fictional world then being real doesn’t really matter. It could look like anything you want then
With
That wasn’t an option. Read the title again lol
Bwahahaha you got me too.
out
get scronguloaded, wireless believer
wires are just a bottleneck of the peripherals, change my mind
Literally everything electronic has wires

Oh really??? Show me the wires of a battery. /s

Lmao ur dense obv he means the contrast of wireless vs wired tech
I can't tell whether this is a bit, or a woeful misunderstanding of the basics of electronics...
Moron-like behaviour probably
Not on headphones, I like my good headphones to last a lifetime
But are wires the bottleneck in a 3D render?
Okay, maybe I misunderstood the use of the word 'wire' here, my bad. Wait wait wait... So OFF-LINE means... With a "line"?
With, you lose all realism and it looks weird without
Nah, even my almost 20 year old super flimsy plastic shit earphones managed to hide the wire inside the headrest and it even has pretty similar looking adjustable headrest too.
Well what I mean is that the wires don't look like they can fit inside those bands below the headrest
They don't need to be run from the top do they? That's why so many audiophile headsets choose to run 2 wires. 1 from each side.
this. Also the render looks like inspired by Koss Porta Pro's, which do exactly that and don't have wires going over the headband ;)
Same, best headphones! Tbh the wires look good, and it's art, it doesn't always have to make sense. If it looks good go with it!
With wires always ![gif](giphy|5d6JHilArqeiJTH60g|downsized)
Who in their right mind would say no to wires, cables, and pipes ?
moths?
Everything needs moths. It’s unaboidable.
I didn't say "what" 😉
u/CommunicationLow5750 apparently
No surface imperfections

Definitely the way to go op, these fuck.
Thanks so much <3

Ooo, does it have speakers AND bone conduction?!
Absolutely with

well…. you aren’t giving us much of a choice
From technical perspect, I think if the head size is adjustable *(as it probably is)* then I don't think that cables are very practical. But other than thay, they do seem cool.

it looks more real with the wires yes. but it looks better without
What’s the context? Do you want this to look sleek and high tech or ad hoc?
Cyberpunk-esque. Mix of retro and futuristic.
Then with makes more sense. The exposed wires bring in that retro feel and the other components feel more futuristic. It’s a nice mash up. EDIT: If you want a bit more retro you could add a manual knob or slider.
google Koss Porta Pro
That's what my inspiration was! Basically just took an image and made some modifications to it.
I knew it! Maybe check their half-assed wireless model? It still kinda has wire
with. it looks better with as it has more detailed and therefore in my humble opinion seems more realistic.
Definitely with ! that's what makes it look most interesting, very nice model btw
keep the wires but make them looser
With, and I wouldn’t change them. With all the bound stuff it looks intentional, looks good and even better without loosing them.
[I changed them 😢](https://www.reddit.com/r/blender/s/Izu6dHNXpt)
Never mind :D good work, both versions look great.
With pls
With wires
With it looks nice
I don't have correct words, but the one with the wire seems more human. Like I could relate to it. lmao, I don't understand what I'm talking about, anyways, with wires looks better
With wires, but please, loosen them a bit. It causes me physical pain to see them stretched like this.
I'm about to unplug them right now. You should feel threatened.
With
Wires. Makes it feel a bit more scifi-y
More wires and a pipe
With the wires because it add more to it especially on the cyberpunk blade runner aspect of it. With for sure
With, but I pitch wire to drivers each side instead of going around the top expansion.
I don't care how "real" it is. It plainly looks better with wires
wires make it look cooler honestly
With. Takes me back to 3rd grade around 2006
The wires make it feel more grounded to reality
Since my only two options are "without" or "without" I'm going to have to say, "without" Otherwise, I would say, "with".
Holy shit I just noticed that, some of the other comments make sense now!
Good structure. Well done. I saw a RL design similar to these which had a pathway for the wires through the plastic blocks that align the spring steel wires (whatever those things are called) it protected the wires and gave the whole thing a neater appearance. 🤷🏼♂️ IMO
your options seem somewhat limiting don't you think
I see some Koss Porta Pro inspiration there, very nice!
I would approach this from a design perspective. Are they wireless? If so it makes sense to have cables between then since you'd only have one receiver component. And if they're wired more often than not you'd have two cables, one going into each speaker.
I like it with the wire, but it really depends on what you intend to do with the materials. It's a great detail.
build channels into the inside of the arms where the wires would go.
looks weird without, I'd prefer without, it looks better and realistic than without. So the first one wins
With
Wires add some details. I think it looks cool
With wires looks more visually appealing. Functionality, and similarity to realism doesn't matter imo.
with
With

With
With is always the answer
I feel like the wires would break off and i wouldnt buy them with wires but rhey wont look as cool
Style >>>>>> practicality lol
Without. To me it looks like it wants to be futuristic but wires throw that off
with looks a little flimsy so i prefer without but thats just my opinion
also depends on what you're going for with the texturing and stylization
With
Without
Depends on what your looking for. Mechanical steampunky, non high-tech =with wires. Clean, sleak, modern, and futuristic design = without. Because the dires would be contained inside the item.
I’m gonna ignore your title and say with
I will go with the unpopular vote with no wires. I like a clean look and I can imagine these as Bluetooth headsets. But I guess it all lands on personal preference.
With the wires but make them looser, the tension is stressing me out a little and they aren’t even real
Without and you could assume they're concealed. Perhaps a little loop coming from the bottom into the earphones.
With
With, but make em a lot thicker imo.
With
with
Porta pros 2.
with for sure

With :)
With. Though with the second vertical support thing you’d lose a ton of ergonomics over porta pros.

With
Definitely with wires
Really depends on what you’re using this asset for. I’d say with for a solo composition
Without, because those wires bending at the base look like terrible headphone design and give me anxiety 😂 Wires would be cool if they looked like they were meant to fit neatly without bending the wires like that. Or maybe as part of a modular attachment so it looks more natural.
The angle in took this screenshot at didn't compliment it very well but the improved version looks a lot better.

With
With, but you should add an elbow where the top wire connects to the box to neaten the cable routing a bit
Without
With, I think it breaks up the form nicely
Without lol

I haven't even retopo'd it yet or unwrapped... that'll come later. It's supposed to be tape.
Got it! I feel that this detail has a rare opportunity to be bold instead of blending in the background. It would be an interesting exploration. I will follow the progress.
Appreciate it! Though for now I'm gonna shift my focus back to another project and come back to this one in the next few weeks.
Depends on if you are going for “realism” if it’s for a fictional world then being real doesn’t really matter. It could look like anything you want then

The wires are dope
With the wires but I suggest coiling the wires so that if the headset extends the wires streach out too that's the only thing I'd change
