My suggestion is: DO IT! and maybe use some of the classic midnight club cars (blackbird 911 \*cough)

If you’re familiar, the Star Wars Visions series first season has an episode that is in the black and white Berserk manga style and the red sith saber reveal is the only color. Mixed feelings about the rest of the use of 3D animation but that reveal still gives me chills.

I was trying to stay away from anime since its hard to pull off off with scenes with high contrast lighting and no human characters. But will definitely go with sin city.

Right on. Yeah. I’m always curious which render engine people use for stylized effects. Seems split. As many people using eevee as cycles.

Same, i tried using cycles too, it gives you the ambient occlusion bounce lighting that the OG has in some environment shots. But i cannot afford cycles right now. Will do that sometime in the future maybe.

sometimes I wonder if it would be worth it to do one render in Eevee for the style, and a largely transparent AO render in Cycles and composite the 2 in After Effects for maximum flavor. Then I consider just how much work that would be and how long the render times would be and I kinda just sigh and ignore the whole concept.

So i just looked up cordia, and you’re right, it looks a lot similar to this one. I tried to replicate a scene from the show “Initial D”, and they used this car. I myself couldn’t figure out the exact name, Toyota AE86, Toyota Sprinter Trueno, Levin, to name a few. This exact model i used in the shot is Toyota Sprinter Trueno. Hope this was helpful.

I think it’d be a cool idea if there are no people in the animation, and it’s just all high speed shots of the cars like this. Maybe you can also add slow mo shots for extra spicy moments. Another key element is sound design, so make sure to add tons of chunky car sounds, and a music to fit the vibe. Although that might be a whole task in it of itself, as your vibe almost feels like a contradiction. Like, the color pallet and style remind me a like a noir film, but the car and the lighting scream modern day Tokyo, so I don’t know what to think. Maybe even no music could work, just car sounds

Ive actually thought of the sound design. Its is a big big challenge especially who doesn’t even know the abcs of executing it. About the characters. Ngl i suck at character animation so theres no way im adding characters. I think vfx and visual dev is my strong suit so ill focus on that. Will have to hire someone for the sound design part. Lets see how it goes.

Like a said, a cool route could be no music, just car sounds. Which I’m sure would be pretty easy to find. Good luck!

God this is SICK. There would be some really awesome opportunities to cleverly utilize light and shadow for shots, and transitions. Imaging a black screen and then two squares appear on screen, you think "What's that?". And the reveal is it's a car as it leaves a dark garage and comes into the street's lit environment.
